in terms of their need for a QB. Finally a ranking where its nice to be at the bottom. http://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl...n-terms-of-quarterback-desperation/ar-AA9feE1
Can't be. I distinctly remember a "Trade Tannehill" and a "I'm out on Tannehill" thread not too long ago.
Based on the writers comment regarding signing Tannehill to a long term contract, it doesn't appear he is sold on Tannehill being the long term solution for the Dolphins at the position. It appears his ranking is based more on the fact the front office is trying to sign Tannehill to a new deal than it is on his production on the field.
Sounds about right. About to sign him to long term deal, it makes sense. As far as article goes, it should be more of a yes or no type of deal rather then rankings.
There were two sentences. One saying we're rumored to be trying to sign him in the first half and the other half saying long term may be ambitious based most likely on the length and size of the contract. The second sentence is saying that in spite of the contract itself maybe being ambitious, his opinion is that Tannehill will be good for years. I don't know how you read what you read.
where do we rank in terms of offense ? I would be curious as to where we rank on both sides of the ball and as to which positions do we need the most.
Perhaps it is you who has a little trouble understanding what you read. He never stated Tannehill would be good for years. He merely stated that since they want to sign him to a new contract, there appeared to be no reason to chase after another QB, AT THIS TIME. He NEVER stated he thought that Tannehill was a good or a bad QB. Only that the organization seemed intent on sticking with Tannehill by signing him to a long term deal, which he seemed to question by calling this possible signing, ambitious, on the part of the organization.
He is good and improving. But Tannehill doesn't yet warrant a long term deal. If he doesn't get to the elite!
It appears to be a modest 15 million dollar a year contract. Im not too upset about that, I would of been upset had he gotten anything over 16 million a year. Now I just gotta see where the guaranteed money is at.
I agree Tannehill is an improved QB. Personally I see no free agent QB or college QB I would want over him next season, except perhaps Winston and he will be gone after the first pick in this years draft. I just don't think it is necessary to sign him to a new contract at this time. He is already signed for next season and the Dolphins can opt to pick up his contract for 2016 at a cost of $15 millions. That is basically what has been reported he is being offered for the 2016, as part of his new contract offer. If he continues to show improvement and he leads the team to the playoffs this coming season, the Dolphins can always sign him to a long term contract after the 2015 season. The fact is that he has a losing record as a starting QB in the NFL. Every other young QB who has signed for big dollars has at least led his team to the playoffs. Tannehill still hasn't even led them to one winning season. Also, the writer for this article stated that the Jets are one of the teams with the biggest need at QB. I won't argue that this is true. I just remember that the Jets and Dolphins have met four times in the past two years and in two of those meetings, the Jets QB clearly outplayed Tannehill on the Dolphins home field. Tannehill may eventually prove to be worth a new long term contract for big money. I just don't think he has proved it yet, based on his inconsistent play in the past three years.
That is a fair assessment too. Winning to me is everything. I could honestly care less about stats. RT17 hasnt proved to be a winner nor has he raised anybody on the offenses game to another level like the top tier QBs do.
While I agree Miami has no need at the QB position, this list is pretty nuts. I liked the way it started until I saw the placement of guys Drew Brees, Phillip Rivers and Matthew Stafford. Stafford especially seemed way too far down the list especially coming off a playoff season.
Noooo. He explicitly said "But" there's no reason to look for a QB. But meaning in spite of the previous sentence, he's still worth not searching for someone else. Language isn't this hard.
I think that the whole purpose of the article is to list teams looking for a QB RIGHT NOW. With a small guaranteed 2015 salary, and a reasonable non-guaranteed 2016 salary, its completely reasonable that the Fins shouldn't be looking for a new starting QB to anyone who's not passionately anti-Tannehill.
Again, you are the one who is having a difficult time with language. First you stated that the writer implied that Tannehill would be good for years. That is merely your interpretation of what he said. When I pointed out that he never said Tannehill would be a good QB or a bad QB, you now try to explain his explanation by stating he used the word, BUT. Basically all he seemed to imply was that the Dolphins are looking to sign Tannehill to a new contract, so they obviously are not looking to find a new QB at this time. At no time did he state his personal opinion on whether he thinks Tannehill is or will be a good QB. His opinion is only that the Dolphin organization seems satisfied with Tannehill and by offering an extension, it would appear they are not interested in looking for a replacement at this time. I have no problem with that view simply because the only available QB I would have any interest in at this time replacing Tannehill would be Winston. I don't see any free agent QB's or any other college QB, beside Winston who would be better than Tannehill at this time. I think if the Dolphins fail to make the playoffs next year and a new head coach is hired. Tannehill's name will be much lower on this list next year and the writer will be telling us all that Tannehill had four years to show he should be the long term answer for the Dolphins and he failed to deliver. Right now I agree the Dolphins aren't in need of a new QB, but that could all change based on whether or not the Dolphins make the playoffs next year. I saw several QB's listed lower than Tannehill I would pick over him if I had the opportunity. BUT everyone is entitled to put out any list they want to and rank the QB's in any order they feel is appropriate. It all comes down to one persons opinion and everyone else is free to agree or disagree with this opinion.
