So far, is Dion Jordan the worst bust in Dolphins' history?

What was that guy from Tennessee? LB? Was he a first-rounder? Anyway, that dude sucked ***. Jason Allen, I actually really liked. Maybe more his size, but he did make some boneheaded plays.

In my lifetime, Ronnie Brown is only second to Ricky Williams as far as the most exciting runner I have watched in a Miami uniform. Brown was a straight beast at times! Injuries hindered a potentially great career. Nice hands out of the backfield. Everything you want in a runner: size, speed, soft hands. Miss those days. Wish we had Ronnie Brown sans injuries early in his career.

Sammy Smith has to be the biggest bust. Cost us so many games singlehandedly and was a drug addict loser outside of football. Could've been a great RB if he kept his crap together.

Jamar Fletcher and Eddie Moore reflect the ineptitude of the Wanny years. Our Hall of Fame QB retires and he drafts a CB when we already had Madison, Surtain, and T-Buck? Fletcher was horrible and a waste of a draft pick.

Eddie Moore was a 2nd Rounder but there were so many good players available at that spot and LB wasn't even a need. He was drafted for Special Teams. Special Teams! How dumb.

Joe Rose hasn't had any interesting content in years, so I'm not surprised this was a topic of conversation on his show.

Only radio show that's worse in this market IMO, is the Eric Reed/Leeroy Hoard Show.

This and Allen are my two candidates. Kumerow and Jordan for honorable mention

Prime example of how Jimmy was great at finding defensive players in the draft but was basically clueless when it came to drafting offense. Even back in his Dallas days, he was as lucky as he was good. In 1990 his 1st round #1 target was not Emmitt Smith. It was Baylor LB James Francis. They tried to trade up to take him but were unsuccessful. They had to stand pat at 17 after failing at trade up attempts and only took Smith because he fell into their laps and was the highest rated player on their board.

That 1998 draft was a fine defensive effort. Traded a 1999 1st for a 2nd to take Surtain. Took Kenny Mixon and Lorenzo Bromell. Both solid contributors. But failed when he traded down before the draft, effectively removing himself from the Randy Moss sweepstakes. Then said afterwards had he stayed put in the 1st he'd have taken Vonnie Holliday. Though that wouldn't have been a bad pick. Seeing Marino getting to throw to Moss for 2 years would have been nice though. Then in the 2nd, after seeing Jeremy Newberry get taken a few picks ahead of us, rather than settle for a better center in Olin Kreutz, he decided to trade down for 3 picks that were basically wasted on guys like Larry Shannon and Nathan Strikwerda. Jimmy then had the audacity to say after the draft that with the Shannon pick, he was able to get a bargain on a WR as big and fast as Moss. Kind of telling that in his 4 seasons running our drafts that Jimmy's best offensive draft pick was Rob Konrad. Some may say it was Karim Abdul-Jabbar though. Personally, I'd consider Konrad a better FB than Karim was a RB.

im not giving up on jordan yet, i think he still can be a stud if used right. as for the biggest bust i can remember it would go to jamar fletcher, still a shock he made it 8 seasons in the NFL.

Dammit this thread is giving me bad memories. The same arguments people used to use to defend Jason Allen (prototype physical specimen in the wrong position) are being used now to defend Dion Jordan.

I'm starting the think the problem could be that a sack of ball peen hammers is smarter than JA and DJ combined.

Same arguments also were used with Charles Clay and Paul Soliai. Same arguments for any rookie who struggles. Some come out of it, some don't.

Charles Clay and Paul Solial were always seen as a TE and DT respectively, which makes them a different case. Jason Allen was seen as a Safety who the coaches tried to make into a CB and Dion is seen as an OLB the coaches are trying to make into a DE.

Where I see a parallel between Dion Jordan and Jason Allen specifically is a brain with an inability to make football decisions matched to a perfect for football body.

I can't agree with this at all. The sample size for DJ is pretty small. The time he has been on the field he has been reasonably productive. I think you may be reaching with that comment.

Seriously, for me as well the biggest bust HAD to be Jamar Fletcher....I was in my living room just waiting to hear that our pick was DREW BREES who had luckily fallen to us and then to hear Fletcher just absolutely killed me inside !!! UGH !!

I did cuss a lot when that pick was made.

It made ZERO sense. Miami had two young amazing cornerbacks. A nickelback is not worth a first round pick. I wasn't even a fan of Brees at the time.

Jonathan Martin would have to make this list.

Flat out imploded the season and given walking papers. Still reeking the benefits from him.

Meh. Probably. The guy has no heart... Maybe just cuz of how we want to play him.. But it doesnt matter. Traded up. 3rd overall. Suspended. Poor play. Poor fit... Bust for us. Maybe not for him, as he will likely catch in elsewhere because eventually he will grown up and play well... But for us.... Bust.

Yatil Green suffered several serious injuries, so I don't think that's a fair assessment.

By "bust", I think we have to go with talent that just didn't work out in the NFL. Like QB Ryan Leaf.

Otherwise, we could say 1st round draft pick RB David Overstreet was the biggest bust in Dolphins history, because he was killed in a car crash.

He's a bust, there's no denying it, but he's not even in the same ballpark as the worst busts in our history. Jamar Fletcher and Eddie Moore are far and away the biggest busts in our history, because with those two picks and who we should have taken instead we would have had a shot at a dynasty and instead we got progressively worse until the wheels fell off completely.

Avery was a straight up bust who preferred video games to learning the playbook, Milner was just terrible and started at OT out of need, Shula knew that he screwed up on that pick and couldn't get him out of town fast enough, dude was Dallas Thomas bad, if not worse (ouch).

I can think of a couple more OL stiffs, both 2nd rounders, Andrew Greene an the immortal Eddie Blake. Greene actually had a pretty good career back home in Canada and some in the NFL but did nothing in Miami. Eddie Blake's was physically a monster, but mentally he was comparable to Blaster from Mad Max Beyond the Thunderdome. Cocaine in spiked punch, Dolphins playbook is the same as Auburn's, don't worry about it coach, what a trip. Pat White stands out as well.

While many of the names mentioned were certainly not productive as first round picks. What makes Jordan different is that he not only cost the the Dolphins the first round pick they seem to have wasted on him. They also gave up a second round pick to move up and select him.

All the other players listed who were busts with the Dolphins at least only costs the Dolphin their first round pick in their respective drafts.

As some individuals have pointed out, Jordan could surprise us all and come in and perform at a high level this coming season. Unfortunately I will be completely surprised if he is still a member of the Dolphins once the 2015 season begins. I expect him to be traded for a 5th-7th round pick before the season begins.

If he is traded, no matter what he does with his next team, he would have to be considered the biggest bust in Miami Dolphin history, simply because of the of what was expected from him when he was drafted and what it cost the Dolphins to move up and select him in the 2013 draft.

    3rd round pick, not second.

And costing picks is not in and of itself really the problem, its about having a major season crushing hole (like at QB) and then not selecting what would be a future HoF QB (Brees) when that's all we needed for a serious run at being a dynasty, for a reach player at position of strength.

You could make a case for brees struggling in san diego as well before he signed with the saints, we gave up a 3rd overall pick and a 2nd rounder to get this guy...the resources spend make him the biggest bust in dolphins history, imo

Fin D, I know I am getting up there in years, but the Dolphins traded their pick in the first round and pick 42 to trade up with the Raiders to be able to select Jordan.

Unless there are far fewer teams in the league than I realize, pick 42 was a second round selection.

As far as the rest of your comment is concerned, I agree with you.

this player has done nothing, as far as I can see, to put forth the discipline and effort to become an elite, or even excellent NFL player. We can blame the coaching staff and who drafted him but in the end, he needs to take it upon himself to get better. He is getting paid batter then most people on this board (I wont say all) to play a game and he has pissed away this opportunity. If he is unhappy with how he is used, or even just being here, oh well. I am not happy in my job but I go and do the best I can every day.
