Cam Erving is a first round talent. That size, the versatility. I think he likely plays guard at the next level. Also Collins can play LT based on how he looked in drills.
I wasn't really crazy about Erving at OT, but apparently he found a home (quickly ) at Center, which never would have even occurred to me. Anyway, he's been killing it at Center, is now rated as the best Center in the draft and that's where I would expect he stay in the pros. Cam Erving at Center, who woulda thunk it.
more than one NFL personnel person was gushing about Florida DE/OLB Dante Fowler who did look the part at Friday’s measuring in ceremonies. Fowler came in at 6-2.5 and 261 pounds with 34″ plus arms. The big test for Fowler, though, comes on Sunday during on-field testing where he has a chance to dispel concerns about his pure foot-speed and possibly lock up a spot in this year’s top 10. Meanwhile, LSU DE/OLB Danielle Hunter weighed in at a respectable 252 pounds after reportedly playing at closer to 240 last fall; for good measure, Hunter also showed up with 34″ plus arms. UCLA DE Owamagbe Odighizuwa also looked the part measuring in at 6-3, 267 with almost 34″ arms and huge 11″ hands. Among other notable DEs Nate Orchard of Utah came in about as expected as he weighed in at 6-3, 250, but with almost 34″ arms, while Mississippi State’s Preston Smith was arguably the best looking prototype 4-3 DE as he measured in at 6-5, 271 with 34.5″ arms and 10.5″ hands. And it was hard not to notice 6-7, 269 Norfolk State DE/OLB Lynden Trail who also had almost 35″ arms. http://gbnreport.com/combine-blog/
My man crush Nelson Agholor logs a 4.44 40 with a 1.53 10yd split. Too fast Nelson! Was worried about this. Ergh. Not sure he makes it to us in R2. *Add-on: Looks natural and smooth as hell in drills too, catching everything with extension, etc. Damn. Get this kid in aqua one way or another. *And why not:
I'm not as astute as many of you, but what are you guys thinking about Green-Beckham? Looks like the redzone guy we need with that size and good speed. Tell me what you guys know.
DeVante Parker's 4.45 was pretty good though, might be in play for us at 14 with Cooper and White likely gone by then.
2015 NFL Combine results: 40 times for wide receivers http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2015/2/21/8079839/2015-nfl-combine-results-40-yard-dash-wide-receiver
For me: 1- Kevin White 2- DGB 3- Amari Cooper 4- Jaelen Strong One of those will be available at 14 and the Dolphins need to pick one. Would not complain at all if they traded up for White. Beast player.
The problem with Nelson is he is likely to be limited to the slot. While everyone here loves Landry, I think he is a type of WR that only excels in the slot. So by taking Nelson you would "possibly" be upgrading a position that doesn't really need upgrading without helping the WR core as a whole (since Landry wouldn't be as effective outside). Hopefully this makes you feel better.
I would roll the dice with him with our first. I think he could easily be a Calvin Johnson type and would be a great outside WR for Tannehill. If you pass on him and he turns out great that is a pick you always hate yourself for not taking. If you pick him and he burns out then you just shake your head and think about what could have been. I'd rather have the second form of regret, but then again I'm not in the interview rooms to see how they interview. I think the biggest telling thing about DGB is how he acted at Oklahoma. Reports were that we would have stayed had they kept their WR coach, that is a big, big green flag for me. Shows signs of someone who has matured a bit and has cleaned up his act some.
Parker couldnt catch **** today... If Smith or Cooper are somehow there for us, and we pass.... I quit... again.
Devin Smith? If so, he' absolutely going to be there at #14, and even being a Buckeye homer I don't want to use that pick on him.
This is the type of person people should want on their team. Not someone that grabs a woman by the neck and throws her down the stairs.
Don't sleep on Kenny Bell.. He had a good day. Jaelen Strong and Kenny Bell ran better than I thought they would today. So did the top 3 guys.
Kenny Bell surprised me today. I knew he was explosive, but I didn't know he was that explosive. Based off all the games I saw...my only concern is his want to. It seemed that the last two years would be 'oh I made a decent play...I should totally tap on my helmet and sub out'. If he can't make it as a WR, he has a good future as a return man somewhere
I have Kevin White and Cooper at the top of my WR board and everybody else a step down. My favs in the next group are Strong and Smith. I think Parker plays slowly at least before he catches the ball.
I'm starting to think we're either picking Trae Waynes at 14 or going to try to trade down to the end of the first and get a WR like Jaelen Strong, Nelson Agholor or DeVante Parker... I don't think queasy Joe would be willing to gamble on DGB.
Among more prominent offensive linemen, Jake Fisher of Oregon also had a great week as the 6-6, 306-pounder ran the 40 in 5.01 seconds with a quick 1.75 second split; he also had a 32-inch plus vertical while posting one of the fastest short shuttle times for an offensive lineman ever. Indeed, Fisher’s SS time of 4.33 seconds was almost two tenths faster than another lineman in Indianapolis this week. And while Fisher played RT at Oregon, there is just a hint of a buzz that he might get a try on the left side at the next level. There were also some left tackle whispers for SEC OTs La’el Collins of LSU and D.J. Humphries of Florida. Collins, of course, played LT for the Tigers, but concerns about his overall athleticism and lateral agility reportedly had many NFL teams thinking his best fit at the next level would be inside at OG. Collins, though, ran a solid 40 in 5.12, while his short shuttle was among the top figures for the position. Collins also really excelled in positional drills where he showed consistently light feet. However, there is still the issue of those 33 inch arms for Collins, who also didn’t have a very good bench press (just 21 reps) although his functional football strength has never really been doubted by pro scouts. Meanwhile, Humphries has NFL teams headed back to the tapes as he showed nice athleticism and agility all day; more important for Humphries he weighed in at 307 pounds in Indianapolis after reportedly playing at an undersized 280-285 this season. And even though he had a decent 26 reps in the bench press, NFL teams are still concerned about whether he has the strength and technical consistency to sustain blocks in the pros. At the sae time, FSU C/T Cam Erving also had a solid workout to cement his status as the top C. http://gbnreport.com/combine-blog/
Mark Glowinski from WVU has me intrigued from an athletic number standpoint. I watched some tape of him while I was watching Kevin White and I was intrigued. Would be a nice mid to late round prospect.
Can you ever just have a positive post on the player being mentioned without slamming another so badly? Why are you so angry lately..my goodness..it's not like any of this affects your livelihood or their pay comes out of your pocket. I am a lifelong DOLFAN since 1966 KB so I will stand behind my team through thick or thin....YES, even Cautious Joe unfortunately. You are very valuable to the site usually guy...you bring allot of valuable information...stay positive for today.
Erving plays Center, GUARD, and LT. Would be a great pickup for us especially because of his versatility and he plays all 3 positions pretty well and we need someone that plays Center good if we choose not to sign Pouncey to his second contract. Also he could possibly fill in for Albert if he is not ready week one although I have no idea why Turner was not brought in to play LT last year after Albert was hurt. Anyways he would give us another good versatile OL...just not in round #1 though.
Yes I think so buy I like Franklin in FA better than Iupatti only because Iupatti is not a good pass blocker and Franklin does both well. I am hoping for an offensive playmaker at 14.. how about you?
D. Think improved D and we are in the playoffs. I really like Waynes and anxious to see what he does, but Jalen Collins and Darby looked good as well. Definitely would be happy w/ Shelton as well. I love Gordon as a player and person, but think we have stronger needs elsewhere.
They just said Waynes gave up 2 TD's in 2 years. Played boundary last year when Dennard was there, but played open side this year. Impressive.
Waynes is a hard guy not to want at our pick if he is there. Stud corners are never a bad thing. Him across from Grimes plus if Taylor can keep getting better, we may be able to let Grimes let walk next year to help with our cap space. Right now I'd say my 1st round wish list goes Shelton, Waynes, then DGB (because I think Parker, White and Cooper will all be gone). Any of the three would add to a need but also would be 3 of the BPA at that pick I think.
It's tempting to just take Trae Waynes at 14 if he's there, because this year's WR class is so deep that you can probably pick up a good one in R2. But at the same time, what if he's not there? Do you trade a 3rd rounder to move up for him? Tough call. Comes back to what you could get done in free agency. If Brandon Flowers is pricing himself out then the options are kind of mean at that position. And Flowers isn't exactly a homerun either. You could argue you're better off just asking Finnegan to take a pay cut.
