I found Matt Leinart's tweet disturbing.. "Every team in the NFL tampers with the footballs, ask any QB in the league"... wtf is going on in the NFL if this is true?

because all qbs want their balls to fit the way they want, its a feel game, so I'm sure they all manipulate it...

If the Patriots used regulation balls in the 2nd half, which is when they opened the can of arse whooping on the Colts, then look for a slap in the wrist (maybe face because of Belicheat's history).

This is in the game manual for the penalty for the inflated balls. It's opened ended so Goodell can of course impose something severe, but it's obvious the NFL doesn't view this violation that seriously.

From reading all this, I get the idea that there are things QBs have done to balls before they are inspected which doesn't raise any eyebrows during inspection. Scuffing, roughing up, whatever. But those balls go through and pass inspection. The greasiness of all this is that the Patriots tampered with balls post inspection. I'm guessing that is something other teams are NOT doing. So all this, "But other teams do it!" **** doesn't fly with me. And I can't believe grown *** men are using this as a defense. We are taught in grade school that "I did it because I saw so and so doing it" is not an acceptable defense of bad behavior.

It doesn't make it right, but if everyone is doing it, it does affect the analysis of "integrity of the game." The integrity is shot anyway if everyone is doing. The NFL procedure is stupid. Inspect the balls 2 hours before the game, instead of right before the game? Come on .

The Patriots get caught doing things that "everybody is doing," yet they are the only team that gets caught doing these things multiple times. They must be the real victims here.

You really don't get it do you? It's got nothing to do with who it is, aside from the fact it's their second cheating offense now. It's all about compromising the integrity of the game, and... cheating. How you dont get it... is beyond me.

Unless anyone heard anything different it don't sound like anything is going to be done till after the SB. And I would bet this is on Brady more than Belicheat, the QBs control the balls. And I bet alot of other QBs are quite nervous what this means from here on out. Wouldn't be surprised if no team gets ANY access to footballs before the games.

Sure, they might... but Kraft has probably already offered him an absurd amount of money to keep his mouth shut. So Bill will tell the NFL he had no idea. The ballboy will say I have no idea, or he'll admit to doing it on his own. He's fired, but has enough cash to not care.

apparently the NFL was going to check the patriots footballs at halftime regardless due to the complaint the colts had in november. also it seems according to former official gerry autstin all 12 of the colts footballs were properly inflated when checked at halftime also the 12th ball the patriots had was underinflated as well just not 2 pounds under.

Tampering doesn't really have to do with the end result of the actual game, though it also isn't right and should be dealt with (which it is). But things that can impact the results of a game are a bit different.

I've actually seen people mention the Dolphins "cheating" because of the AFCChamp against the Jets as a way to try to argue this...by not putting tarp on the field. That's called a home field advantage, its humid and rainy in Miami, and they used the weather to their advantage. That's like saying any northern team like Chicago, NE or Buffalo cheats when it snows by not putting a roof over the stadium. No, that is part of their home field advantage when a snow team plays a dome team on a snowy home field.

Even if everyone else has done this, I'm just surprised they would do something so stupid after Spygate. They didn't even need to do it to beat the Colts, but they still did. Its bizarre...why does Belichick feel the need to do it? (Although I doubt everyone else has done this before a Championship Game. Thats even dumber.)

I know you said, "whether or not he knew about it," but what if he didn't and it's 100% on Brady?

This is all speculation, of course, but I wouldn't want Belichick to be fired, regardless. I would welcome some kind of real punishment from the league.

If this ends up being all on Brady, it would figure, given how he cockily told Harbaugh to "check your rulebook" after the Ravens game. It's not quite "we're only going to score 17 points?" but it's still good.

still Belichicks team, much like a CEO has to take the fall for lots of things not ordered by them, the one in charge of the team takes the blame. it's their watch, you can't let the inmates run the asylum, so to speak.

Look, I don't like the idea of Brady using deflated balls, but logically, I can't be super pissed if it's common place. If A-Rod is up for MVP still after admitting that he overinflates in hopes the refs don't notice, I can't really criticize. If a QB is willing to spend 75 hundo to prep superbowl balls, which are heavily guarded, then what?

Thanks. I don't know... Brady is a special inmate whose reputation has overcome everyone's, including Belichick's, IMO. If the reputations of Brad Johnson or Matt Leinart are dragged in the dirt, I'm not sure there's any loss to them. As for Rodgers, I agree with you that it was stupid for him to speak up about it. We'll see what happens as things continue.

If Richard Sherman is any indication, the Seahawks don't really care about this.

I get it. Perfectly. Too many people care because it's the Patriots. I'm simply asking why there aren't multiple threads on here, complaining about Aaron Rodgers, or the Panthers, or any if the other instances that have been uncovered. I'm not saying it's ok because many teams are doing it. I'm saying, be honest, and admit it's because it's the Patriots. Either that, or treat everyone equally, and be pissed about all the teams and QBs doing it.

I actually like Sherman a lot. Emotional, funny, fiery player skilled player.

I don't think it will drag his reputation in the dirt. Not one bit. I still think he gets in the hall of fame.

I'd say the Panthers case is just as bad, so string them up as well. I think the lack of indignation for Rodgers is due to the fact that he over-inflated the balls before they were inspected. Modifying them after they've already been checked is a completely different case.
