Having a kid like Collins would be a big asset to our offensive line. Look at the value of Zach Martin to Dallas. Rookie All-pro selection, opening holes all over the field for Murray and protecting Romo pretty well. I hate to keep sinking 1st round picks into lineman, but at some point the problems with this offensive line have to be corrected. Tannehill cannot continue to get beaten year after year. He's a tough SOB but I have no interest in pushing his limits any further.

Also agree about Trai Turner. Surprised he fell all of the way to Carolina.

He played against the Jets. Ironically he's the second highest rated OL on the Miami Dolphins according to PFF.

Did he start? and how long was he in there?

I didn't watch the Jets game, or the Minny game. I quit watching after the NE embarrassment. I figured we were done after that and had better things to do then have my day ruined again.

I did read on here that Turner played SOME, but I was thinking I read if wasn't for long, or it was because of injury. Wrong?

Turner is the big wild card. Is he a Guard or LT? Is he going to work out or wash out? That being said, I don't think that we can go wrong with a player of the caliber of La'el Collins at RT or OG. We need OT depth and potentially starters and at OG we have Shelley Smith, that's it, with the potential exception of Billy Turner (imo a LT anyway). That's a recipe for disaster.

Fwiw he thinks as himself as a guard...I had him in some of my own mocks, I like the kid, I'm in, so I'm only looking for one guard..and I ain't going draft with that unless it's in the later rounds.

ps He's 6-5, isn't he? Plenty tall imo. You have me thinking about Collins at LT, I had him pegged at RT or OG. I became a fan of his last year after Phinsational pointed him out when iirc the discussion was Trai Turner. If this guy can play LT that would clinch it for me, we need James back at RT and a legitimate safety net at LT. Time to watch more film of him.

Billy Turner has size, athleticism, power and some of the best feet/movement skills I've seen at OT. He's a risk no doubt, but the feet are inescapable, atletically reminiscient of Lane Johnson and D'Brickashaw Ferguson. That doens;t mean that he works out, but how this kid isn't tried at LT is beyond me.

(On what position he anticipates playing: guard or tackle) – “I’ve been talked about playing both positions and I see myself playing wherever the team needs me to play. I can play on the left side, the right side, I can play guard, tackle or center so wherever they need me to play and wherever they want to plug me in is where I’ll be.”

(On if he has a preference where he plays) – “I played on the left side throughout college but in high school I played left side and right side, as well as center. And I played all three positions, so there’s definitely right now a little more comfortably on the left side but I got a chance to play right side at the Senior Bowl and I was working with a couple guys down at API in Arizona at all three positions on the left and the right side. Right now, I would say maybe the left side, but at the same time, I think I’m a good fit for the right side as well.”

(On when the last time he played guard) – “I’ve done it in practice a couple times just to give some younger guys some reps off. I got practice at guard at the Senior Bowl and from there, I’d probably say high school.”

I saw an interview of a scout while he was at D state after the scout was there taking a look and asking him some questions, point blank, asks what do you see yourself as?... Said guard but that he played tackle because they just didn't have anyone to do so..

I don't understand not playing him this year, just play him and just live with the mistakes especially considering the crap we put on there..

So fitzgerald may be moving on from AZ. Get him to Miami. Wallace, fitz, landry, clay, sims. Then work on oline and D.

He is 6'4 and a half. So usually gets listed as 6'5. That seems tall enough to me, especially with his having long arms, but it seems teams prefer their OTs to be 6'6 to 6'7 these days.
If we want all that, Collins fills the bill about as well as one could want. He's All-SEC as a LT, and he was All-SEC Honorable Mention at LG prior to that when he was a true sophomore. I'd be very happy to see us draft him. Re-sign Fox and Satele as backups. Roll with a line of Albert-Collins-Pouncey-Turner-James. That would be pretty darned solid. If Albert gets hurt, Collins moves out to LT and Shelley Smith steps in at LG.

As a Noles fan, I wouldnt draft Goldman that high. Hes a good player and important for the Noles to be successful, but I dont see a game changer in him at the next level. To draft a DT that high, he has to be a game changer IMO.

I went back and watched those. Hadn't when I replied previously. It looks to me like Lynch blocks as well as you could expect any college TE to block. He has good form and works hard to sustain it appears to me. He did have a couple of drops at the end against Nebraska, but he showed enough otherwise to indicate he has good, strong hands, and is capable of extending and plucking the ball outside the framework of his body. One catch along the right sideline it looked like he was interfered with, not called, and he still made the catch. He was covered by Jean-Baptiste on one pass down the left sideline, and was able to go up and make a nice catch against him. If I had any complaints it would be he does not have good speed and appears to be a bit of a plodder or lumbering runner. Since we did not get to see him at all last summer, he'll be like having an extra draft pick this year. I'd say he has a reasonably good chance of making the roster next year as the 3rd TE, and we do always carry 3 and usually have 3 active on game day.

Agreed on most, but I wouldn't call him a plodder. I just came across this while I'm looking for video of Lynch running at the combine- this is the kind of player that you want on your team:

    http://www.southcoasttoday.com/article/20140304/Sports/403040307

    Arthur Lynch, Georgia: 4.68, 4.72, 4.82

Well, I'm getting pissed off now because I can;t find Lynch's 40 yd dash video yet, but here's Jordan Tripp and that dude can move:

    The search continues: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGlQ3u4Ca-A

Can't find it. There's some decent video of Lynch in action here:

Again, not a plodder imo, just not a true NFL seam buster. My expectations remain high, he'll be a good all around TE.

I'm going to go back over the La'el Collins film, as I mentioned earlier I see him as a RT or OG. I hope that I'm wrong and you're right about him at LT, that would be a very nice bonus as to the Branden Albert uncertainty.

ps I watched some film of TE Maxx Williams from Minnesota, who declared for the draft. As a receiving TE and a seam buster i like him quite a bit. Great hands, heck of an athlete, he can move.

Ok, I watched some more film of Collins. Dude is a monster, in size and in how he can move people around. And although he moves well for a man of around 6-5 340 lbs, my concern would be that smaller and quicker NFL DE's might give him a problem. His lateral movement is pretty good for a man of his size, but I wouldn't call it compelling for a LT. It is darned good for a RT and great for a OG- I see him as a RT or OG in the NFL, and that's some pretty good diversity and insurance for an OL like ours which is starving for both. I'm not crazy about James at LT, but my best guess is that of the two I'd have James play LT in a pinch, not Collins. And in James we already have our starting RT, there's the rub as per Collins.

That being said, La'el Collins is a beast and a football player that I'd love to have in Miami. Put him at Guard, I'm fine with that. LT goes down? James to LT, Collins to RT. Or better yet imo, get Billy Turner back to LT and have it done with, train him there where he belongs.

As for Lynch, I said he was a bit of a plodder to me, not totally. :) Just that he does not look like a smooth runner to me compared to other recent TEs of his size. I still see more positives than negatives and barring injury I think he'll make the roster next year.

Collins would be a great pick for us, but personally I really want Danny Shelton. We need more muscle inside and I'm gonna use teams like the Ravens who consistently win in the trenches with guys like Ngata as my model. Were too old and soft inside, Shelton changes all of that. Collins would be a great addition on the other side of the ball in the trenches but I believe Shelton is the rarer talent and therefore has more value to us which is what it's all about. Value, not BPA whatever that is supposed to mean. How could you even compare say a Jameis Winston to a Danny Shelton in terms of BPA, obviously completely different players, that's why I'm starting to question this whole BPA idea in general. Like Ireland said its about matching talent with need and say what you want about him but none of his first round picks are busts, not even close.

Not sure the pricetag, but having him here would be fun to root for.
