    1. The development of Ryan Tannehill
    2. Continuity
    3. The players support Philbin
    4. We have won 8, going on 9 games with a whole new OL, many injuries, and a tough schedule.
    5. Harbaugh is a pipe dream and Rex is a good DC not a good HC, there is no realistic better option than Philbin right now.
    6. More Lazor
    7. More Hickey
    8. More progress, RT and the entire offenses progression can't be denied and will only get better over time. Assuming we beat the Jets again, our record has improved every year and this year that means even more considering our competition was tougher and our injuries made it tougher on ourselves.
    9. Position coaches have been upgrades as well as OC which was already brought up.
    10. Half time adjustments and points scored in the 2nd half.
    9.

I will say, I'll feel better if we can have a dominant win over the Jets who will be playing their hearts out for Rex. But this was a "big win" for the current team. Not for us fans, but for them. And this team often does not respond well after a big win. We will see.

On the field I think we've improved in pass D at the expense of run D.

    How about creating turnovers?

Did we create more turnovers? I'm pretty sure we surrendered the ball less this year, so the ratio should be more favorable.

There is another way of seeing that: Philbin let go of all that existing leadership and talent by choice, and some of those players still have not been replaced. Several of those players wanted to be here, and one could argue that several were (and still are) desperately needed.

Yardage alone can be deceiving. Are the passing yards allowed less because teams are better able to run, so are not as often forced to pass?

Do NOT assume that we are going to beat the JEST. Get the hate up NOW. Those people are going to come out breathing fire because they'll be trying to save Rexie's job.

Even reporter's are struggling to justify retaining Philbin. Most of the positive's are all directly attributed to Lazor and his development of Tannehill and getting more points per game from this offense...

I don't think there is any saving Rex's job and Idzik should be fired as well. That said, Rex is a coaching and prepping for another HC job (Falcons???), so I expect a game similar to what we saw last time and also what they did against the pats.

Coach on the hotseat for this one should be Coyles. There should be no excuses this game if his defense is getting ran over.

No denying that. A lot of us were miffed about those moves and with good reason bc guys like Richard Marshall, Nannee, Ellerbe, Wheeler, Martin, Moreno etc have not been good replacements.

How do you factor those things into grading Philbin as a coach though? I think it'd be an interesting discussion.

If Woody or Ross had any balls...they would make this lame nothing game a spectacle. Every paper from the NY Post to the PB Post should be plastered with " Do or Die! Losing Coach Gets Fired!"

This nothing game should be a Head Coach death match! THIS would be the highest rated game of the week by a mile. And this would be remembered throughout NFL Eternity.

Probably because things are inching in the right direction and because we cannot get anyone better to HC

Everyone here assumes we can get one of Harbaugh, Cowher, Malzahn, etc. Reality probably is Lazor or Philbin.

    Not missing Vontae,Marshall,Dansby,Long,Burnett one bit.

They were dropped for very good reasons. Not replaced ? I'll take Grimes,Wallace,Ellerbe(Misi),Albert,Wheeler(Jenkins)... Thanks. We could still use Bush and Fasano, I'll give you that. Those guys are class acts. Still I'd go with Moreno/Sims.

Aside from those two, Philbin was taking out the trash. Anyone who misses those losers, who did us nothing but embarrassment, needs some sense smacked into them !

Incognito would have been gone earlier too if Ireland would have been capable of replacing him.

Here is why I dont really understand why Ross came out after this game and said Philbin will be back. What happens if the Jets come here and just run the ball all over us...we make a ton of mistakes and they beat us. What kind of an uproar do you think you will get from an already frustrated fan base? what kind of impression do you take with you into the off season? You just leave yourself open you HUGE criticism and uproar with knowing that everyone is coming back

I totally agree. That would be 4 losses out of the 5 games. Games we needed and wanted to win. Where then would you or could you talk about progress. Timing was terrible. And Ross would have us believe that he would have still made the announcement if we had lost to the Vikings. Head scratcher.

Im just speculating but my guess is both Ross and Marino and others advising Ross like Tannehill, Those advising Ross saw positive results from Tannehill, theres no denying statistically he's having the best year of his career, even though he didnt fair well against defenses that are actually good but thats another topic.

Marino and others advising Ross probably told him that it be in the best interest for Tannehill to give the current staff another year, and if they dont make the playoffs next year, then you may cut him. if Harbaugh was really available I dont think this would be the case, but any other coach available you have no idea what Tannehill will do in a new system thatis unproven to succeed.

I agree, but the timing stinks. I can just imagine the uproar if the Jets beat us. This forum will explode. Especially with Ross pushing the "heading in the right direction " agenda.

Yep I dont think its Ross liking Philbin more so than he doesnt want to hinder Tannehill's progress/development by bringing a whole new system... I want Philbin gone just as much as anyone and Im not high on Tannehill either... So dont confuse me into thinking im defending Ross... Just guessing what the thought process was when Ross made the decision.

I agree that a consistent system for Tannehill was a big part of the decision, but I believe a consistent quality offensive system is very important for a team. The flexibility of the Patriots offense is built upon a number of players having deep knowledge of the system. It is a big reason they are able to attack the weakness of their opponent.

I imagine members of Philbin's family can probably come up with a reason to retain Philbin as this teams HC, but I really don't think true Dolphin fans can give one legitimate reason he should remain the coach of this team.

In fact I could give you far more reasons to fire Philbin and hire Rex Ryan. The most important reason being that Ryan is a far superior head coach when compared to Philbin.

I'll give Lazer credit for Ryan progressing this year but I wouldn't turn down the chance to go after Harbaugh just because Lazeor had a good year with Ryan. If Harbaugh can turn bust Alex Smith into a decent passer, think of what he can do with Ryan.

That Philbin will be fired next year I guess? At this rate, probably by Week 8 if we're lucky.

The fact this thread still exists is a surprise to me. After last weeks game, and I looked at things differently. The only rational argument I could think of was continuity for Tannehill. However, today, yet again shows why continuity, at this rate, with this guy(Philbin) leading the team, is clearly not a good thing.
