I was actually listing what I thought Foley's Criteria was. I made that list up of Foley's past hires. Figured that any coach coming in would've had to hit at least 3 of 5 but 4 of 5 was probably more likely. I like McElwain and had him #2 on my list only behind Hugh Freeze. That list was made up of more reasonable candidates.

There's a creepy pic from someone in the Denver media of Foley meeting with McElwain at his home.

As for the buyout there was a verbal agreement that If McElwain found a dream job it would be dropped. I wouldn't however be surprised if you see the Gators playing Colorado State in the future. Possibly even a home and home series.

"Jim McElwain's representatives and Colorado State have cleared up the issues surrounding his buyout, and McElwain has agreed to become the next head coach at Florida, sources told ESPN.com.

Barring any last-minute snags, Florida is expected to announce McElwain as the Gators' coach later Thursday."

Of all the realistic choices, I do like the hire. Time will tell, but for what we know now. I like the chance! I'm excited. Now just keep our dline and secondary coach on staff!

Why would you make this comment and the one prior? Why would you think he could not be at the top of his profession at Ole Miss? As good of a coach that he is..if he is also a good recruiter then he COULD win a CHAMPIONSHIP at Ole Miss and be at the top of his profession.....right? Thought so,and just curious because he might win several Championships while at Ole Miss...we just never know how things will turn out...I am not a fan of his team as I am an Miami Hurricane fan but I could not help but pointing that out to you. I am sorry, as it is never my intention to offend, but to be fair Congrats on y'all's hiring of McElwain !! Is he the coach that most fans wanted? I sure hope so....I wish we would make a move and get rid of Golden.Lol

I am sorry that I did not see this post earlier but yes Foley did meet with someone..your new coach. Foley flew out and met with him o n Saturday evening and they basically agreed to terms if McElwain could get out of his buy out agreement.

Well Nappy is actually an FSU guy. But as a Gator fan, I am happy with him. Of the realistic choices, I think he is the best fit. Time will tell if he is or not, but I do like the feeling of optimism. Have not had that the last year or two. Even after the 11-2 year, did not feel that great about the team with Muschamp. So we know how Cane fans feel now with Golden. One of my co-workers was saying that the other day. This coming year with Golden is kind of like UF's last year with Muschamp. You know the guy is probably going to get fired, but have to slug through another season before he does. So I feel your pain.

As for Freeze in Ole Miss... I am not sure he will ever be able to get enough big time recruits to compete with some of the big boys. I won't go as far to say he never will, hell he has already pulled some recruits that shock me. However, Teams like Ole Miss usually have problems getting enough depth to compete with the big boys all game and season long. So far he has, but as we saw, his team did falter eventually. I don't want to speak for Nappy, but I think that is what he was referring to.

And Skeet's comment about not speaking to anyone... I am pretty sure he posted that before Foley flew out to Colorado...

He looks to be a great coach, and a nice 'Offensive-Hire' change for the Gators. He did well as the OC at Alabama, and has turned around the Rams program. I just hope he's ready for these Central Florida summers, they can be brutal, lol. I think you'll be happier with him than Muschamp.

Here's the question... does Durkin still coach the bowl game? Or does Mac?

Sad to see us lose two recruits over the weekend. HOPE Mac and his staff (is it official he is keeping most of the D coaches?) can get out there and get some players...

Durkin. I've never seen a new coach come right in and coach a bowl game. I'm not too worried about recruiting. Florida will still end up in the top 25

I love all the positive articles coming out about McElwain. Kind of scares me with all the hype though. Not sure I remember this much press for previous coaches... maybe minus Meyer.

There is always tons of hype and tons of praise for the new guy. Doesn't matter what school. We won't know anything until he gets some of his players tho. I will be interested to see the staff he puts together and how he recruits. We will at the very least get those answers in the next 2 months. I wouldn't expect a recruiting class in the top 10. Probably going to be more like 15-20 ranking. Have my eye on a few names tho

Recruiting for a new coach is always hit or miss. I just hope he can fill a few holes. Get a few Olinemen for depth, get a few LBs and hopefully one or two of the top Dlinemen too. He does that, then its successful, imo.

I know there are always hype articles, but for some reason this feels different. Not sure why, maybe its all the commentary from the actual players at CSU. I'm not sure, but I did not remember feeling like this for Muschamp. I was more skeptical. Maybe I'm just a fool, but I have a better feeling about McElwain. I HOPE we can finally back to having a program we know can compete day in and day out.

Well correct me if I'm wrong, but we are now in the Dead period. So we won't hear much about recruiting or probably the team in general for a month. Ugh.

There are rumors T Rob is following Muschamp to Auburn. That would probably really hurt for this years recruiting.

So sounds like we have a new DC... bye Durkin. Best of luck wherever you land.

    http://www.gatorsports.com/article/20141216/ARTICLES/141219735?tc=cr

I do not know much about Geoff Collins, but the D at MSU was pretty good this year!?

I wonder if Coach Mac wanted Durkin and Durkin said he was going else where or if he wanted his own coach. I kind of hope it's the latter. IF so then I praise him for not accepting what was here and making sure it is HIS staff.

    Go Gators!

Edit: ok, so the D at MSU was not great this year except for Redzone D, and scoring D. However, they were better than us at 3rd down Defense as well as the other two spots... So I am excited to see the team next season.

Sorry to see Robinson go.He was key to signing a couple of key recruits. Now we only have 8 recruits .We may have to sign some lower level and Junior college recruits to make up for the shortfall particularly on the OL.

Losing him does hurt but a lot of good recruiters coming in. Randy Shannon may not have been a good coach but damn could that guy recruit.

Humphries leaving has been expected. A lot of people believe that Martez Ivey a 5* Tackle will commit to the Gators. Gators class should be ok and it will improve greatly.

    New coaches coming in.

Randy Shannon - Assist. Head Coach, Co Coordinator, and LB's coach. This is obviously a huge job for him and he's perfect for it. Amazing hire.

Greg Nord – tight ends coach, special teams coordinator. Been coaching for 34 yrs.

Tim Skipper – running backs coach. He coached at Colorado St. with McElwain and I heard he was best recruiter on that staff. He will prob recruit out west. His Dad and brother both coach RB's in the NFL.

Terrell Williams – defensive line coach. He was just DL coach with the Oakland Raiders. He is a young guy.

Kirk Callahan – defensive backs coach. I'd seen a few calling for him to be DB coach after T-Rob said he was leaving. He was a grad assistant at FL in 2010-11. He has been at UCF since. He is a great recruiter who will dominate Tampa area. His father coaches is HC at Armwood High School. If you follow recruiting you know thats one of best High Scools in the state (Its located in Tampa area).

Mike Kent – director of strength and conditioning. Kent started “Ram U” at Colorado State in 2012. The five-week spring system, modeled after Alabama’s “4th Quarter” program, tested the Rams’ physical and mental strength, pushing players to their limits.

Mike Summers will stay on as OL coach.

WR coach still hasn't been hired but I've only heard George McDonald and Billy Napier. Chris Leak who took over as WR coach last year will remain with the team but not as WR coach.

I expect the WR coach to named really soon. Top names on the list are
    1. Derek Dooley - WR coach Dallas Cowboys. Plenty of experience coaching and recruiting. Has coached in the SEC and with Saban.
    2. Tyke Tolbert - Current WR coach of Broncos. Has coached at Florida before. He is my least likely on this list.
    3. Zach Smith - WR coach at Ohio State. He played at Florida and was a grad assistant at Florida. He is a great recruiter and would be a good hire.

These are all names I've put together and by no means do have any inside info at all. I wouldn't be surprised if the new coach also has passing game coordinator title as well. Dooley is the guy i most think it is followed closely by Smith.

Not trying to call you out, but where did you hear those names? Just curious... And is it your opinion as to who is most likely? or a source? or website? Just curious....

I have a bad feeling about this recruiting class. I know it is always tough to compete for new coaches... but I just have a feeling this is going to be a total wash... Not sure why, but I just have that negative feeling. :S I hope I'm wrong. When does the contact period open again? This week, right?

[h=2]REPORT: UF to hire Oregon WR coach Matt Lubick[/h]
@Brody_IAKOW: IAKOW has learned through multiple sources that Jim McElwain is expected to hire Oregon WR coach Matt Lubick to same position with Florida.

Its still a rumor because he is coaching tonights National championships game .I hope its true because I would like to see some of that WR play he coached at Oregon at UF.

I'm not sure what to think about this. Coaching wise, I don't know anything about him...

However, from a logical point of view, how does this make sense?

He is coaching a team in the national title game. A team always in the hunt. Why would he make a lateral move to UF? Just looked on wiki, he is not from Florida. Is it just more $? Don't get me wrong, I am not against it. I am just not understanding it.

Just now seeing all this. Looks like McElwain and Lubick have a great relationship. So this makes a lot of sense. I figured our WR coach was still coaching or had lost in NFL playoffs. So that also makes sense. Good stuff Crunch!

I don't really know much about him. I looked at his résumé and when I was checking out the coaches who may be hired at Florida. From what I understand is he is a good recruiter and he won WR's coach of the year in 2012.
