OKC's a big winner in this deal imo. Waiters fills a big need at SG and as another complimentary scorer to KD and Westbrook. That teams gonna be a problem in the playoffs.

Initial reports included Jackson, so now it's simply a salary dump....next best thing.

Agreed and we got assets back for a change and rid ourselves of another 8.5m in cap holds or option contracts for next summer...6.5 for jr and 2m for Iman as a cap hold

And to add insult to injury, they lost to the 76ers. Yikes! But, hey, James Jones played 27 minutes. Clearly that was why he went to the Cavs.

Eh we lost to the Sixers too but with Kyrie and Love.. You have to win...

The last four years ive always seen Bosh in good spirits about his role, Love looks like he doesnt even love basketball anymore.

Is Shumpert a good defensive player still? If he is that's a bonus for Cleveland... JR Smith though... if you're Cleveland you tell that guy "rent, don't buy" when he's asking for real estate advice. You have to find a trade partner ASAP.

Shumpert is still a good defensive player when he is:
    A. Healthy
    B. Willing to play defense
    C. Not rapping and is instead playing basketball
    D. Focused

He is a capable player when all of the above align. He can hit the corner 3 but struggles from the elbows and top. He plays great in the open court. There's a knucklehead factor with him but overall the good outweighs the bad.

JR will make you cringe. He's the best bad shot maker in the league mainly because he only takes 1 good shot for every 5 bad ones. You will like that he can create off the dribble. You will hate when he thinks he's in "beast mode" and thinks he's as good as Lebron or love or Kyrie. And it will happen.

I don't like Cleveland so I hope JR Smith stays with them... You can already feel the basketball IQ dropping on that team. And Lebron thought Waiters took bad shots. He hasn't seen nothing yet..

I'll tell you right now JR Smith hates this trade, does not want to be in Cleveland. He's a city guy, he has grown up in NY since he was born, and right now wishes he had been more professional in his tenure with the Knicks. He's going to say all the PR things which is typical but the guy died a little inside with this trade.

I believe they have a 2 year shelf life, but the "two years" extends through a season...till the following trade deadline.

All Kidding aside...I LOVE what Phil Jackson has done since he took over. I have no disagreed with a single move.

I do believe that adding Reggie Jackson would have been a nice touch and that would have been ONE piece to start the rebuild with.

I've found that Shump can clamp down on anyone 1-3. His length bothers PGs and his athleticism and aggression bother SFs. But this is especially true when he isn't asked to do a ton on the offensive end in half-court sets. He's a decent two-way player, but can be elite on one end if you reduce his role on O. Which will certainly be the case in Cleveland.

I find it hard to believe he's going to sit on the Cole and Chalmers PG situation. How many playoff series can you expect to win when you're getting this kind of performance from your point guards?

There's a possibility we could trade with the Suns to grab Isaiah Thomas. I'd be ok with trading Cole/Deng maybe throw in Birdman, but I don't want to trade any of our young prospects that have potential. Ennis and Napier should not be on the block IMO. This team has sacrificed youth for winning now, and its time we groom some in-house talent.

Failing a trade, I guess we could settle for Jose Calderon once the Knicks cut bait with him, though he's not the Calderon from his Toronto days.

The future Heat team will look like this, Napier, Lebron, Wade, Durant, and Bosh.

It was planned from the start, Riley is a genius.

I actually disagree with the idea of adding Jackson in this deal had it happened. Nothing to do with Jackson as a player; I actually want to sign him as a FA. The problem with getting him in a trade where you're trying to free up cap space is that he has a 5.5m cap hold next year. That means he may not resign with you and you may miss out on other players because you can't use his 5.5m in cap space until he decides on what he's doing. I'm not sure if your can renounce his rights but the way the cap holds are laid out is such that it simply eliminates part of the bird rights.

Actually his best role on offense is one where he's more offensively involved not less. I've had this discussion with a few friends. At the start of this year, roughly the first 10 or so games Jose Calderon was hurt. Shumpert became the de facto pg/primary ball handler. Those games his FG% was up in the high 40's (normally low 40's), his ppg was up, assists. Rebounds were up and he was more involved defensively. What I've realized with Shumpert is that when you let him float around and kind of get lost in the flow of the game, he many times does.

One thing I will say is that getting rid of these two guys is getting rid of two guys that don't know how or simply don't want to run Phil's triangle

To answer your question a lot. PG is lower on the totem pole then people think when constructing an NBA roster. Tell me what the Celtics, Pistons, Spurs, Heat, Lakers Bulls, Mavs and Rockets have in common as championship teams over the last 20 years? I'll answer it for you....they all had great wing players and great bigs (even if Bosh is soft lol). It's just not a priority. You need a defensive minded PG who is a distributor more then you need a PG hell bent on getting his. If the Heat are going to let a ballets walk and it's going to be a mistake IMO. He's not a top 10 or 15 pg but he's a glue player much the way a Derek Fisher or a BJ Armstrong was. See what I did there?

Knicks won't cut him. They're on the hook for his 7.5m next year anyway. He will be traded IMO though.

Knicks did officially waive Sammy Dalembert though. Enjoy.

Going to take a very specific player with a short contract.

The options are narrow, and the price to pay is going to be Chalmers and a young guy...it might not be worth it.

I'm the biggest Dion Waiters fan in the world but I think this was a great move for the Cavs. Turned a below-average NBA player into -

Shump (probably starting SG which has been a black hole for them - plus helps defense)
JR (have to hope he plays like he did when he was 6th man of the year - but at worst he's Dion Waiters)
1st round pick (which will be flipped for Mozgov/Brandon Wright)

And they might still grab Dalembert. Who is awful - but they were playing Lou Amundson, so it's still an upgrade.

It will suck to see it happen on a team that's not the Cavs, but I hope Dion finds a way to maximize his talent in OKC.

So LeBron gets your vote for executive of the year?

Shumpert has actually been terrible defensively this year and he is constantly injured. JR has an even worse attitude than Waiters.

Quite frankly, moves like this show why the Cavs are a terrible organization and will remain a terrible organization despite having 3 theoretical top 15 players.

The Cavs gave barely any time for the mix to work and brought on worse malcontents than Waiters and will probably fire the coach by the all star Break. For all the lessons LeBron supposedly learned about leadership and winning from the Heat, he's put none of them into action.

I mean...Dellavedova and Joe Harris are combining to play almost 35 minutes per game. This makes the Cavs better. I think it's ok to acknowledge that without proclaiming it some earth-shattering 'Exec of the year' move.

Phin-O..I fail to see how a high usage inefficient player added to what is generally an efficient offense...makes any sense.

They needed defensive players and Shump's injuries have robbed him of his main skill.

They don't have a ton of assets - JR is still a better version of Dion (his usage is lower and his career TS% is .4 better than Dion's)

So they got a better version of Dion and a lottery ticket on Shump. Maybe he won't be any good - but what they have right now isn't any good and they are giving up someone who isn't any good.

Plus they grabbed an additional first rounder that they can use in a Mozgov / Wright / Biyombo trade which is something they desperately need.

I'm not arguing the Cavs are suddenly a juggernaut - just saying considering what they gave up and what they got this is a trade that helps them.

Why would Boston give up Wright, who was the centerpiece of the Rondo trade, for an extremely heavily protected future 1st rounder?
