Sam Bradford, Jake Locker, Christian Ponder, Chad Henne, Mark Sanchez, Josh Freeman, Tim Tebow, Jimmy Clausen, Colt McCoy, Blaine Gabbert, Brandon Weeden, Andy Dalton, RG3, Kirk Cousins, EJ Manuel, Geno Smith, Mike Glennon. 17 QB's since 2009 who haven't shown appreciable improvement in their game. This is an unsubstantiated meme. You still need a modicum of talent to play QB in the NFL. We all saw what happened with the Cardinals with their backups. The fact is that it's NOT easy to improve at QB in the NFL. Some guys like Josh Freeman were able to do it year on year but he ended up sucking the year after that. A base rookie year and two consecutive seasons of improvement is not a common thing in the NFL. The only QB's who have done that recently that I can think of are Andrew Luck and Ryan Tannehill. Matt Ryan had a down second year but picked it up in his third while Russell Wilson is just damn special. This is like the idea that Wilson is good because of the system he's in. If Russell Wilson were in such a good system, why do NFL QB's bust out if they can just break out the Wilson system? If it's easy to improve in the NFL, where are these clearly improved players?
I wouldn't lump Bradford in a category of QBs who aren't any GOOD....we all know what his issue is and it certainly isn't talent.
Sorry I guess I'm talking about year 2...His first full year starting. He went like 27-2, or something stupid. But then, I'm sure you were aware what I was talking about...
Are you changing the definition of outstanding to argue this point or do three 80 and one 30 rating count as outstanding to you? It was an improvement over what he had done but you can't realistically count on that as true progress. Especially considering we let him pitch a perfect game at the end of the season, in large part due to Eric Decker destroying Finnegan all day and insufficient pressure.
Trade Tannehill? WTF?? What has he done wrong? Did you see Andrew Luck against the Patriots? Should they trade him too? The kid has come in here, worked his *** off to start in the NFL as rookie, and started for 3 full seasons in 2 different systems. He's had a below average OL and his team traded away his only chance of having a true #1 WR the year he was drafted. I would rate the weapons that he's had over the past 3 years as average. In 2012 he had nobody to throw to but Brian Friggin Hartline. Also.... 3 straight years of improvement. Very little College experience at QB. He's earlier in his development than the average 3rd year QB. Lastly, he is one tough SOB. I love how he can get crushed over and over and get right back up. I think we have our franchise QB. We need to give this guy some playmakers to work with and he will keep getting better. I wish we could stop worrying about RT and focus more on our inability to draft dominant playmakers at WR or TE. That is the real story of our lack of success.
Well even his 2nd year wasn't his first full year starting. He didn't even beat out Vick, he only came in after Vick got hurt and lit it up. And yes, it was something stupid. A TD pass % of 8.5% (2.3% the year prior, and 4.2% the year after) which is something even the greatest QBs have only managed to do a handful of times (Aaron Rodgers - 2011, Tom Brady - 2007, P. Manning - 2004, Dan Marino 1984). Chances are he never has a season anything close to 2013, as even the best passers of this generation get ~6% TDs, and ~2% INTs (Foles had a stupid .6%).
Madness. If RT17 never gets an ounce better than he was this season, he is still is way better than majority of QBs in the league, and a viable starting option.
Crazy the year he had in '13 and then the abbreviated year he had this year. 13 td's and 10 int's after what he did the year before is a big disappointment.
So lets say hypothetically we do trade Tannehill, who is the replacement? Because if youre going to trade a Qb with a 66% completion rate (even if it is on dinks and dunks), 4000 yards and a 27/12 TD int ratio you better be giving me someone better then that.....Otherwise I just as soon consider this idea trolling because basically thats all it is...
But I thought if we traded Tannehill...even without ANYONE to play QB...we would be a better team?? I might just go the route of getting better players around him...maybe starting with the off line...but thats just me
1000% agreed. Actually to take it a step further, a handful of those guys regressed and havent reinvented themselves in any way like RG3, Freeman, Sanchez and so not only have they not improved...theyve gotten worse! The premise that its easy to improve in the NFL is flat out silly.
lol. Tannehill has gotten better and better each year and people still want to exile him. Dolphins fans gonna Dolphins fans.
2012 Draft Class: Luck=Wilson>Tannehill>Foles>>Griffin III ---------------------(Both Top 5)--(10-12)--(14-17)--(24-28)
I would trade Foles for Tannehill in a heartbeat. Subscribed. Time-capsuled. See you in 5 years thread.
Philbinfan. And what hope is that? We just let matt Moore hand the ball off 35 times a game? You didn't offer an alternative. You started a thread which is only gonna go the same way as every Tannehill thread on the mains. You then complained people bashed you instead of answering your question. The same question you didn't answer yourself. Who takes over if we trade away the only bit of stability we've had for 10 years at the position? Your post was designed to create this thread, then you're surprised it went that way. You want an answer? A couple years back we'd have got a 1st and some others. Now he's heading to a big contract we might not. Indy ponied up a 1st for Richardson. Tannehill way better than Richardson. Who has done more for this team in the last three years? Tannehill or Philbin? Go on philbinfan, justify to us why Philbin is better.
If the bills and Jets find good qbs in the future. The very fact that you are saying that ruins your post. This is 2 teams who would be better with tannehill at qb. This is 2 teams who have drafted a qb since we took RT. Now you say they need to go again. It's evidence that it's not easy finding a qb who can actually play well. Your thread sucks man.
No, the only people ruining this thread are the majority who turned it into a RT sycophant fest. The thread was about determining RT's value and assessing a trade value to him. What is Ryan Tannehill worth on the open market this March?? _________________. One guy said two firsts....what say you? I'd be elated with a high first or a first and a 5th. I would have big plans for that 5th.
Go on matey. Explain why the bills and Jets need a new qb despite drafting theirs after us? You have high hopes for a fifth round pick? Go on, enlightenment awaits. Who has done more for the Dolphins in the past 3 years philbinfan, is it granpa Joe or tannehill?
In other words, you didn't create this thread to cause mass controversy. You just wanted to waste everyone's time. If we have a young QB that is good enough for teams to give us high/multiple draft picks for, why the heck would we trade him? The very concept of this thread is senseless.
First of all: I had high hopes for Joe Philbin, he had a great resume. I am no longer a fan of Philbin, especially now that they gave him so much influence in player acquisition. Ross is the biggest of the idiots, after all, he is responsible for letting Jeff Ireland ruin this team. I need a name change; how do we do that on this site? As for your questions, I will answer your questions when my one question has been answered to my satisfaction.
Dude. I answered your question. Now we all have to wait until you are satisfied with all the answers? That's a bratty thing to say.
I think you should stop the mania and think about what you just said...................I started the thread to waste peoples time. If you are under the impression that thread observance and participation is any way mandatory, it is time to up the medication. Nobody is watching over you to make sure you are reading all the threads; on the other hand, there may be a strong argument by some that spending any time on these kind of forums is a waste time. Thank God we have the freedom to waste our time as we choose. So, if you feel this thread is unworthy of your time.....by all means...leave!
I'm not sure anyone should have "big plans" for a 5th-round pick. There have been only 10 of the 153 picks (6.5%) in the 5th round that have started at least half of their team's games between 2010 and 2014, when drafted between 2008 and 2012. Moreoever, that number in the first round is just above 50%. So in trading Tannehill for a 1st and a 5th, you'd be getting someone with a little better than a coin flip's chance of starting, and someone with very little chance of starting. And we haven't even talked about the fact that the team now has no quarterback. That's a glaring problem in your equation.
In all honesty, if we were to trade Tannehill -- something, for the record, I think is, at best, an extremely bad idea -- we could get a first rounder for him, considering how QB starved this offseason is.
RT is our franchise QB... much to do about nothing. some people just live to *****! our needs are OL, DL, LB not franchise QB's.
Never stop looking but there are many other parts of our team which need more work than qb. Although CK has got me convinced that rakeem cato could be a good pick. He'd probably be a 5-7 rounder maybe?
I wouldn't mind grabbing Cato in later rounds. He could be a good QB to 'groom', just in case anything happened to RT17 for one reason or the other.
