First game of the season... Patriots home opener... SB champ gets that Thursday night... Would you want the Dolphins to be the opponent? yes or no? And why? To me, the pluses would outweigh the minuses. You'd get an extra few days to prepare for week 2. You travel to NE in September (instead of late in the year) when the weather should be favorable. You'd likely get NE in Miami late in the season... which is always good. You travel there and face them when they are generally not as sharp (early in the season vs late in the season). The minuses? I can't think of many. can you?
I think all of that is usually overcome by a Super Bowl champion fired up to be playing opening night on their home turf.
No, we are just asking to go 0-1 if we wanted to go play a fired up SB champion team. I dont feel like getting embarrassed week 1 on national TV.
Definitely. That's my birthday and I couldn't think of a better way to spend it that watch the Phins beat the defending superbowl champs.
No, Super Bowl winners are hugely successful on their opening night. Not that its helped playing in New England any other time recently... the 2005 season was the last time they beat the Pats in New England with Brady not hurt. Although, he only played half the game since they were already set in their playoff spot. They've actually never beaten the Pats in NE when Brady plays the whole game. So maybe it would be nice to get it out of the way... But, its probably going to be Steelers or Eagles, the more attractive teams. The Bills also have Rex Ryan now which would probably give them the edge as well considering his Pats history.
The Steelers have the best shot of winning that game, IMO. Followed up by slim chances for the Eagles. I dont think the Bills or Phins stand a chance. Only way I see us having a chance is if we sign Suh and thats because of Brady's struggles against interior pass rush.
Even if we could just play New England early in the year...Like some time before October. Thing is the NFL I think finds it more intriguing if you take a warm weather team like us and put us in New England or Buffalo in late December. We'll either be playing at Buffalo or New England late in the year. Maybe someone could tell me the last time we played both of them in their stadiums early in the season (life before November), but I can't honestly remember. Once again I think in order to get in to the playoffs we are going to have to sweep the season series against one of these teams and win at least one game against the other.
we're going to New England... We're going to Buffalo... We're going to New York... we're going to London... yeahhhhhhhhhhhh
Don't think we get nor deserve that game, no real story line on our side to contribute to the hype. Buffalo has Rex, Philly has an exciting offense, Pitt could very well eat them. Why the hell would they pick the Miami Dolphins....to the NFL we are not very good and not very interesting.
I don't have a big issue with having to play a cold weather game against a divisional opponent. If you're good enough it shouldn't be that much to overcome. I do agree with the early in the season remark, as I think people are misinterpreting the poll question a bit. Paul asks if we would want to play at NE for the Thursday night season opener. To me that's walking into a hornet's nest. But that also doesn't mean we couldn't play them up there in weeks 2, 3, 4 or 5 while it's still pretty warm. In fact, I think you'd have a much higher chance for success playing them up there in those weeks than you would week 1 when emotions are going to be at their highest.
A game at New England late in the year is almost a guaranteed loss, so there is absolutely no downside in going early. I's say we have like a 20% chance of winning there in opening weekend, vs about 5% in December.
Give us NE @ NE in week 2 when they arent fired up to destroy whichever opponent they face. I would be happiest playing in NE between weeks 2-4. I do not want them in the league opener, I believe we have a 1% chance of winning in that game.
While it might be better for our season overall if we can get off to a win against the Pats again, I don't think it matters where we play them for the 2nd game, as they'll probably destroy us.
NFL isn't scheduling Miami, they want an actual good team to go against them on that night.....I am thinking Steelers or Eagles...
It really doesn't matter to me when they play their two games against the Patriots. As the past two years have clearly shown, the Dolphins can beat the Patriots at least once a year and it still doesn't matter over the course of an entire season. Whether they beat the Patriots next year or not, I still see the Patriots winning the division by at least two games, if not by three. The Patriots will win the division in 2015 and it will probably be the Bills who are their main competition in the division.
I hope so. It'll be nice to go up there and kick their asses on national TV. We match up well with them, regardless of how many Dolphin fans wanna cry about how we have no chance.
All this BS about SB Champs winning their next game is garbage. That same Super Blunder champ had a 10 season opener streak until 2014. Not scared. Bring it the F on.
I'm starting to think even a game vs Jacksonville in December gives MIA about a 5% shance of a win...
No No No and NO! SB champ has lost like once since they started this idea a decade ago. This is an uphill battle, that we could lose even with a very solid effort. Let the Bills or Steelers take this first loss.
