yeah, I needed a rebuild plus a top 10 pick and a top 20 pick. I just thought it would've been a tad easier to acquire both picks. I'm obviously not the only one working with a tough team. I just think the Colts present an image that they're easier to work with than the bottom barrel teams simply b/c they made the playoffs and have Luck, and from my experience, it's not true. This Indy team seems much more challenging than the crappy Buffalo one I had a couple years ago.

Not saying that there aren't inherent challenges that you faced with your team, just saying we all have them and no one else was complaining about the situation. I think UCF Finatic summed it up as bluntly yet articulately as I could've.

I enjoy the task of a challenge, too. Not sure I like the implication of otherwise. I did the rags to riches here two years in a row and frankly found that to be a much easier way to build a franchise to where it was no longer a challenge. Instead I saw a challenge in taking a good team that had reached its peak, couldn't get over the hump and trying to turn them into legitimate contenders. Like I said, we all have challenges to work with and different starting points; I'm not going to get into what my team presented but there were plenty of injured player on bad contracts that had to be moved, and I moved them. And if we're talking about difficulty of a task; your team beat mine in the playoffs last year, "crappy roster" and all. I guess that's the part of the argument I do not completely grasp.

Obviously all of us value different things in players, rosters, etc. ...That is what makes this league fun and interesting. We can all go back and forth on this, clearly. I'm just saying that I know several GMs would've been envious to take over the Colts because 1. There was an elite, cheap QB to work with, 2. Some cap flexibility and 3. Room for growth (which is to your point, something I never disagreed with, just not to the extent that you or Boik are implying).

Anyways, like I've said since the start of this, you've done what you should do with this team and have set yourself up nicely to finish strong.

i really don't think him selecting INDY 3rd in our GML draft automatically means he should concede they were a talented team. I think we all had a vision of who we wanted and why, is he going to far in rebuilding a team that went to the AFC title game?? That's debatable, but it's really too early to write him off.

I'll say this, if I had taken over that roster? I would've looked to upgrade the entire defense besides maybe 2-3 players and on offense I'd say about the same. Like Boik said, that division....could you place Andrew Luck on Tenn, Jax, or Hou and they win the division? I think so. Goes to show you how a great QB can elevate an entire team.

Stroll on over to the mains in this forum and you will find more than a couple people who think Andrew Luck couldn't have taken our Dolphins to the playoffs, they so funny.

All this has me thinking though, in my 5th or 6th season of this I have NEVER selected a team that had anything resembling a decent starting QB?? Maybe Shis can confirm, but Iam starting to wonder how different it would be if I did. Maybe next year.

I agree entirely with everything you said. My greater point, though, is don't pick a team that high and then publicly point out their inherent flaws. We all have issues different that we're dealing with and have plenty of frustrating moments. Just not a fan of complaining about it, at least until the very end lol.

I've always done the rags to riches and I agree its 100x easier. There are always inknown players you can flip for better ones on those teams. You usually have better cap space as well and draft picks.

This year Denver has been a challenge for me. I've had to take a lot of risks on highly talented guys I think can turn it around.

Ir feels impossible to take an old talented team and rebuild yjem into a young talented team on both sides. So on that aspect...I get where Todd is coming from.

On the Colts....I don't think their roster is very good. At the very least it isn't stacked like other championship caliber teams and I think that was exposed against NE. Plus their playoff schedule to that point was as easy as NFL playoff sched ules get.

He did choose them though so I hope he's having fun with the challenge.

Starting with a QB is a huge advantage. Hard to win this league without an elite one and the asking price is -- rightfully so -- expensive. Had to give up No. 2 overall pick for Brady a couple years ago, even more for Brees this year. Would feel weird to start with one.

Last year I sold my soul for Flacco and then flipped him for Dalton and some minor stuff.

I like Dalton more than most people.

I like Flacco, drafted him in the second round and traded a second round for him in 2013.

The highest I value a QB is a second rounder I guess.

I like Dalton, too. But the overall disdain for him when I was shopping him was shocking. You'd think he was Blaine Gabbert or something like that. Is he elite? No. But for $9 mil, he's a better deal and better player than about what half of the league will trot out.

I think all I'm going to be remembered for this season is taking that cap hit on Dez. Despite the fact I was given a team that started $14 million under the cap. Had 2 untradeable corners that even with June 1st cuts nailed me for $9 million in cap (and a kicker with a -$3.2 million cut charge). Several undrafted RFA's (means higher tenders) and a free agent list of 8 starters including virtually my entire line-backing core. People think I should have taken 31/32 and the cap room and gone for a Melvin. Well that would take both 31&32 to get in range. I preferred to have an already more established back who elevated the Packers rushing attack exponentially. And still have a nice pick in 34 (and a 4th) to work with. Sure it would have been nice to have that extra cap room for FA...but looking at my past I've done far better with bargains in FA then I did going after established players.

I think I have a nice very young roster with a few key older veterans in good spots (QB, Yanda on OL, Whitner in the secondary, Mincey on the DL). In trading I've improved my incoming talent over my outgoing talent and have had people literally tell me they wished they could take deals back. Truth is though I go into FA/Draft with only 5 starter holes to fill and then messing with some depth a bit. I got $15 million in cap and 3 picks in the top 60, 8 picks overall when comp picks happen which will most likely have me at 1,2,2, 4,4, 4C,4C,6. More then enough to work with and I will have this team with a solid balance on offense and defense when done.

He's not Manning/Rodgers/Brady/Luck but IMO there are a good 15-20 teams in the league who could do much worse. That whole Bengal team plays terrible in the playoffs from the line to the receivers to the backs as well. I'd say some of his problems are probably coaching related, Lewis is pretty bad.

My problem with Dalton is he is just not an accurate passer, that's something that rarely gets fixed with time. He's Brady Quinn with a better supporting cast imo.

I don't think you'll be remembered for that. Personally I'll judge based on the full picture, and I think others will too. Personally I didn't like the Dez trade...it seemed sort of directionless. Murray is a better back than Lacy IMO so if you'd have tagged him instead you could have saved the cap hit and had a better player.

However you've made a bunch of other moves I do like and I'm not going to hold moving Dez like that against you when thats only a small part of the picture. I know I've made some bad/odd moves this year as well so I'm not going to act high and mighty
