http://overthecap.com/calculator/miami-dolphins/ June 1 cut:Fields(he is earning to much for havin such a bad year for his Standards),Ellerbe(wasn´t the Player we expcted),Wheeler) cut also:Finnegan,Starks,Hartline... After cuttin these players i have 29,356,823$ cap room.. Remember we can look to restructure Wake or Wallace so we could easily get more 5Million more in Capspace
Just keep in mind thats also 5 players you have to replace. Even though those guys have been below expectations at least 4 of them (except Ellerbe) have been valuable contributors and will need starters to be drafted or signed to replace them. Thats really not a lot of space if youre planning on doing that via FA.
If we sign Lupati for 6 years 49.000.000$ with 20.000.000$ from That Guaranteed we have still about 21.000.000$ in Cap Space.
i would some Players and draft some..Just look at Dallas they have finally a great oline and Romo is being Fantastic
I'm surprised that as it stands today we are over the projected cap this coming year. I thought we had some space.
You guys who keep advocating for Wheeler being cut realize that we gain almost no cap space by doing so, right?
If I'm understanding the June 1 cuts correctly, we still are basically stuck with him. Ireland was terrible
Personally, I'd rather give a big contract to Iupati as a UFA than to Pouncey as a re-sign. If it was an either/or thing.
Cutting Wheeler to save $200k would be incredibly stupid. Even if he does not start, it would be worth having him as a reserve more than saving a measly $200k.
In a post June 1 cut, the dead money would be cut between two years. Half in 2015 and half in 2016. We'd wind up saving $2.3M or something like that this year. I forget the exact numbers off the top of my head, on my phone at the moment.
Those guys are overpaid. With that money we can get players that are actually worth that much or break bank for 2 or 3 really good players.
Also Matt Moore leaving in free agency saves money. That guy the highest paid back up QB in the league. And other guys that won't be resigned by the team will create more cap.
Each team has the option to designate 2 players as June 1st cuts in March. If Ellerbe and Wheeler are designated according to OTC we would gain $11 450 000 in cap room, but would take a bigger hit of dead money the following offseason (one that you might be trying to fit in a new deal for Tannehill). I got the team down to $30,708,823 in cap room with my cuts (not sure if OTC counts the $8 million in rollover we have coming or not). We could get even nuttier if we were willing to pull the trigger on 2 players people would call me nuts to move on from (one due to age whose due to fall off a cliff at anytime and the other that I'm not sure he can regain his prior form and can get away with going cheaper at his position). That would get us to $45,046,823, but it would be ballsy and cause endless debate with those 2 that I shall not name.
U talking about Wake and Grimes???? I think we will be fine in Cap we grossly overpaid for Ellerbe and Wheeler... I think Mike Wallace would restructure he wants to win and if he can help withrestructuring he will
I remember we had SOOO much cap space two years ago, and now we're pretty much projected (for now) to be over the cap, with a carryover, and we still haven't resigned Tanny. The only real way out of this is to have rookies and draft picks start producing.
since he is not under contract for next year, the "savings" are already calculated, so we save nothing
Are you suggesting that he simply accept a big pay cut? Because with as many years left on his contract, and the way its structured, I can't see another way that would be possible. I definately don't see Wallace simply saying "sure, pay me a lot less"
Why would Wallace do this? I think he doesn't. Maybe if we made the playoffs and RT could throw him a long ball he would do it, but just to do it without some sort of future benefit mixed in...I think he doesn't.
Guys that won't be re-signed do not create more cap space since they aren't factored in to begin with. They'll also need to replace them which cuts into the available cap space we have, so even if they sign a cheaper back-up QB than Moore they're essentially not saving money relative to the cap space they have, but only saving money relative to the position.
You're right. I still want Moore gone ASAP. Ideally, I'd like to draft a long term backup QB in the 4th or 5th rounds, but thats a bit of a gamble. Signing someone who knows that their days as a starter are over is a good move as long as they aren't expensive. Every dollar wasted on the backup QB is a dollar you can't spend somewhere else.
Keep in mind, restructuring usually doesn't mean a pay cut. It means putting the cap burden off until future years, which I highly doubt they'll want to do when they'll need to re-sign Tannehill soon. I also think they'd just as soon get out of the Wallace contract after 2015.
Wake and Pouncey. Wake would be great if we were already a playoff caliber team. Were not and there is still value for him, but athletic freaks like him fade fast and I don't buy that lack of wear and tear argument. Pouncey I'm just wondering if he's plain worth the money at this point. I've always thought we've overrated him around here and wondered if we couldn't do about the same for cheaper. Someone like Brian De La Puente for the short term whose 30 but has had several strong seasons in a row. Or see if we can't get Stefen Wisniewski out of Oakland if he wants out of there (better $$ spent). All depends on whether you trust Hickey to get max value for them and then draft well with those picks and whether you think Pouncey bounces back and finally starts playing to his talent level. Would give the team $45 million in cap room + extra picks. Could even stash some of that cap for the eventual Tannehill extension. As for Wallace nothing is changing there. Your not getting away with asking a 10 TD guy to take a pay cut and you really don't want that contract pushed back further.
Much as I dislike Jerrah, you have to give it to him...he has drafted well enough that his OL is one of, if not the best in the league... That is exactly what Ireland has done to us...now we HAVE to spend in FA while waiting for our younger guys to blossom (if they do)... It'll take 2-3 years to 'fix' this roster and get us back to being able to draft BPA instead of having to look at need at every draft slot...
Just a heads up, I don't believe Over the Cap is counting the 8 million Miami is going to rollover from 2013 in their calculations.
This sounds more in line w/ what I was remembering. I don't ever remember reading anything about us being over the cap next year.
You're right. Before they release anyone, they should have 9-10 million to work with. That can get up to 30 mil or so really easily by getting rid of just a few players who aren't going to be starting on offense or defense next year. Pouncey's number will almost certainly go down when he's extended too. The team is in no way in cap trouble next year, the just won't be able to go hog wild bringing in UFAs. I am fundamentally opposed to pushing dead money into 2016 by doing "June 1st cuts" for this reason. We'll need to have that cap space for RT17's much bigger cap number, plus larger salaries for players like Lamar Miller and Oliver Vernon.
I don't expect/think that Miller will be a huge number; I don't think he's that hard to replace. Vernon is valuable, but again I don't think it will be a huge number. Relatively.
Aren't they both signed through next year? Am I reading this wrong? http://www.sportscity.com/nfl/salaries/miami-dolphins-salaries/
They're both signed through 2015 yes. I was earlier referring to the fact that we'll need space for them in 2016.
