Since we don't have any team goals to really forward to I started looking at Landry's season. He is currently leading the NFL rookie WRs in receptions. Landry is in position to end the season in the mid 80's as far as catches go. I believe 88 is top three NFL all time receptions (Reggie bush). anyways long story short, Landry is really on the verge of having an all time rookie receiving season.
He's our best wr. He's all heart and I'm glad he's here. Drop the over paid douchenozzles in front of him, draft another wide receiver and go from there.
landry is awesome, he is a guy that will go out and get those tough to catch passes, and he plays with fire and heart.
Yep. Love me some Landry. I might get his jersey. I hate buying jerseys, though, with how often players move teams. Last new one I got was Ronnie Brown, and he was traded following that season...
Yup. Just promote Matthews to be the X receiver. Wallace stays the flanker, and Landry stays in the slot. I'd keep Gibson too, for the 4th WR spot, although that stupid penalty today brought about a vocal reaction out of me. Draft a guy like in the 3rd or 4th and let him compete with Matt Hazel for the 5th spot.
Considering the are tied with 71 catches each and beckham has 23 catches last two weeks... Well not a stretch on your part... Good catch though noticing that beckham was right there with Landry...
I don't think he gets enough snaps to really get a good read on him this season. He looked pretty good last year when he took over for Gibson.
Was Terry Kirby any good? He went to the high school I use to go and remember seeing him and his brother's jersey hanging from the gym.
As I recall terry Kirby was a good back out of the backfield... Was a so so runner... Got hurt early his second season... Was never the same...
I thought Landry was going to be great from day one. A 'draft guru' I'm acquainted with said he wouldn't be able to get separation from NFL corners based upon his combine numbers. This is why combine numbers are not gospel when it comes to predicting who will and will not be successful in the NFL. Anyone can make a database of rookies and click 'sort by ascending' in the 40 time column. That doesn't make anyone an expert. I mean, my goodness... did anyone watch Jarvis Landry play football? That guy had great football player written all over him. All you had to do was watch him play. Wow. It just goes to show... when it comes to football, there are no experts. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHipzGL4dwM
I'd really like to see the Dolphins add a big-bodied WR who will go up and catch the football over defenders. I think that is what they are really missing right now. That is part of why they struggle in the red zone. I'd go get a guy like DeVante Parker to take Hartline's spot. As for the OT, I was a big Landry fan since he came out and was stoked we drafted him. He was my favorite of all the draft picks this year. He really has been one of the bright spots this season along with Jenkins, James, and Tannehill's development.
Terry Kirby was a very solid pass catching RB for us. I remember Don Shula caught a lot of flack for drafting him in the 3rd round because there were rumors that he was blind in one eye and apparently they had no prior knowledge of this before we drafted him. It didn't matter. He was really good for us during his time here. Even when Dan Marino was asked who had the softest hands on the team he immediately said Keith Byars and Terry Kirby. They caught EVERYTHING thrown their way.
Agreed Sports. I'm leaning towards our first 2 picks being MLB (Benardrick McKinney) in the first and WR again in the 2nd (Maybe Devin Funchess if he slides to our 2nd).
Personally I'd draft another WR early. See if Hartline/Gibson have any trade value. I'd take a damn 5th. Hell a 7th is better than releasing. Anyway I don't think the answer to our WR problem is on the roster. We need a Kelvin Benjamin type who has size. Its hard because I feel we have other pressing needs. I guess we will see how free agency shakes out.
I love Landry's intensity and passion. He brings it every game. Even as most of the players around him look lifeless, he's still doing what he can to win. I want more players like that, whether they play OL, DL, TE, WR, S, CB or LB.
Id love to see them play Landry outside to be honest. What he lacks in break away speed, he makes up in the ability to create separation and will go up and get the ball. He was doing most of his damage yesterday against Darrelle Revis, whom is pretty much playing in pro bowl form. Landry is a stud.
Love Landry, but its starting to look like we need another guy opposite of him. Mike Wallace I think hangs around to see if third time is the charm, maybe we keep Fartline but I would love to see Rashad Green or Daquille Williams opposite Landry. Those are go and get it type of players that we'll need for our dink and dunk offense that we run lol.
I like Laundry a lot and think he is going to be a long term Dolphin(unlike a lot of our draft picks). In the upcoming draft I really hope the Dolphins go early and get a big physical receiver that can go up and get the ball, especially in the endzone. Someone similar to Mike Evans would be nice
What has Matthews done to warrant all this praise? He can barely crack the field and has been inconsistent, save for a few good quarters last year. I say you ride him out of town with Wallace under one arm, and Hartline under the other.
Yesterday looked like an uninspired, and unmotivated performance by a guy who looked like he couldn't care less, even though he was finally getting a chance to be involved. Matthews didn't look good at all, he either just had a bad game, or we're seeing why the staff hasn't put him on the field much.
Receptions are the completion % of WRs. They don't really tell the whole story. Having said that, I'd love to see what he can do when not asked to just run 3 yard routes an entire game.
We should trade him immediately...he's going to completely screw up our "bad boy that doesn't care" image.
The story with Landry has everything to do with his professionalism and attitude. Physically he isn't all that compelling. Basically good, but nothing great. There are probably about 100 WR prospects every season that match or better him physically. His one elite level skill was his great hands. I liked him in college but the reality is that there are guys like him every season who do nothing in the NFL. I was always rooting for him, both b/c I liked watching him play in college and then b/c he became a Dolphin, but realistically the odds were against him. Right after the draft I said that his ceiling was Hines Ward, but for him to reach that he's going to have to be one of those guys who works obsessively at his craft. Not a hard worker, those are a dime a dozen, an obsessive worker. Everything he does has to be focused on making him better. There was an early report (I think I heard it on the radio at the beginning of the season) from one of those guys who the NFL hires to help draft picks transition (I can't recall his name) that said that of all the players that guy had ever worked with, Landry was the most professional and driven he had ever met. I think he said that Landry was the only player who had done every single thing he suggested. That gave me some hope that Landry might be one of those that beats the odds. I don't expect he'll ever be a true #1, but I expect that he'll always be a guy you want on the team.
Love me some Jarvis Landry! They kid comes out to play every week. He's been a great pick for us. Other things. You ask me the guy that has to go is Gibson NOT Hartline. Are we forgetting that Hartline is coming of back to back 1,000 yard seasons? He has been productive for us since he was a rookie. I think we'd all like some YAC from him but he normally runs great routes and pretty good hands. Gibson has done nothing this year and last year when he was coming on ended up hurt. Matthews is another guy I don't understand the love for.
Landry has the mental attitude we should want out of all 53 players on the roster. This guy loves the game, and plays hard week in and week out. However, Wallace is vastly overpaid, as well as bum Hartline. Gibson is ok but has no trade value (high contract for a pedestrian player). If there was a way we could get rid of all 3, I would love it. We need Landry on the outside as he seems to be a 'playmaker' in the making. Try and get another WR that can run the whole route tree (and collect YAC yards), and that will only help RT and the offense more.
