Lots of stories being floated now that ball altering is common place and Brad Johnson admits he paid people to deflate balls when he played in the Super Bowl with the Bucs.

Still doesn't matter. The Pats got caught. Just like spygate. Doesn't matter how widespread it is. If everyone in your class cheats on a test but you get caught, should you not be punished because everyone else is doing it? Not to mention having been caught before, there is a pattern of cheating within the organization. A fine, dock a draft pick or two and maybe suspend Belicheat a least a couple games for being a habitual offender.

No, Launchpad, the point is the faux anger at the "Cheatriots", who once again seem to be doing what every other team is doing. So, let's throw out the entire season. All teams are tainted. I don't see anyone arguing that. I see everyone wanting to hammer the Patriots. Why? Because they're in our division, and we can't stand them.

Faux? Mine sure the hell isn't faux...this incident, coupled with their history, and other information in this thread that I didn't previously know about, has me seriously disgusted and pissed off at the NFL...the f#$%ing Pats are doing what the NFL LET'S them do. I'm through with the NFL until such time as this sh*t is rectified...I can't support abject, obvious, ALLOWED cheating...I'm just not wired that way.

And it's not because it's the Pats...if the Dolphins did it, I'd completely disown them until the entire organization was reset.

There is no actual evidence that everyone else is doing it.

Again, they are the ones who got caught, again. We don't know for sure if other teams are doing it, but we do know the Patriots did it. And they should be punished.

I could see that happening, but it sure as hell won't make any sense. That's like saying if I'm drunk off my *** and driving - a cop pulls me over, doesn't give me a breathalyzer and determines I'm sober enough to drive, that it's the states fault if I kill or injure someone? And I would bare no responsibility?

You would think Spygate would have done that. It won't. It's just going to make Brady a bigger legend than he already is, now that he's the victim of a bunch of crappy players AND a cheating coach.

That doesn't matter. Just trust him.

Also, do we have to await confirmation from certain individuals to learn whether our anger is real when it concerns all matters, or just football, or is it just the Patriots?

That doesn't even matter. If it comes out that a bunch of other teams did this, the integrity of the competition is still destroyed.

Eh, I don't think the NFL will do anything about Rodgers claiming he over inflates, but I do think other teams will double check as to put him at a disadvantage if they are over inflated. Kinda Harebrained on his part for opening his mouth about it.

They probably will get a small slap on the wrist. Go on to win the super bowl and cap off the worst year of PR for the NFL. Fitting.

This will have no effect on the legacy of Tom Brady, although he is the player who has benefited most from both instances of confirmed cheating by the Patriots.

This shouldn't make sense to me, but it does; I remember watching Brady throw 2 interceptions directly to defenders in a game where the team was averaging over 8 yards per carry when running the ball. The first item of discussion at halftime: "Brady should have thrown the ball more."

Just watched what the First Take crew said about this and Stephen A. Smith pretty much said what I feel, if it is found that Belichick authorized and knew of this, he has to be suspended for the Super Bowl and the 2015 season, plus they have to take away that first round pick.

Belichick's career may be on the hands of a ballboy making 10.00 per hour, which is the lowest position on the team staff totem pole. The NFL will likely offer any sort of compensation to that ballboy to get the findings they need.

Agreed with those sanctions. But as repeated cheating offenders, I think it's only fair that the penalty be increased and they lose two fist round picks this time to acknowledge they are repeat cheats.

    The plot thickens........

ESPN's Adam Schefter says the Colts' suspicions date back to their Nov. 16 game against New England, a 42-20 Patriots win. In that game, Indianapolis safety Mike Adams intercepted two passes and handed both balls to the Colts' equipment manager to hold as souvenirs. Both balls, Schefter's sources say, were noticeably underinflated.

Those sources said the Colts raised concerns to the league, which was aware of the issue going into this weekend's AFC title game.

The timing of everything else then falls into place. Reportedly, the Colts' Sunday suspicions were confirmed the first time they got their hands on one of Brady's balls: when D'Qwell Jackson picked him off in the second quarter. The equipment manager told coach Chuck Pagano, who told GM Ryan Grigson, who told the NFL's director of field operations, who alerted the officials working the game. At the half, they inspected the balls.

It all started in 1982 with a snowplow.

Some of the suggested punishments I'm reading online are good.

One example [link contains NSFW language]: Force them to be on Hard Knocks for two seasons.*

*Apparently the OP took this from Colin Cowherd. I don't listen to Cowherd, so I didn't know.

I'm not watching the whole game, I'll check in periodically to see if the Seahawks are winning, then start watching. If the Patriots "win" the announcers wouldn't have the balls to bring up Deflategate or Spygate, they will probably verbally suck Belichick's nuts.

And if going to a party i'll just drink and eat and try to ignore it.

I know this makes me sound like a pearl-clutcher, but I think cheating is a big deal:

I'd bar those two from the Hall of Fame. You can't take their Super Bowls away, and you can't disqualify them from this one. I'm not sure suspensions are in order, so that leaves this one thing. This one, very large, symbolic thing.

Get caught cheating multiple times? Don't don the gold jacket.

Perhaps the NFL HOF voters will take matters into their own hands like the MLB voters have with Barry Bonds/Sammy Sosa/Mark McGuire and the rest of the roiders.
