Like it or not philbins staying so we are all going to have to deal with it.
The question is wtf happended to our defence and how can it be fixed?Coyle need to go,draft, free agency, whats the answer?
Should we find a 3-4 coach or stick with 4-3?

Really hope they bring in Rex. Hate him with the jets, because he is a pain in the ***, but that defense would be fun to watch with the pieces we have.

Also 1st round needs to be a bad *** linebacker or TE Nick O'Leary if he is available.

We have needed a ball hawk in the secondary for a while now. Don't care if we get one in the draft or free agency, just go get one. Oline is gonna be priority again with our current state so D might not see as much attention as some might like.

It's not a 3-4 vs. 4-3 issue. It's a matter of the coaching staff not appropriately adjusting to their defensive linemen getting handled.

They need to self-scout their defensive tackle unit- Earl Mitchell has been inconsistent, Randy Starks hasn't had a very good season, and Jared Odrick is a bit of a one-trick pony who is I think rather doubtful to come back.

IDK but a 3-4 would benefit Dion Jordan and he can be used more there.

I think our D was a bit of a mirage this year.

When we were the #1 or #2 scoring D over the first 10 games, we faced 2 teams in the top 10 scoring offense on the year (Patriots - 1st, Packers - 2nd) but outside of that we faced the 15th, 16th, 18th x 2, 21st, 23rd, 31st, and 32nd ranked scoring offenses.

We've been exposed since then, obviously, but I think playing the Jaguars and the Raiders of the world over the early stretch of the season falsely inflated the D's stats.

For the first time in many years, most of us are talking about the D letting this team down game after game... I've been a proponent of change along the D for a couple of years. Coyle is useless, imo. Time to move on, but he also has one more year in his contract and Ross, as we all know, does not let folks out of contracts even if it means another subpar year in 2015....So accept the fact that we will once again be a 'close, but no cigar' team...

We need to draft Zach Thomas's replacement. Please dont wait 2 decades to draft one in the first round (like we did with the quarterback position). do it now.

Need to put DJ at OLB/DE hybrid like JT played and draft a stud LB. have the DE's and DT's. Could use another Safety and a CB.

Why do you think Odrick is doubtful to resign? I think him walking is the doubtful prospect. He hasn't had a great season, but I think his career has definitely warranted an extension. I'm just curious as to your plan on replacing him if you believe he really should or will walk.

    I think it's a talent issue honestly.

Coyle may not be as good as we had originally hoped but bringing in a new DC doesn't solve the obvious personnel issues that have been at the heart of our problems.

This defense needs help at DT, MLB and CB.

If you don't solve the real issues, the new DC will look the same as Coyle did this year.

Philbins staying is a good thing.
Tannehill is the Franchise QB. finally, we've got a serious GM in Hickey. the offense should be much sharper under Lazar next season. all we need to do is find a field goal kicker & a new defensive coordinator... Rex Ryan anyone?

    the Hickey shopping list:
    1) defensive coordinator
    2) pro-bowl potential pulling left guard
    3) stud nose tackle for the 3/4
    4) best available middle linebacker in draft or free-agency
    5) field goal kicker

resign most (Wheeler and Ellerbe both are likely gone) contracts of starters including Knowshon Moreno, if healthy

We certainly could upgrade our talent at those positions (although I do believe Koa is a serviceable mike) however when your newly signed safety has to point out obvious halftime adjustments to your d.c during the Jests game, that's a problem. Coyle had a bad year and could definitely be upgraded, regardless of the roster imo.

Misi was hurt all year, Jenkins has played hurt, Ellerbe played one half. Grimes is literally the only DB to not miss extended time.

Blaming Coyle is pretty weak imo.

1st. Yeah were stuck with Philbin so we've got to deal with that.
2nd. Not impressed with Coyle in the least. His defenses seem to be paper tigers and haven't been able to close out big games when it counts.
3rd. Starks play dropped dramatically this year. I think it's time for him to move on and save the money.
4th. We need help at DT and in the LB's. Earl Mitchel is no Paul Soliai but I didn't figure he would be. We have to get an impactful player at LB
5th. Dion Jordan needs to shed some of that damn weight they put on him and move to outside LB. He is a waste at DE and if remains there will be a huge bust if he's not already.

Misi hasn't played a 16 game season since 2010. While he has been decent at MLB, he is often injured or misses series of playing time. He also misses a lot of tackles. He is close to having a career season this year for tackles and TFLs, but LB is still a major need this offseason. Trusnik and Sheppard are not viable replacements. We still don't know if Tripp is going to develop and Wheeler and Ellerbe both are likely gone after the season ends.

Every team has injuries, some teams just have good coaches to compensate for these problems, we don't. The game plan coming out in the Jets game, to not put 8 or 9 in the box, even after they were running almost every play is laughably ill prepared and a microcosm of our coaching decisions. We get out coached frequently, face it.
