Mortensen said Beck's struggles will not ``mean anything to Bill. We talked specifically about Beck and he always thinks it's dangerous to play a young quarterback, especially when he's not surrounded by enough talent.''

So do you guys think we have enough talent? Or would Bill consider it "Dangerous" to play Beck.

It's always dangerous to play a rookie QB. Always. Parcells is spot-on about this, and the people who think he'll go after someone like Matt Ryan because he wasn't around when Beck was drafted are nuts.

Talent on the offense will increase through free agency. We'll import a couple of receivers, maybe a running back. I'd be shocked if we didn't draft a tight end this year, and I mean as early as pick #32.

Like I said in another post, given Parcells history I have a feeling our QB's will be #1 Pennington, #2 Beck, #3 from the draft.
Pennington is a Parcell pick plus he's probably 1 of the free agents out there this year, and the QB list is very average at best.
Anyways this might be a good thing cause Pennington will probably last till week5 because of injury then Beck will take over permanently, not wishing bad on Pennington but history usually dictates the future.

If that tight end from USC is available, I'm all for it. But if not, take a corner.

We dont have enough talent to expect Beck to light it up but Parcells will have enough film on the guy to evaluate him himself.

He already said he won't be trading for a QB, and the Jets would not trade Pennington to us.

We all are aware of the numerous QB's that started too early in their careers and how it effected them longterm. Lets hope Beck doesnt fall on that list.

Dangerous, when there is something to play for, but at this point it's just more film on Beck and a chance for him to get experience on the field.

I will agree that the talent around him needs upgraded badly, especially a good TE. I'm fine with getting one at #32 if he grades out well (Davis? Rucker?) and Marty Booker needs to go. His cap hit is about 4 mil, and that money is better spent on Crayton, or Bryant Johnson from the Cards, or Berrian, or another WR.

I'm not thrilled about getting Penny from the Jets, as his arm is just too weak and it limits the offensive calls you can make. As the #2 QB, I'm ok with that.

"Experience on the field" is a meaningless phrase. All Beck will learn by being at QB is how a bad Bengals defense played him in the last game of the bad year for both teams. Beck will not magically transform into Dan Marino II in 2008 if he plays this last game.

Any additional film of Beck playing would show the same thing tape of the Steelers, Eagles, and Jets games showed: Beck getting blitzed, blitzed, and blitzed some more. And personally, if I looked at tape of those games, I would be paying far more attention to the OL and extra blockers than I would Beck.

beck has an uphill battle to win over parcells, everyone know he does'nt like small short qb's, he likes big strappling qb's

I just don't see Parcells simply giving away John Beck, Beck needs to provide some value for his selection, and to just give up on him after 4 games on a bad team just doesn't make much sense.

Put Beck in with our opening day roster, with Ronnie and our Oline all on the same page and Mauia with a year's experience and then see what he can do for us.

We give up on players to easily, how many #2 picks have we blown on one year wonder Qb's and ended up with -0- in return?

It is DANGEROUS because you can really mess up a player's mindset when they see themself struggle as bad as they do at the pro level. They could think "Wow, this level is just too tough for me".

Pretty much the Ryan Leaf story.

We can agree to disagree, Desides. An inexperienced QB can take a lot from his first games (actually you hope they keep learning for years). I dont care if he never faces that same Bengals defense again (and he won't of course), but I do want him asking questions:

"Why did I think that was a Cover 2 defense before the snap?"
"Did I know that Will LB was coming on the blitz?"
"Am I giving away the snap count by being too preditable?"
"Did I stare down Ginn, again?"

There is plenty a young QB can learn from the sidelines, but actually being in the game and making those snap decisions? Actually making the throws? Actually leading your team? Actually showing some toughness by taking some hits and getting back up?

Beck won't become Marino by playing the Bengals, but it could be a small step toward being a confident starting QB -and John has a lot of ground to cover, so why not get started now?

Pennington's arm is worse then Fiedlers was. I wouldn't touch Pennington with a 50 foot pole.

i think with Ronnie Brown we have enough talent because if u play action to him people are going to bit on it bad and then u send Ginn deep and that could be there all day IMO
