JR and Dion is a complete wash, JR IS Dion with an ego. To say hes better than Dion is not saying anything, because you can barely tell the difference only until JR Smith's ego kicks in and thats when his basketball IQ drops to negative. So for that I rather have Dion over JR. Dont let that sixth man of the year award fool you Knicks fans in realgm did not have a damn idea how he won it.
And i like how Cavs fans are slobbering all over JR Smith now, during the offseason right after Lebron made his decision I recall a Dion Waiters interview with some sideline reporter at i think it was some summer league game he was watching, and the guy was completely incoherent he sounded like a moron. And i remember posting here or in realgm asking is this guy a good player, he sounds like a total idiot. I hope he plays better than what he sounds. And all the brand new Cavs fans that just extinguished or dug out their Lebron jerseys from the grave hole they buried it in jumped on me and said are you stupid?!?! Hes such a good player blahblahblah. But now JR Smith is the new improved Waiters. Hahahaha
The trade also magnifies what a monumentally stupid pick Waiters was in the first place, leaving Lillard and Drummond on the board. I was mad that 4 years of incompetent boobery seemed to luck the Cavs into enough assets to form their Superteam, but they appear to somehow be screwing that up as well, which is hilarious.
monumentally stupid has yet to be determined ^ the jury is still out on their decision of trading Wiggins who is getting better every month.
Yeah I mean I argued that Dion Waiters was a good player for the last 3 years. I did the same with Ted Ginn. Not really a Cavs-specific thing. It's what sports fans do - argue their team is better than your team.
Eh I think the trade does help the cavs more then some are giving credit. They needed a wing defender badly and Shumpert can still be that. Playing next to Lebron and Kyrie maybe his game flourished in a way it didnt in NY. He still has upside but hes the type of player that gets coaches fired if they cant develop him further. What really baffles me is that the Cavs needed a big much more then a defensive wing presence so why use your best trade piece for two enigmatic wing players? I mean they couldnt get Mozgov for Dion Waiters if they wanted? C'mon man! Thats crazy.
I think that 1st rounder they got in this trade will be turned around for a big man. Also - rumors that Knicks are going for Marc Gasol this summer - Cavs have Memphis' '16 pick protected 1-5 and 15-30 so if y'all could snag Gasol so we can collect it next year it'd be really helpful. Thanks.
You know at first I thought Marc Gasol would be the target because he does fit the offense and the obvious Phil/Pau Gasol connection. Then I thought about it and you know who else fits the offense? Greg Monroe or Kevin Love should they make it to FA and I'm fairly sure Monroe will and if the cavs keep imploding maybe love does too. Monroe is a spectacular fit for Phil's triangle and he has the ability to become a better rim protector. Marc avail will be 31 next year and has some knee issue. I actually don't want the Knicks to repeat history re: amare's knee issues. Granted gasols knees aren't that bad but nonetheless.
We would have given them Cole for free.. that guy is useless these days. He can take his green trash bus and his fade back to Ohio.
The Shabazz yo-yo bounces on...he's back. Will be on the road trip West, though who knows if he sees any minutes. Over 9 days they play POR, LAC, LAL, GS, SAC. Get GS on back-end of a B2B. Is 3-2 doable?
Thats possible. Sac has talent but their up tempo style actually hurts them and Bleacher Report did a good article earlier today on that. LAL can score but ya'll should beat them too. Just gotta steal one of the other 3 and beat who youre supposed to beat
I told you all 2 weeks ago, the Pistons are looking good.. Quietly putting together a nice run ever since letting Smith go. Their efficiency has gone through the roof. SVG was not going to let a roster that talented not make it to the playoffs.
Detroit's still 13th out of 15 in the East and 4 games back of the 8th seed. Let's not go nuts just yet.
No one is "going nuts" but they are going to be in the playoffs and not as an eighth seeded team. They have the best 4 and 5 combo in the East by far.
Cavs just got a whole helluva lot deeper w Shump, JR, Mozgov. Now maybe Blatt will quit trying to be the Heat and have guys like Andy and Love hedge on the pick and rolls. It's just awful to watch.
Grizzlies looking to trade for Deng. http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/miami-heat/sfl-miami-heat-luol-deng-s010815-story.html
I actually don't think Deng for Tayshaun's expiring plus a pick or two is a deal we should summarily reject. I'm not sure that Tayshaun is a huge downgrade from what we're getting out of Deng this season, and wiping that $10 million off the books next year could help us nab a mid-tier free agent next off season or have space to absorb a trade.
Both players are getting up there in age, but I dunno what Tayshaun has left. But financially speaking it could make sense to clear up more cap space.
The Heat have the pieces to clear enough Cap Space to sign a Free Agent to a Max Contract Next season if they can dump Deng's contract for an expiring one. Think about it.
Someone on realgm suggested a three way trade with the Grizzles and the Suns that send Isaiah Thomas and Green to the Heat, Deng and Cole to Memphis, Kosta and Prince to the Suns. Pipe dream, would solve several issues for us especially at PG. But I would like it. And Deng has a lot more value than just Prince and a pick.... we need to get the most we can if we're seriously considering moving him. There are no guarantees on free agency, Wade said it himself there are no guarantees we will land another star in 2015 or 2016, we lucked out big in 2010 and shouldn't be expecting that to happen again even with Riley. Get the most you can from Deng.
Monroe, Kevin Love (that would be rich), Marc Gasol. I like next year's class. And I just don't think we're getting so much from Deng that Tayshaun is a huge downgrade. This would also force Spo to play Ennis more, which needs to happen
The Cavs are actually going the opposite of the Heat. They are bringing a low post clogger, who will just get in the way. Maybe they have no choice because Love isn't even a tenth of the defender Bosh is, but Mosgov will change their offense. Unless LeBron wants to just shoot jumpers.
Who do you think they'd go after? Gasol? Is it worth it to blow your wad this offseason and lose out of next year's FA class, or would they still have enough to be a player then too? I like Deng, but if you're getting Prince and a 1st back I'd do it. This team could use an infusion of youth that the 1st could bring.
Can a roster be hypocritical? And the Heat's strategy was to have LeBron / Battier types man the PF position and Bosh play C. Which isn't what the Cavs are doing at all.
So much for that http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/miami-heat/sfl-miami-heat-luol-deng-s010815-story.html
Riley is going to play hardball and make it seem like hes too valuable until someone offers something ridiculous. Spurs might be interested in Luol as well, they might be interested in trading away Leonard since theyre not going to give him the money he seeks. Pipe dream, yes, but they are crazy enough to do it though we would need to put more on the table.
Trade deadline is a long way away. Lots of stuff can and will happen. Heat may want to see where they're at by February 1 before making any roster decisions.
