Brutual weekend. Tip my hat to the Angels but they I don't think they're a better team than the Sox or that they would scare me in the playoffs. Not taking anything away from the Angels though. Anyway it will be good to get Ortiz back because right now everyone stinks but Youk and Pedroia. Ellsbury really needs to start hitting soon.
I went to the PawSox game today in 95 degree heat, got there an hour early to get good seats and find Ortiz isn't playing. A crappy way to find out.
Thankfully the M's are around to beat up on when your down. Great game by Dice-K the other night and Clay didn't do to bad last night. Once again Masterson steps in and just 2.2 innings of great ball. Got to keep it going this weekend against the Yanks, this a big series.
These series are only huge for the home team in a way. So many games remaining - the pressure and nerves are about holding your own at home. Same as when they play at the Stadium, thats when I am most nervous for the outcome.
Enjoyed the Beckett vs. Joba match up...pitch for pitch there. Farny nearly did all he could to blow it.....thanks once again to Mo and his 5 outs talent!
Just popping in to say hi. My house was hit by lightning on Wednesday night during a terrible storm and I've been without a phone, cable TV, internet and power in half the house (if that even makes sense). Good news is everyone is fine and so is the house, I'm slowly getting things back to normal here so I'm hoping to be back online sometimes this week (I'm on dial up right now and it took almost 5 minutes to get to posting here remember those days?).
Wondering where you have been but good to hear everything is okay. Some severe thunderstorms came through last week and one produced a tornado which is very rare here. Dial-up how I hate it, I had to deal with that up until last year.
Glad to hear your good Finkle, while the power was out on Fri and Sat. you didn't miss a darn thing except Manny being extra Manny signaling the start of the trade deadline, like every year.
Wow, that bites....most important is you and your families safety. the W last night should have also helped feel like things are going back to normal.
Thanks for the kind words and thoughts its much appreciate. I got to see all 3 games this weekend and I'm hoping to get cable back by Friday and internet by tonight or tomorrow so then I will share my thoughts about the team and Manny.
Yikes last night was brutal. The Diceman is cruising and then in an instant he goes back to old Dice-K, walking guys, and just giving guys balls to crush. Manny not running out that double-play, just play for 1 more half year man and then you can go play for the Royals if you want.
I do wonder how much this Manny Ramirez crap is causing the team to go into a funk. Honestly I'm just really tired of him. Not sure if I like these rumors for Bay and also giving up prospects. I guess we need to stay tuned until something happens.
Yeah, I feel like the last few years these "Manny unhappy" stories have been a big tease each and everytime. Yet, I still have my fingers crossed to someday hear the news of Manny no longer with the B on his cap.
There was never really a point in the last few years that I thought that the Sox would trade Manny. I do now, simply because he's never been this outspoken and really he's acting like a baby and I do think the players and FO are tired of the 'Manny being Manny' act. I do think both him and Boras are in for a wake up call if they really think any team is going to give Manny a 4 year deal for 20 million a year. If anything him acting like this hurts him more than helping.
If it happens Bay will bring a pretty good glove to the outfield but wont live up to Manny's bat. He is capable of stealing bases. So yea you will take a hit in your offense a bit.
Manny is one of the best hitters in baseball and it is almost impossible to replace him (unless you get Arod, Pujols, Hanley, Wright etc). So no Bay's bat won't equal Manny's but sometimes teams get better when they get rid of a problem. Not saying the Sox will be better or worse without Manny. But I do think now's the time for him to leave. I won't comment on the deal until I know it's going down for sure and who the Sox have to give up prospect wise.
The Marlins have reached a tentative agreement to acquire Manny Ramirez from Boston as part of a three-team deal that will send Jeremy Hermida and three Florida prospects to Pittsburgh, an American League source said Wednesday night. http://palmbeach.qwapi.com/site?t=Qz.yCLugn5i.U1T3aEdGYA Official??? The Marlins will get Ramirez for Hermida, right-hander Ryan Tucker and two other prospects, with those four players being flipped to Pittsburgh for outfielder Jason Bay and left-hander John Grabow. The Red Sox will send the Marlins enough cash to cover the remainder of Ramirez contract, as well as an unnamed prospect.
I don't see Manny being traded at the deadline. Just a feeling I have but the guy has no reason to be unhappy and act like a baby he has won two World Series in the past four years and has had the luxury of being in an offense that is stacked which gave him a security blanket if he ever did struggle. Boston has also been very passive of his "Manny being Manny" crap because the guy produced and would give us a laugh from time to time, if he thinks he can go somewhere else and pull the same crap without being torn apart by local media he really is nuts.
Nothing is official yet. Different people are reporting different things in terms of who's getting/giving prospects etc.
me too....so I am not buying it until its officially announced...but Palm Beach Post is pushing it as such. I cant confirm it anywhere else, and even SC just wrapped with it being aggressively discussed but not official.
I really do not like this trade if it were to go down I say keep Manny for the rest of the season and then figure something out.

Manny to Dodgers, Bay to Sox, and 4 prospects to Pitt seems to be the deadline deal! The Dodgers swooped in at Thursday's trade deadline and acquired one of the greatest sluggers of this generation, acquiring Manny Ramirez from the Red Sox as part of a three-way deal in which Boston acquired outfielder Jason Bay from the Pittsburgh Pirates, sources told CBSSports.com's Scott Miller. In return for Bay, sources say, Pittsburgh will receive right-handed pitcher Craig Hansen and outfielder Brandon Moss from the Red Sox. Also, the Dodgers will send third baseman Andy LaRoche and right-handed pitcher Bryan Morris to the Pirates. Hansen was Boston's first-round pick in the 2005 draft and Morris was the Dodgers' first-round pick in the 2006 draft. ---------------------- All in all....Sox have a better defense, better base runner....and solid hitter (not Manny solid, but still solid)!!
I don't think you'll find too many Red Sox fans sheding a tear that Hansen found his way out of town. Thank goodness I don't have to watch that piece of garbage make his way out of the bullpen again.
While I love not seeing Manny in the B hat.....I am in no way saying the Sox arent a better overall club with Bay. I will be curious to see and read comments from the Sox players, etc.
I'm ok with this trade. Manny quit on this team and clearly needed to go. I really couldn't care less about Hansen, but really didn't want to lose Moss. I've also been a fan of Bay long before his name surfaced in trade speculations with the Sox.
