i know what your saying.. But in this case I would disagree with your theory, his game is more based on individual qualities the Any other player in the game, individual qualities like he possess are not bias they are not dependant on entenuating variables

i don't think you need "great" at the QB position to win..you need good to very good. IMO, RT falls in that category right now.....worst case, very soon.

The proof that Russell Wilson would be the same player as what he is is in the physical talent he possesses and the mental accumen that he possesses... If you can't see those two elite variables or understand how they translate to a football field then maybe you should reevaluate how you evaluate

There's a variable you may be leaving out with regard to Wilson, however: with a defense as strong as theirs, it's possible that being in as many games as they're in (rather than being behind by large margins or blown out) makes opposing defenses have to defend the Seahawks' run game and passing game equally, without emphasizing either, which, coupled with the strength of their running game, may keep Wilson in much more favorable situations, owing to the Seahawks' offense's unpredictability. And that sounds great in theory; however, when you look at how Wilson plays when the Seahawks are trailing by between 9 and 16 points (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/splits/_/id/14881/russell-wilson), you see that his QB rating actually goes up a great deal, from his typical 95, to 131.

Right now Tannehill falls in the category of needing an unusually high level of talent on the rest of the team for the Dolphins to be competitive for the Super Bowl. When Alex Smith and the 49ers came within an overtime field goal of playing in the Super Bowl, with Smith playing largely like Tannehill did this year, they had eight Pro Bowl and/or All-Pro players on the team. This year the Dolphins had two. As a result, the 49ers that year were 13-3, and the Dolphins this year were 8-8, despite the fact that Smith and Tannehill's performances on those teams were largely interchangeable.

here's why I disagree, because when the offense needs a play in the most critical time the play will be made by the qb, essentially when they are at their worse his talent will be forced into doing all things necessary to convert. He was 8 for 8 the other week on 3rd and 6 and more.. Those are not favorable down and distances, I don't need those stats to prove what I'm saying they just happen to prove what I've been saying

I can agree with that except for the part about an unusual amount of Pro bowlers. Just a few could make a huge difference...like a O lineman and maybe a MLB. I do not think it would take 8 of them to win...I would not mind though..lol

You're actually agreeing with the post you quoted if you read it more carefully. However, Wilson's performance in the passing game last week was atypical with regard to 3rd and 6+ situations. During the regular season his QB rating was a mere 75 in those situations. However, he did rush for 156 yards on 14 attempts in those situations, at 11.1 yards per carry, and so he presents the capability of converting first downs in those situations in multiple ways. Last week he just happened to rise to the occasion passing the ball.

The average playoff team this year had more than 4, and the four teams remaining today each had 5, along with quarterbacks who played better than Tannehill did, individually. So, this team is a good ways off from being competitive at the level we'll see out there later today.

IMO, this is a chicken and egg thing. if those teams were hit with some unfortunate injuries which caused their to derail, the would have less probowlers.

ESPN has clutch-weighted EPA divided between the run and the pass for QBs, and Wilson leads the league by far in the former. See here: http://espn.go.com/nfl/qbr/_/sort/cwepaRuns

I dont know why people are surprised. I live in Philly area and RT17 gets no respect around here. I get laughed at when I tell people I'm a Phins fan and people ask me the same corny question all the time "Who's your QB again?" Because he is a forgettable guy that hasn't really accomplished anything of significance since becoming a Phin. I guess people who live in Miami are surprised but fact is, RT17 isnt considered a realistic threat in this league yet by the national consensus.

Id be happy to listen to the opinion of anyone who's actually studied his play and progression from 2012-now. Not at all interested in hearing what casual fans of other teams who have only seen him play a few times have to say.

They single-handedly dumb down the fanbase.

Which go to your point of what exactly?

As a whole Tannehill is ranked 11th, right behind Tom Brady. Pretty sure Belicheck won't be trading him anytime soon.

You can't say you wouldn't know what Wilson would be if he played in Miami then claim he would be better then Tannehill.

    That don't make sense Bro

    the poor house
I think many here are focused on Tannehill when we all should be focusing on the oline , runningback and wr . and most importantly our defense needs fixing.

here is what is needed to fix the dolphins. Ross needs to sell the team because he is using the fins as a tax write off . not to win games . if dolphins fans were smart they would be boycotting all the home games and merchandise sales.

right now we could take Norv Turner or Scott Linehan or even Mike Mularkey and win more games then philbin the idiot.

Great point. However, the offense is designed IMO to keep Tannehill in check and each year has slowly progressed to allow more options. Tannehill is still being held back from his true potential just because Philbin is his coach.

So by this theory of needing a high level of talent should equate to the team is loaded with it because his numbers were 11th. So Ireland did do a good job ---------

DJ, I was one of the ones on Wilson's Bandwagon since his freshman year at NC State all the way through his 5th year at Wisconsin which was very beneficial for him as well. I wanted so bad for us to draft him because I figured WE could get him in the 3rd round and we could have great picks in rounds #1 & #2 but we took Tannehill so I had to forget about Wilson. After all, I AM A MIAMI DOLFAN and I think we need to support our players please. I think there is way. too much Russell Wilson and Seattle Seahawks talk in our Dolphins forum for my taste ! With all respect to you my man.

4ever, I promise you I'm not the one stating russell wilson posts out of the blue, what happens is there are some trolls who like to bag on him calling him average or nothing without lynch or his defense, and i engage into that debate because first off i wanted to draft him, and 2nd, he's turned into great player, so if they continue to say that if tannnehill had what wilson has I'm going to continue to engage..I don't ever make the comparison because obviously I feel that wilson is the much better qb and that pisses some folks off.

#1 - philly fans are idiots if they don't know the starting qb of every nfl team. Aren't they suppose to be Nfl fan royalty

#2- love how you talking to a few fans means Tannehill isn't respected nationally. I guess the sample size is sufficent to make that determination. I spoke to 10 bills and jets fans that really like him, so I guess that negates you sample right?

    # 3- love the passive aggressive comment disguised as objective analysis.
