Set up the WiiU last night. Guess I hadn't used my 3DS in a while, because it had to be set up for a Nintendo Network ID as well. I couldn't get spaces or underscores it seemed though on the 3DS, so I wound up with MrFrisch.
Call Nintendo, they can tell you how to back your ID and downloads up before shipping it off to be fixed.
Just swapped my WiiU's out, but need to charge the gamepad before setting up. Then I can call Nintendo to get my account transferred.
System software 5.1 is out. Headline features: Wii U to Wii U system transfer, eShop browsing with the Wiimote, Wii U pro controller, and classic controller.
Link, F-Zero, Animal Crossing characters coming as Mario Kart 8 DLC Also, Nintendo is apparently having a Nintendo Direct session on Friday to talk about Smash Bros 3DS, which was recently leaked onto the interwebs. Though now all the news stories about said Nintendo Direct have mysteriously been removed…
Smash 4 coming on November 21. 3DS version is already out. Looking forward to this even though I wasn't the biggest fan of Smash Bros Brawl.
Probably getting a WiiU for christmas for the family. Friends brought it over Friday and we have a blast playing mario kart.....great times.
Nice! Destiny has consumed most all of my gaming time currently, but hopefully between Borderlands 1.5 and Smash I'll make plenty of time for other stuff.
So I caved in and got a WiiU as my console of choice this gen. Walmart had it on their site and it comes with Super Mario 3D World and Nintendo Land, as well as a $50 gift card. I plan on picking up Smash and Mario Kart ASAP - but any other games or controllers that are worth getting? Excited to get my hands on this bad boy.
Yeah, pretty stoked for this and Star Fox. Anyone get the new Toad game that came out? Looks like a fun puzzle game.
Haven't played Captain Toad at all. I'm not into that genre. Didn't really get into Echochrome, can't really get into Captain Toad and his treasure tracking. Game looks great from an aesthetic viewpoint, though. Nintendo's visual style looks amazing. The release timeline they disclosed in the video is pretty interesting. So, Star Fox in 1H 2015 and Zelda U in 2H 2015? I can go for that. Additionally, someone has done an analysis of the Zelda video above and concluded that the game is either a sequel to Zelda 1, or does a lot of work to reference and honor it. The opening shot is very similar to the Zelda 1 promo artwork of Link kneeling on a cliff facing the sunset, for instance. The bottom half of the map layout looks a lot like Zelda 1's map layout, much in the way that Zelda 1's map layout was integrated into a corner of Zelda 2's overworld.
Related: it looks like the new release of the Gamecube controller is coming back in stock, and the GC-to-Wii-U adapter's stock is slowly being replenished. Why is this relevant? Because Smash and because virtual console games play better with the Gamecube controller. Pick up Zelda: The Wind Waker HD, too. That game has some of the best use of lighting I've ever seen.
I've read that the HD remake really did Wind Waker wonders - it was one of my favorite GC games, and in fact I actually replayed it this summer and beat it again in its entirety. It's a timeless classic. My favorite game on the GC followed by Mario Sunshine. Absolutely plan on snagging the GC adapter as soon as I can find one as well. They are impossible to find these days. Also hoping to grab Smash and Mario Kart while Best Buy has the B1G1 40% off deal. Has anyone tried to see if the Wiimote without Motion Plus works for Smash and MK8? Plan on getting some new ones and a Pro Controller eventually but it would be nice if these work on Smash and MK8 too. Edit: Also am dying to try Bayonetta 2, Wonderful 101, and Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze. Those look like really, really fun. Pikmin 3 will be another purchase if I find it cheap.
Bought Wii U today. Its in our house. Got Mario 3D world. Will get mario kart 8 and batman beyond gotham for it. Can't wait for Christmas!!!
Strongly consider Smash Bros. Fun for everyone. Bayonetta 2 is too mature for the kids but a great game. And the console is backwards compatible with the Wii, so it's a good chance to explore that library too.
This. Get that system hooked up to the internet and updated so when you and you're family can have fun as soon as they open it come Xmas.
Those are good points. Last year, Nintendo had service outages on Christmas because so many people were trying to update simultaneously.
SICK - Best Buy has buy 1 get 1 40% off for WiiU games this week. Mario Kart 8 is also on sale there for $51. May be a good time to snag those now if you can.
I'm actually going to try and swap out a copy of Smash Bros for Hyrule Warriors today after work. Not sure they'll let me because my online order receipt doesn't indicate I got it for 40% off, but I guess we'll see. If not, I'll have to get creative.
Good luck. Hyrule Warriors is supposed to be a lot of fun I have read as well. Basically Dynasty Warriors with a Zelda theme.
I haven't given much thought to the Wii U but now that Smash Brothers is out, I'm considering buying it just for that. Sounds like you guys are enjoying it. Are there enough other good games for this thing to pull the trigger?
Smash Bros, Bayonetta 2, Hyrule Warriors, Wind Waker HD, Super Mario 3D World, The Wonderful 101, Pikmin 3, Mario Kart 8, and backwards compatibility with the original Wii's library (Super Mario Galaxy, SMG2, Zelda Skyward Sword, Xenoblade Chronicles, etc etc).
got the Wii U for my kids today... I was surprised to see they even had any in my local Target... wifey sent me there for a polaroid camera for my daughter... that was on sale too.. they were sold out.. they had the Wii U's sitting in a cart by the electronics register... i was like... "dude, are these for sale?" Guy says.."no man, these are all sold.." I said "man, what the fuuuu"... he says, "wait, I got one here that's still available..." me "holy ****z..." There was a mom sitting there with her 6 year old boy looking at me like I was from another planet...
At the end of the day, if you like Nintendo games the Wii U is well worth it. I realize those are the games I enjoy the most, and much of the stuff being released on XB1 and PS4 is currently still being released on 360. This is truly a unique experience compared to the other consoles, which is what I want for the limited gaming time I have.
Nintendo's one big fail so far this Christmas is the poor availability of the Gamecube controller adapter for the Wii U. The thing is sold out everywhere and inflated to 10x its MSRP on eBay and Amazon. I managed to snag one from a small Gamestop online restock before they sold out again. It's silly that people have to hunt for this thing. It would have been best if the reissued Gamecube controller just had a USB plug that could insert directly into the Wii U, negating the need for an adapter. Or, include a USB-to-GC adapter in the box for the people who still have and use a Gamecube.
Seriously - the shortage absolutely shocks me. It's no secret people who buy Smash will want to use a real controller, at least a large number of them. We're 2 generations away from the GC as well - like you said there absolutely should be controllers (wireless) that work by being plugged into the usb adapter at the very least.
That's fine, Smash works great with it. My complaint is that if Nintendo is going to the trouble of re-releasing the GC controller, they can't allow supply constraints to prevent people from using it. Otherwise, why bother?
Pulled the trigger today. I had originally gone to Target to buy a PS4 when they went on sale for $340. Then spent all night trying to download the system update so I could play it. At one point it said it would take 28 hours. Internet reports all kinds of people having same issue after version 2.0. Called Sony, and only "fix" they cold give me was to hardwire it. Since that's impossible at my house without a **** show of ethernet cable all over the place I took it back. While taking it back they had one Wii U left on sale for $250. Not sure if that's a good price or not, but pulled the trigger and scooped up Super Smash. It also comes with the Mario game so looking forward to playing that too. After being bored to tears by Titanfall, Destiny, and Advanced Warfare I think the Wii U might give me just what I'm looking for. Fun games, and something I'll be able to get the kids involved with in a year or 2.
MSRP is $300, Target has been running a deal for $250 with Mario 3D World for a couple of days. You got a great price. If this thread is any indication, Nintendo is about to have a gigantic Christmas sales period…
