Dumbo is not going to hire a guy that Ross could use to take his job in mid-season if things aren't going well (remember, he has autonomy on coaching hires, even if he's pressed by Ross to fire someone)... Ryan already has a contract with ESPN that likely bans him from leaving them unless it's a HC job. I know it's not official or announced, but you have to figure there's a contract there... Rex does not want to take a step down, at this time. He still feels he's HC material...I agree, but he needs a supporting cast that he never got in NY... He has ties to the staff that's in Hotlanta... Dumbo is already considered a 'meek' coach. Rex can't keep his mouth from causing a stir, particularly if his D is outplaying the O on the team he is DC... He can have just about ANY DC job he wants...where's the draw to Miami ?? Are we close to competing ?? No... Do we have some young special players in place ?? No... Do we have the personnel to play his style of D ?? No... Just no draw to Miami... Would he have a difficult time with the media and fans in SFL...yes...The 'High Five' bunch would get him riled up every time he spoke...and the fan base would have a tough time accepting him because of his ties the jests... I just don't see any reason he'd be coming here...
And Toto could come too... This isn't Madden, things don't work like that... Rex considers himself a HC. And if you believe all the media sources, he was offered a job here and turned it down because of wanting a HC job. Gamble, while a worthwhile guy, is going to be looking for a GM job, not a lateral move. Sure, in Ross' dreams, he's hired Belichek to come in to take Dumbo's place too... as Asst. HC... It just doesn't work that way in the NFL world...
Was my first thought as well. But, then I thought hmmm, but Atlanta has Matt Ryan, Julio Jones, and Roddy White. So, if he could rebuild that D, and upgrade their O-line, they'd be a very competitive team again.
Doug Marrone bails on Buffalo. I would think he'll get some strong attention from these organizations who need a HC.
Why? Marrone did a good job with the Bills considering what he had to work with. As a Noles fan, I'd argue that EJ Manuel was never anything special. Hell Thad Lewis did a better job. Kyle Orton off the street did too. Not his fault he was saddled with a bad QB forced on him by management. The Bills D remained the strength of the team throughout his tenure and they finished with a winning record. He did a better job with less in Buffalo than Philbin did here with more. Marrone absolutely could make the Jets better. He left because of disagreements with management and because the Bills have no 1st round pick this year(little hope of upgrading from EJ). So ya, Marrone is a good coach and we should be concerned that he could wind up as the Jets new HC.
I wonder when Coyle's contract expires? He's been here 3 years. Wouldn't that be about the typical length of an assistant coach's contract?
