Anyone else here really concerned with Jarvis Landry? I really like what he's brought to this team and think he can be a great slot receiver for us for years but he's fumbled the ball 7 times already this season. Anyway we can hire the guy who fixed Tiki Barber?
I think he's only fumbled once at wr, it's always special teams. The answer then is to take him off those duties next year and we will
That is my one big concern with him, and I thought that when I watched his LSU tape. He needs to secure the ball better, and I hope that's a focus of his in the offseason. It's not something that happens often, but, he needs to address it. One inopportune fumble can change the outcome of a game, just like it almost did yesterday. One inopportune fumble can turn a play-maker into a goat.
Like Citizensnips noted, it's a special teams problem more than it is a receiver problem. I don't think you can take him off kicks, though. He's averaging 28 yards per reception and he's had basically no experience as a returner before this year. I think you expect him to get better over time with it.
It was an issue at WR when he was with LSU. The problem is how he carries the ball when he's running in the open field. It's just more apparent when he's returning kicks, but the issue seems to me to be always present.
Landry has taken some big hits in his rookie campaign. Its been a long time since I've seen a rookie with his skill set just bounce back up after that. He is trying so hard to do everything to the best of his abilities and it shows. He will solve the fumbling issue as well. No concern at all.
I would be concerned that the problems are consistently presenting themselves throughout the year. This isn't a thing where he fumbled a couple at the beginning but started to get better and now his fumble total for the year looks bad only because of the front part of the year when he was most new to it.
Landry seems very intense and emotional on the field so I`m a little baffled that ball security is not his number one priority, and if it is he certainly hasn`t mastered it yet. Moving forward I really like him and I`m sure he`ll put in whatever work is necessary to progress.
That's what you have to love about this guy. You know he wants to win and is willing to do everything in his power to win including working on holding on to the ball. I really like him as a kick returner, not sure about punt returner. It is nice to not have to pay another guy for those duties.
The majority of his fumbles have come fighting for an extra yard or two. I think when he learns to go down he will be fine. You live with a fumble here and there, but you want to eliminate the ones that come from high risk/low reward situations.
I am concerned, as much for the punishment, as I am about the fumbles. He is a big part of our offense. I would sooner see LaMichael James back there. I would like to preserve one of our better players from taking anymore hits than he has to, even though he is a TALENTED RETURNER.
I'd chalk it up to his being a rookie. Probably something he needs to work on a bit but not something I'm worried about in the long run. As folks have said, we can count on him to address the issue.
I think his role is going to evolve into an even bigger part on the offense going forward. As effective as he has been when he holds on to the ball, I don't really want our featured 100 reception wide out running back kicks.
