Unreal. You'd think Wallace would be aware he has the highest cap hit of any wide receiver in the league, and would choose his actions accordingly. I wonder if he also willingly and voluntarily surrendered whatever pay he was supposed to make for the second half?

As far as I'm concerned, and it's just my opinion... Wallace wants out. Especially now that he knows Philbin and company are back. I think he also knows, if he creates a disturbance like this, the way Philbin is, he'll get his wish.

the thought has crossed my mind. the offense just isn't suited for him. the problem is the dead money that would be owed, and who do we replace him with?

I guarantee you that if Wallace thought he would be losing any money by not going back on the field...he would have run over people to get his helmet back on. I doubt he had any second thoughts about cashing checks or checking his balance in his bank accounts

If that was indeed what transpired, I am very disappointed in him. My opinion on him had improved significantly this season by his effort and game fire. I know his limitations and him being significantly overpaid, but this season he was certainly an asset to the team and I was looking forward for next season with possibly additional help in the form of another good, athletic and big WR being added through the draft.

Hugely disappointed in him. Again, if Darlington's accounts be the truth.

@JeffDarlington: After Clay scored with 2:49 left in 1st half, Mike Wallace came off the field and told Joe Philbin he no longer wanted to play in the game.

@JeffDarlington: Wallace wasn’t “benched,” according to several sources. It wasn’t initially “coach’s decision.” Wallace told Philbin he didn’t want to play.

@JeffDarlington: Many Dolphins teammates were very displeased with Wallace’s actions today. Several tell me they felt like he abandoned them when needed.

He forced their hand to cut or trade him, knowingly or not. Unfortunatley there is no Jay Cutlaer for Mike Wllace and they'll be lucky if they get 2 dusty M&M's and a flat soda for him now.

Thanks for posting these. If that's the case, he might very well be my first cut this off season. So disappointing.

Edit: on 2nd thought, this really seems like another talented player that Philbin just can't handle. Seems like both the staff and Wallace are to blame for this situation... maybe I wouldn't be so quick to release him as we are pretty thin on WR talent as it is.

How is this a surprise, like even a little bit?

He's complained about targets his first ****ing game. He mailed 2013 in so badly his performance on the field was detrimental to the team. He's had bad work ethic, and shown no accountability.

As long as there is one person still fighting to win, you NEVER quit on your team. This isn't about pay or stats or awards. It's primal and it's a basic life tenet. You don't quit on your team. PERIOD

Mike Wallace quit on the team

    http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-s...ace-quit-on-dolphins-teammates-014515065.html

After finishing another playoff-free year with a loss to the lowly New York Jets, the Dolphins now have to deal with another issue from oft-upset Mike Wallace. The big-money wide receiver did not catch a pass in Sunday's 37-24 home loss and did not play in the second half. Wallace's absence was initially explained by coach Joe Philbin as a "coaching decision" but Jeff Darlington of the NFL Network later reported that Wallace committed arguably the worst sin in professional sports.

Mike Wallace is a hero. Today he secured a better draft pick for Miami while worsening the draft position of the Jets at the same time. He must be reading Dolphin message boards.

It's funny to hear fans who quit on the team weeks ago complain about Wallace allegedly quitting today. What's not funny is the way our offense tanked without Wallace.

You cant possibly equate some fans getting frustrated and giving up on this team making the playoffs to a professional athlete making millions and asking out of a game? I was very impressed with how hard Wallace worked this year...he lost me today

Wallace's production was exactly the same on the bench as it was on the field.

If you ask me, the only reason for Wallace's actions in conjunction with the team giving up against a 3-12 hated rival, at home to close out the season no less, is when they don't enjoy playing for their head coach and don't believe he possesses the ability to help them meet their collective expectations.

Let's see how this trickles down to next year's free agency period. If we don't land any significant players or if we have to pay out the wazoo for them, then that would further support my sentiment. Hell, perhaps this started last year when everyone was flabbergasted by how much we dished out for Ellerbe [$35 million], Wheeler [$26 million, 7th highest contract among all 4-3 OLB], Misi [$17 million, 10th highest among all 4-3 OLB], and the asinine $30 million to keep Hartline in Miami, making him the 19th highest paid WR despite not being among the game's 50 best receivers. 5.5M/yr to make Finnegan the 22nd highest paid corner was arguably another unnecessary overpayment. Ditto for the 4.0M/yr to make Matt Moore the 28th highest paid QB and the 2.75M/yr to make Shelley Smith the 10th highest paid right guard. Oh yeah, and the 60.0M to make Wallace the 4th highest paid WR. Plus we had Jake Long who didn't want to re-sign with Miami regardless of money.

With all these players coming to Miami [or staying here] to receive inflated contracts that pay them a tier higher than their worth [and then some], it's not surprising that we have a team that doesn't play hard for 60 minutes, doesn't play hard for 16 games, caves during the 4th quarter, and throws in the towel against Miami's rival to close out the season. This is the tone Philbin has set for this team since day 1 when he foolishly decided to use a power play to separate himself from his players to show everyone who the boss is, superficially forcing them to give him respect rather than f***ing EARNING IT. He sealed his fate when he dissolved the leadership council, ditched Brandon Marshall AFTER Brandon made it aware to the organization that he desperately wanted to get his life on track and was receiving help for it after learning of his disorder, ditched Vontae whom the entire league knows has become one of the best corners in the game, ditched Dansby who has subsequently been a leader for 2 teams, ditched Sean Smith who is currently PFF's 5th ranked corner, and ditched Reggie Bush who resumed his leadership role in Detroit. Many of these are outspoken players, and their collective represents 7 teams [Chicago, St Louis, Indy, KC, Detroit, Zona, and Cleveland], teams that we may now face a tougher time landing quality players from without overpaying, that is- if we can land them at all. Insult to injury, Philbin put this embarrassing display on HBO for the rest of the league to see. There's nothing good that will ever come from a Philbin led team after he drew a line in the sand separating coach from team in an emotionally detached kind of way. Get him the hell out of here and bring in a coach capable of attracting players looking for more than just a pay day, a coach whom most all of the roster will enjoy playing for and will do so until the final whistle.

This makes me wonder if Ireland didn't receive a fair shake and was set up to fail from the start. Perhaps he was tasked with making the best of a bad situation while handcuffed to a HC whom many FA's didn't want to play for, at least not the ones who cared more about winning than tapping the most out of their pay day. Even Brandon Fields became blah under Philbin. The f***ing punter. Too many players under Philbin have seemed content to just play for a paycheck.

Whatchyu talkin' bout? We plastered the scoreboard with 7 points in the second half. Granted all 7 came via a fluke 97 yard run to start the 3rd quarter, but still.....

I knew it. Darlington is very respected and very tight in the miami area. Dolphins particular. This is pretty stone cold that this guy is a diva and even his teammates were pissed. Tannehill probably one of them. How sad.

Gibson needs to go too. He's wallaces buddy obviously, to on record throw himself to the wolves with this coaching staff. Landry takes his Job and hes all bitter. Like the receiver and what he does. But he's replaceable.

We got ourselves a fun offseason boys, nail down the hatches!

Love chris McCain too. But him calling out fans leaving early was hilarious. I tweeted to him that I hope he also called out Wallace for walking out in his team after a 93 yard td drive. And taking the lead. He never responded. How perfect......

Tannehill's reaction is still to the same news though. Whether Wallace or Philbin made the initial call doesn't really matter, at least not for the explanation of Tannehill via Sick's comments.

Guessing here. Coach comes up to a beat up Tannehill after an awesome td pass and says "mike is pissed. Doesn't wanna continue playing"

Tannehill is pumped on adrenaline and is like "**** him then. Who cares?"

Body language and facial expressions were bluntly clear.
