Right, and a dynasty usually equals a Hall of Fame passer coupled with other strengths on the team, as well. But you likely aren't getting there without the HOF passer in this day and age. So if the original poster doesn't see a HOF quarterback in Tannehill, he's probably feeling like he has to give up his dream of having a Dolphins dynasty for at least the near future.

no I don't..I think a great qb can piss on a head coach..what wilson does is innately special, he can do it under any circumstances, his ascension was as predictable to me as luck.

heres a positive..ryan may be holding back a lot, I'm not sure how much, but if he won't take matters into his own hands then we don't know, maybe he will get fed up at some point and start utilizing his born athletic ability to play the position from a multiple perspective, because playing it the way you or his coaches any anyone else who is happy with him sitting in the pocket, aint really doing sh*& fr him or this team.

its gotten his o coordinator fired, and his head coach on the hot seat..time to change the game and play it my why, then maybe ill change my mind about his ceiling.

just so I know here, are you happy with ryan tannehill not running on his own at all?, maybe a half of rep per game, are you happy with 1 rollout a game considering he is lethal running and throwing to both sides?, are you happy with him rushing about 2 and a half times game out of the read option?, knowing what you know about his skill set and the results of games when he does run a lot more? if you are ok with that, then I take that as your ok with sitting at home for the playoffs, losing to the jets at home twice to end the season, and I say that because there is no other position in sports that can directly affect the outcome of the game then at qb, and if your leaving skill set on the sideline in loss then wtf are we doing here, why even play the game, so we can develop a qb for the future?..please..maybe next year he blows out his knee sitting in the same damn spot because defenders know exactly where he's gonna be..

this game is decided by a few plays, I know you know that, its game of inches, fractions, and most importantly emotion and imposing a will on your opponent..bavysitting a dual threat qb into a pocket one is crying for failure.

Haven't read the whole thread, but DJ, I did see Tannehill grow in escaping the pocket this year. Many games he did well, moved in the pocket, escaped, made plays. Some games he reverted, especially the games where multiple rushers collapsed on him at once, or even one rusher with a complete beeline (thx Dallas Thomas).

I expect him to continue getting better and don't see why pocket presence can't get better. Wilson is just a different animal with it and just has uncanny quickness.

alright, i feel confident I know the weakness and what to do to hide it and still try to win and get as far as possible...its time to settle in at the draft forum for the next 5 months.

senior bowl is in 3 weeks, combine will be right on top of us., then free agency, then draft....best part of my season.

Here's honestly how I see it DJ. 17 played all of one and a half seasons as a QB in college. im much more concerned that he learns the nuances of being and NFL QB. Reading defenses, throwing receivers open, learning Lazor offense. The physical part of him running? He was born with that. He could close his eyes and do that. But to truly be a great QB he cant use that yet. If he does, it's to easy to use that as a crutch. Once this offense becomes second nature for him, then he begin to be creative, use the God given abilities he has. Those are there. It's like a boxer trying to change from being a southpaw. He ties his left hand back and just punches with his right.

And if he would have taken the sack there instead of making the play it would have been chalked up as more evidence that our o-line isn't as good as Seattle's...

I hope for one thing, better protection will give him the headstart to engage the playmaking trait, cause after three years its dormant..inhibited..atrophied.

That gif, the offensive line actually gave Tannehill lanes to escape through, as opposed to three last half of the season where pocket simply around him, with no lanes to escape through.

Thats what I'm saying, I saw numerous times where when one rusher was after him, he escaped and made a play. But it's basically what you would expect of a QB (although improvement), but it's also something we haven't seen much. We also saw him curl up and die during a rush with multiple defenders and it sucks, not sure what u can expect from him there.

There were absolutely times when all lbs would drop into coverage and Ryan could take off for a first down, and that is what I think DJ is asking for. This is something even Brady, Flacco, etc. do.

    Yeah ok.

RW plays his game, week in and week out. 25 or so attempts, mostly off play action or with favorable down, distance and score. He hands off 30+ times per game religiously. He's pretty much never asked to go out and throw 40-50 times bc A its not his game and B he has a team that keeps him out of those predicaments.

RT is different. He's never had a back or backs who can keep him in the 20-25 attpts per game range. He's frequently asked to throw 35+ times, which at this point is not his game either. Vs Minnesota he had 47 attpts, 400 yds and that was just enough to keep his team in the game. RTs job description is much more difficult.

I guess details like that don't interest you.

He better turtle up during a jailbreak. He's not evading it (no one does with consistency) and trying is how TOs & QB injuries happen in that situation.

Points scored in five losses of the 7 losses before we were eliminated. Our defense was good enough, our offense didnt show up against the best defenses. And if you all want me to i can dissect these scores and let you know how the points were scored and ill bet you there was barely a drive worth a damn.

I already know on the top of my head how the KC and Lions points were setup and it was not credit to Tannehill at all.

The two losses that our offense and Tannehill showed up was Green Bay and Denver, the rest they ****ted the bed.

If we had our defense plus Marshawn Lynch we are in the playoffs.

There's not enough attention paid to our RB situation. Miller levels off after 15 or so carries when a balanced offense requires 30 run plays. With Thomas and Williams ineffective it falls on RT to make up for the difference and w/o Albert he had to do it behind a porous OL.

If Moreno was healthy he'd have filled the gap, Lynch can handle 18-20+ per game so RT would have been in his sweet spot, 28-35 att per game, and most importantly, defenses wouldn't be able to tee off on our struggling OL.

    Maybe next year...

If Marshawn Lynch would've had the number of carries on the year Lamar Miller had, he would've finished the year with 84 yards fewer than Miller.

Wilson threw more than double the number of passes with no play-action than off of play-action in 2014.

i don't need those details to know which qb has reached a certain level of play and which hasn't..isolation..I find it funny when folks criticize wilsons games or try to take away what he accomplishes or how much of what he does impacts his team and the game, tells me all I need to know.

If the sentence was intended to mean that most of Russell Wilson's passes come off of play-action, that's inaccurate. The passes he throws off of play-action are less than half in number of the ones he throws with no play-action.

Thats not what was intended, considering no QB has ever had most of his passes off play action I'm wondering how you ever thought that's what I meant.

To clarify, I meant most of his passes are play action, and/or in favorable/neutral down, distance, score situations. He's not stuck in obvious passing situations. The point being that RT is often in those obvious pass situations, he's typically asked to throw 30+ times a game, and that if Wilson were placed in those situations his numbers would fall appreciably, Imo.

Wilson actually had a greater percentage than Tannehill of his passes on the season come in passing situations. 27% of Wilson's passes happened on 2nd down and 11+ yards, or 3rd down and 6+ yards, whereas that figure was 22% for Tannehill. The difference for Wilson in that area, as I mentioned earlier in the thread, is that he's making a great deal more a contribution with his running ability in those situations. He's enabling his team to overcome that adversity (being in an obvious passing situation) with a skill that Tannehill doesn't have. Consequently opposing teams can defend Tannehill much more easily, and the Dolphins aren't as likely to overcome those situations and convert first downs.

tannehill has thrown the ball 410 times more than wilson. the thing is just look at how he performed in some games where he won.

    against the giants
    10-17 0td 2int 172 yds(seattle still won by 21a)
    against 49ers
    12-24 1td 1int 168 yards(seattle won by 10)
    against packers
    19-28 2td 0 int 191 yards(seattle won by 20)
    against oakland
    17-35 0td 0 int 179 yards(settle won by 6 and still scored 30 points)

anyone really think ryan tannehill could put those kind of performances up and win? you think wilson could put those kind of performances up in miami and win? anyone really think ryan tannehill in seattle couldn't match those performances?

ryan tannehill had one game where he attempted less than 30 passes 1(and that was 29)
russell wilson had 9 games with less than 30 passes

ryan tannehill had 4 games this year where he attempted 40 passes(49,43,47,47)
russell wilson has never attempted 40 passes in a game.......

its not as simple as wilson is so amazingly better than tannehill, its wilson is put in a much better situation than tannehill. wilson needs to put up 15 points a game, while throwing about 25 or so passes a game. while tannehill is asked to put it up 35 or so passes a game and put up apparently around 30 points a game to have any chance of success.

You wrote that lazor wasn't calling enough read options, which is just not true, and are now back tracking saying he needs to "stress" running more. Tannehill needs to do what his reads tell him to do. I agree that the roll out and bootleg seem under used in the pass game. Ryan is a vastly better at throwing than running. He has deceptive speed and fumbles a lot. Explain why he is a better option than any of our backs if he isn't unaccounted for? He isn't beating many one on one with his feet. If there is open green space he can take it quickly, and get up field fast, but that's about the extent of his running. What is it that he does that makes you think it's such a great strength that he should be a primary option?

And what is with this ridiculous straw man about me wanting to "protect" him by keeping him in the pocket? That was never an argument I made.

Wilson added 84 expected points in those four games, or 21 per game, whereas Tannehill averaged 4.4 per game in 2014. It's very improbable that Tannehill would've performed similarly in those Seahawks games.

I don't think Seattle's D would have delivered us to the playoffs this season. Our D was actually ranked higher than Seattle's up until the Broncos game. Put Trusnick, Jimmy Wilson and RJ Stanford on that Seattle D and see how good they are. Seattle's D wasn't even Seattle's D until Wagner came back. San Fran's D was doing very well without their probowl LB'ers but even they suffered after losing Borland, who's going to be an excellent player too.

And if you think Seattle's D doesn't give up big drives at the end of games then you don't pay enough attention to them, they have done it several times, two of which being the Dallas and St. Louis games this season. The difference is quite often Wilson will come right back for the win, and Wilson has actually closed out games when he has the ball and a one score lead. Our offense with Tannehill at the helm 0 for 9 when asked to close out a game when they have the ball and a one score lead, which would have to be one of the worst runs in the league by far and it might even be in the running for the worst of all time. Wilson and Luck have both closed out games, the bizarre thing is we seem to have way more opportunities than most teams. We are 0 for 9 but both Wilson and Luck have only been in that situation like 3 or 4 times each.

Just stop with the defensive ranking...we were ranked off of like, one or two games. Shutting out the Chargers really made our defense seen than it was. The defense was terrible. Please don't try to argue that Seattle had a worse defense based on some flawed statistics.

Yeah, I'll just trust your eyes on the matter. The same guys eyes that thinks Tannehill >> Wilson....

And those same rankings actually do have Seattle's D as number one D in the league this season. Same as last year. And they were ranked second the year before. I think I'll continue to trust them, I'll certainly trust them over the eye test.

see, why do you all continue to try and compare these two qbs, where do you all get off comparing a kid with an average career qbr without a playoff experience to a kid who has set the league on fire his first three years relative to any qb who has ever played the game, and won the Super Bowl, plus multiple championship games...just stop, its silly.
