This strikes me as a pretty decent hire all things considered. He's certainly a downgrade from Kacy Rodgers, but he's not Charlie Bullen either.

He was of course Mike Sherman's DL coach at Texas A&M.

He's already caused a ton of stress for Gator fans. Their 5* d-line recruit is now having second thoughts due to Williams leaving.

Already looking like a great hire!

I think he was supposed to join the Gators this year but took the Dolphins job instead.

I thought he already took the Gators DL job. Held it for a few weeks. Then quit to come to Miami.

    Philbin picked this guy?

EDIT: NM, just saw he worked for Sherman at A&M

Not necessarily, but it continues a pattern of Philbin looking to a network of coaches that have some association with him or his friends. This is a good ol boy staff if there has ever been one.

That is pretty standard practice in the NFL.

It also makes sense due to the amount of time they spend together and how close they work together.

There is pretty much no person qualified for this position level they could have hired that you would not have said this about.

The DL has been spiraling downward for the past two years. A change certainly couldn't hurt.

In all seriousness, few if any of we fans are really qualified to judge the abilities of Williams. Considering there are 32 DL coaches in the NFL, how many here can even name half of them off the top of their head, let alone be in a position to evaluate them in that role?

So basically the Dolphins lost one of the better DL coaches in the NFL and end up picking up a DL coach who was a coach on one of the worst teams in the entire league last season.

The fact he had no other job offers in the NFL after last season and was back in college when he was hired with the Dolphins is also very telling.

I think this just shows that no top tier assistant wants to come and work for a lame duck head coach. I hope Williams enjoys his one season in Miami and I am sure another college will be willing to hire him after next season.

Nothing you said makes any sense. Your conclusions are without logic. Just comes off as negative just to be negative.

Going from one of the worst teams in the league to one of the premier college programs isn't really a lesser position.
If you want something that is telling, the better idea is consider how the Raiders DL played during his time there.
Actually, you nor any of the rest of us know exactly whether or not he received any other job offers when he took the Florida job. Jobs offered to the various assistant football coaches are not always made public knowledge. Even head coaches for that matter. Here we are 3 years later just now finding out that Bret Bielema was interviewed for the Dolphins HC job when it was open. Don't recall if you were following this forum back then, but I definitely do not recall his interview being public knowledge.

I think it's awesome that an experienced coach that was hired at a division 1 powerhouse, would leave for the Dolphins! Awesome job coach philbin!

Not nearly as uninspiring as your continued presence in these forums...IMHO.
