Just landed a job out of college at US Bank as a mutual fund specialist. Sean actually helped me get it, he's a mutual fund admin. But I graduated with a Sports Management degree and they still hired me so it's all good :tongue2:

Looks like only 8 spots remain. I sent messages to people involved with this this thread. While I will do the drawing/randomizers right away, we likely won't draft teams until January 23 or so to give everyone ample time to look into a team's situation.

Are we going to have a waiting list? Providing we get more than 32 people of course.

Yeah. We will. If we aren't filled up by this weekend then I'll email Jason at Over The Cap to drive some traffic this way.

I'm wondering where our nice rookie pool from last year is.

    Higgi (Arizona)
    seabass0795 (Baltimore)
    RoninFin4 (Cincinnati)
    Finfangirl (Green Bay)
    Wyld Colts (Indianapolis)
    Steve-Mo (New England)
    MagnoliaFan (Oakland)
    PhinishLine (Washington)

Did anyone change names? Seems like we only have FFG back?

Edit: And there is PhinishLine now.

I'm going to test your knowledge... I am a self employed individual that files a schedule C on his income tax return. This is the first year of me being self employed. The tax year has passed. And I'm getting ready to file my taxes. I'd like to lower my tax and put some money away into a SEP IRA. Is it too late to setup the SEP IRA since it's after the tax year? When can this contribution be made for the prior year?

    :wink2:

    From the Desk of the GML AP EiC;

It's a bit surprising to see only four teams signed up for the Miami Dolphins so far, let's take a look at them.

    Maple Fin
    BuckeyeKing
    Nappy Roots
    Boik14

Three veterans and one rookie. It's always interesting to see a rookie take the team and run with it, since 2008 there has been only one rookie GM that has run with the Dolphins and that was back in 2012 when Sking took control of the Dolphins, but like many of the other GMs he was content to stay with much of the same personnel. I mean just looking below we have a sample of roster movements. As with many Dolphins GM they preferred to keep the starter and add either a veteran to backup. From a limited look, the GM with the most drastic change happened to be FinO, who happened to not have any of the original Dolphins QB from his season.

    2014 Silverphin
    Ryan Tannehill-Rusty Smith
    - acquired #2 Overall and drafted Jadaveon Clowney
    - Added Toby Gerhart, Shonn Greene, Dri Archer to rotation with Lamar Miller

    2013 GridIronKing
    Ryan Tannehill-Ryan Fitzpatrick-Pat Devlin
    - Preferred to rebuild the WR position (Torrey Smith, Justin Hunter)
    - Preferred to build/augment through the draft (#6 Sharriff Floyd, #85 DJ Hayden, #96 Kiki Alonso, #120 Le'Veon Bell)

    2012 Sking
    Matt Moore-Pat Devlin-Aaron Corp
    - Preferred to sign cheap FAs (Kevin Boss $550K, Geoff Hangartner $450K, Vernon Carey $550K)
    - Preferred to build through the draft (#8 - Quinton Coples, #42 Kelechi Osemele)

    2011 Fin-O
    Kyle Orton-Blaine Gabbert-Brian Brohm
    - Prefers to keep the core of his defense the same, turned over the entire offense (RBs - LeSean McCoy, Mike Tolbert WRs - Steve Johnson, Danny Amendola, Laurent Robinson)
    - Prefers to draft in the first round (#2 Blaine Gabbert, #15 Robert Quinn, #26 Brandon Harris. Rd 2 #34 - WR Leaonard Hankerson)

    2010 Paul13
    Chad Henne-Rex Grossman-Stephen McGee
    - Prefers Veteran WRs as old as himself (Greg Jennings [T], Mushin Muhammad [FA])
    - Best hindsight trade (ILB Channing Crowder $1,500,000, WR Brian Hartline $310,000, OL Donald Thomas $310,000 and 3.88 FOR LB Demeco Ryans $5,885,000, RB Arian Foster $370,000 and 6.178)

    2009 Stitches
    John Beck-Chad Henne-Chad Pennington
    - Prefers to trade for picks, or a player with some noted production (49ers send: Gibril Wilson, SS - $2,500,000, 2nd round pick [43rd overall]; Fins send:
1st rd pick [25th overall] 2nd rd pick [58th overall])
    - Preferred second day selections Rd 2. Pick 43 - William Moore, SS, Mizzou
Rd 2. Pick 58 - Darry Beckwith, ILB, LSU
Rd 2. Pick 61 - LeSean McCoy, RB, Pitt
Rd 3. Pick 82 - Mohammed Massequio, WR, Georgia
Rd 3. Pick 83 - Asher Allen, CB, Georgia
Rd 3. Pick 93 - Travis Beckum, TE, Wisconsin

As you can see the majority of Dolphins GM preferred to build through the draft. Fin-O happens to the outlier who went about and changed the majority of his offense. In a historic context of the GML Fin-O falls under the Madden GM Archetype. Others like Paul prefer to make shrewd moves trading with other GMs, though he tends to be the GM who builds his reputation off one big move versus several smaller ones. He falls under the Blood Diamond GM Archetype.

In this instance if Buckeyeking were to get the Dolphins he would fall under the same umbrella as the more conservative Dolphins GMs and augment his roster rather then completely destroy it and rebuild.

If Boik were to win the Dolphins he would more likely be a combination of Paul13/Fin-O. He'll look for the big trade, but isn't afraid to remake the team in his own image. Of course he may need to change up his strategy this year as he has been shutout of awards for the past two years.

Nappy Roots won this league as a rookie, so he'd make enough big moves to earn a win, and would be a favorite to win the league with a combination of running the Dolphins and being one of the more shrewd GMs. Maple Fin would be the rookie GM and would probably be closer to Fin-O and remake the team because he'd have to learn the subtle nuances of the game. He would join Sking as the only other rookie GM to start with the Dolphins and more than likely have just a shot at the ROTY award.

Precedence has the Dolphins under a veteran as the most successful

It's not too late to set up the SEP IRA for 2014 but it depends on the employer as how late the contribution can be made. I believe. I'm still a noob.

With the 2010 roster I had no choice but to remake that offense...who ever has them this season won't really need to go that route. I am rooting for Boik to get them because I believe he will make the necessary moves to make the roster a winner.

BOIK is like some poker players I play with, something about them just makes people want to GIVE their $$ to them....or in this case players. It's a gift.

I wasn't expecting for every team to hit on their receivers. 2014 was an anomaly. Usually you will see receivers as hit and miss when it's all said and done. So, I think Kelvin Benjamin was a solid addition for the Panthers.

In all honesty, if it wasn't for the fact that there was a lot of OL talent even BEFORE the official FA period, a lot of my picks would have went there. Fortunately, I was able to focus my attention on D-Linemen, WR, and CB.

I mean, there's no better way to piss away a game like the Packers did today. I was sitting there with a big *** smile on my face asking my buddies who we were going to play in the Superbowl. Getting all excited and counting down every minute that went by. So many things had to go in the Seahawks favor in order to win that game and they all did. It was the worst emotional roller coaster I have been on in a long time. This sucks.

Just because it wouldn't be a GML without some kind of mock draft... (sidenote: I would have randomized the list of names first, then randomized the draft order.)

THE GML TEAM SELECTION MOCK DRAFT

    1. BuckeyeKing - Miami Dolphins
After suffering the indignity of being the Jets last year, BK doesn't get BK and takes the Dolphins. No brainer right? If it was anyone else but BK I would believe that, I'm sure he'd find a way to get BK'd or worse yet schisno'd just before he could officially become the Dolphins.

    2. Finfangirl - Indianapolis Colts
They've got cap room, she likes her some Griff Whalen... Is he still on the team? I don't know. She thinks she has what it takes to use the cap room to give ol' Neck Beard just what he needs to make a GML Superbowl run.

    3. ToddPhin - Cincinnati Bengals
    - Another team with a great cap situation that underachives. Todd believes they have the making of a superb defense and only needs a few key pieces. He's all about augmenting and making a team stronger and deeper. He's got the pieces and you know he's itching to bring in his own QB.

    4. Paul 13 - Jacksonville Jaguars
    - He's going to stay in Florida and work with a fairly young offense. He likes to have the ability to move with the cap space, but it still allows Paul the ability to build the team in his own image. High draft pick, good cap situation, it has paul's name all over it.

    5. Silverphin - Green Bay Packers
    - He couldn't believe the meltdown that occurred yesterday and vows to fix the mistakes the team made. It's definitely a challenge to make a good team that much better but Silverphin wants to show he can take a Superbowl contender to the next level.

    6. LeroyBoss - Dallas Cowboys
    - A cap guru, LeRoy wants a challenge to work the numbers and feels he can flip some of the high priced vets for some better pieces while still mainaining the upward trajectory of the Cowboys.

    7. Steve-Mo - Tampa Bay Buccaneers
    - The defense is there, Lovie Smith just didn't know how to use it right. Steve can't walk away from a chance to land the number one pick and turn it into something special, whether that's in the draft or through a series of trades to fill this team out. There's pieces here and Steve knows it.

    8. Bdogtitan11 - Tennessee Titans
    - The second overall pick and a team looking for a quarterback. This team looks to be void of difference makers and offers a clean slate for Bdogtitan11 to work with. did you see he had the name titan in there? It's a stretch I know.

    9. Tractor Traylor - Oakland Raiders
    - He's known for his rebuilds and he's not picky when it comes to working with difficult teams. I think he's happy he gets to build a franchise around Derek Carr and Khalil Mack. All he needs is a WR, RB and slew of other positions but this is the same GM who managed to get a steal of Trent Richardson and Matt Khalil in the top 15 of the 2012 Draft.

    10. Skull Destroyer - Denver Broncos
    - A tight cap situation and the possible loss of Peyton Manning? Skull loves a challenge and wants to help the Broncos evolve into a team that can win now and for the next decade.

    11. Sean - Houston Texans
    - Watt? Yes, he wants to take this team and make it the crown jewel of the AFC South. He likes to take these Texans teams and make them something special again. They're not far removed from being a playoff team and Sean knows he can get a slew of picks for certain players.

    12. UCF FINatic - Carolina Panthers
    - Maybe not Cam's biggest fan, but he wants to change the dynamic of that offense and had some cap space with this team to add more tools for the Panthers next QB to take this team to the NFC Conference game.

    13. PSG - New York Giants
    - They've had a down year but PSG loves him some Beckman and wants to remake this offense. No he doesn't want to prove that Eli is Elite, but wants to give this team a future. A rebuild in the works.

    14. Kingdom - San Diego Chargers
    - An ode to a dear friend Kingdom will forsake his team (he doesn't run his teams) and make something of Phillips River or die trying. The run game and defense might need a little changing but Kingdom will look to add his deft touch to this west coast team.

    15. B.Sebo - Cleveland Browns
    - Coming back out of retirement, Sebo wants to make his mark by letting all of you Johnny Football is the future of this team and will be more then happy to build an option-read offense, while showing the rest of you ne'er do well how you handle troubled players like Josh Gordon.

    16. UCFinFan86 - Pittsburgh Steelers
    - Back to back AFC North teams. A defensive mastermind UCFinFan86 plans to usher in a new Dick-less era in Pittsburgh and create a new brand of defensive football. Steel Curtain, Blitzburg... what can we expect, well we hear about the 85 Bears all the time, so why not the 86 Steelers.

    17. Vengeful Odin - Minnesota Vikings
    - He wants a redo after the debacle of the last time he led this team. is he happy with Bridgewater? Maybe, but he definitely wants to bring that barbaric, smashmouth image back to the Vikings.

    18. NYGallday521 - Kansas City Chiefs
    - Missing out on his target Giants, NYG will take the KC Chiefs because of his fondness for Jamaal Charles. This rookie will make the Chiefs a steady contender.

    19. 305 - Baltimore Ravens
    - He likes his birds and feels this team just needs some nice touches and will not need the complete overhaul other teams do and might fit his schedule a little better. Who doesn't want to find a competent number 2 (Not Torrey Smith).

    20. Teflon John - Washington Redskins
    - Teflon looking for a challenge thinks the Skins will be fun to play with, especially when he gets to much around with the QB situation. He'll look to flip a once promising player into something special and may even come up with a new name.

    21. Fin-Omenal - Arizona Cardinals
    - Looking to show he is a QB guru, Fin-O will some how turn Ryan Lindley into a Pro Bowler... by trading him and landing Aaron Rodgers again some how. He doesn't have to worry too much about the defense, but that doesn't stop him from tinkering his unit.

    22. PhinishLine - Atlanta Falcons
    - He's got a QB and WR, but there's a lot to fix on this team. PhinishLine has the want and need to strip this team down to its barebones and make a team that can make the Superbowl. Expect OJ Santiago to find himself in a coaching role with these dirty birds.

    23. sports24/7 - New Orleans Saints
    - A shrewd GM, Sports definitely plans on giving Drew Brees last few years a fighting chance at another Lombardi trophy. He sees a lot of fixable weaknesses in this team and wants to try his hand at the new cap stipulations. Especially with a team strap for cash like the Saints.

    24. Alex44 (must log in by Friday to claim his spot or it will be given to 77FinFan) - Buffalo Bills
    - It's a shock, but he just wants to find a QB and reignite a new Jim Kelly era.

    25. RPG Giants - St Louis Rams
    - Time for a new QB, WRs... whole new offense actually. RPG Giants will break up his strong defense to give this team a new look and wow the rest of the league with a Rams team that won't underachieve.

    26. VanDolphan - Seattle Seahawks
    - Van wants to prove something to Todd, what that is, I don't know. This will be the second team that Van takes over that Todd has ran the year prior, will he prove Todd wrong?

    27. sportsmike14 - Chicago Bears
    - Will he follow the Ryan Pace/John Fox blue print and build a defense around a smash mouth offense? Sportsmike knows how to deal with mericurial personalities, just ask his siblings.

    28. wakeupitsfootball - Detroit Lions
    - Not looking for a real project or rebuild, wakeup looks at the Detroit job as an ideal fit as he sees the barebones of a team that he can make great, while being able to bring back Suh. This is a suh-weet fit.

    29. Nappy Roots - San Francisco 49ers
    - Does he believe Colin Kaepernick is the teams future at QB? Nappy knows he's going to have some work with the situation dealing with certain defensive players looking to ride off into the sunset and possible replacing Crabtree. This is a high profile job that Nappy doesn't mind taking, and showing that you can succeed without a Harbaugh.

    30. Maple Fin - Philadelphia Eagles
    - Getting down to the nitty gritty. There's only one non-AFC East team left and Maple grabs hold and doesn't let go. He doesn't mind finding fits for Chip Kelly's spread offense. Besides Chip is looking for a personnel man, why not some rookie.

    31. Boik14 - New York Jets
    - If there's one thing he hates more than the Jets, it's the Patriots. So because he's a big apple man, this is his default. Why have the Dolphins forsaken him so. If anything he has a solid draft pick, cap room and the ability to completely flip this team. Boik finally lands a rebuild after taking so many stronger teams in the past. The question is can he stop the awards shutout?

    32. GridIronKing34 - New England Patriots
    - This is what happens when you're the commish, you get a Superbowl team. Griddles has a strong respect for Brady and Bill, so don't expect a whole lot of turnover, rather another run at augment and building depth to this team like he did a few years back

Seattle? Not a chance. Unless I wanted to burn em to the ground.

I mean, if I'm putting on my full Dolphins' gear for a moment, all I care about is that the Patriots don't win the SB. So to that end, which team has a better shot of beating them in the SB, GB or SEA? Before yesterday's game, I would have said Seattle easily. But now? Even with a gimpy Aaron Rodgers, it's a tough call. And Seattle's DB's are banged up. Hoodie and Brady are already strategizing how they can exploit that.
