Well, that works for me. Music to me ears.

Apparently the game is about 60% complete, though percentages are always a bit confusing when it comes to video games. It looks absolutely amazing. We can only hope that the 13 series games were a bad dream and things are back on track for Square.

I have waited for this game for 8 years. Ironically it was the reason why I bought a ps3.

Te wait for 13 was the longest in the franchise history and.....well, it didn't deliver. Let's hope the wait for this one is worth it. Looking much more like it is.

I've mentioned in other threads how FF12 was such a favorite of mine, and gave me such high hopes for the future of the franchise. That was 8.5 years ago now, and those hopes certainly haven't been fufilled, by Square or anyone else. However, things are absolutely getting better after SKyrim and DA:I. If Square is actually taking cues from those games while giving it the FF soul, it will be a contender for my favorite game in a long, long time.

That looks really cool man. I bookmarked the page, and I'll keep an eye on it. I really hope that the game gets made.

I'd say the wait for an FF7 remake is the longest.

Well, I believe that you yourself told me thats unlikely to ever happen. Too bad. Printing money for them if they did.

Yeah, I don't expect it to happen, at least not for a while. An FF7 remake would basically be like developing a modern AAA game. That's a huge resource drain and it also means FF15 and whatever other AAA games they're working on would have less market impact. Would you get more excited for FF7 remake or FF15? Most people would say FF7 remake.

Well, though I'm a dedicated FF Fan, having been playing the series for more than 25 years now, I'm not a FF7 fanatic like so many are. Don't get me wrong, I loved the game. Upgraded from the SNES to the PS1 for it. But if they could remake ANY FF game at PS4 quality, I'd go with FF3 (US numbering) as my choice. Such an awesome game, and I'd love to see it reimagined using today's tech.

That all being said, I'm still looking forward to 15 based on what I've read moreso. Crossing my fingers that its what they're saying it is.

I think FF6 is pretty overrated… and, yes, I played it on the SNES back when it was FF3.

I'd rather have a Dragon Quest VIII remake over any FF game.

never played any of the FF games. always wanted to but felt like it was too late to break into them. Do you think its worth going back and playing some of the earlier versions or just jump right into the new one when it comes out?

Either way should be fine. Outside of direct sequels they aren't related really.

I think all of them are good games (some obviously much better than others) still, just for some you need to look past how the graphics have aged (mostly the ps1 games).

A lot of the games seem to be available on Steam.

I'd say that the original on the NES has aged more than the PS1 games!

As he said though, the games aren't generally connected other than style. The one thats out of place in the evolution of the series is 9, the last one on the PS1. X/X2 are available in a HD remake for the PS3, and will be on the PS4 later this year. Its done well and doesn't look awful on the big screen.

Interesting look at the crazy and long development history of the game now known as FF15. One of my favorite parts is a list of what's happened since the game's announcement in 2006.

The game was first detailed the month I got married. My 9th anniversary is coming up, lol. Better late than never!

    Now that's a summon!

I'm increasingly optimistic that this game is going to pick up where 12 left off as a "spiritual successor" and continuation of the track that the series was on, so many years later. Everything I see is gold.

Only played the first mission so far an it is pretty good so far. Not sure what to compare it too.

I will say that I am not a fan of the camera though. Maybe they can patch it and make it less jerky/sensitive.

From disappointing (13), especially after such a long wait, to depressing and bad (13-2), to making me pissed off at them for putting out such crap (Lightning returns).

If merely the things that have been said about the broad structure of 15 are true, its a huge step in the right direction.

I can't criticize them for Lightning Returns. It wasn't great, but they took deliberate measures to respond to criticism and try to make a more appealing game. The real problem is that Motomu Toriyama's games aren't very good, IMO, but at least they listened.

I'm optimistic about FF15 since it's finally out of Nomura's development hell hands. Hajime Tabata actually ships games.

Quick update for this project. The project is fully funded, and Yasunori Mitsuda will be doing the soundtrack. There is 10 hours to go, and little more than 5k from the next stretch goal: additional playable characters.

So it's fair to say the FF15 demo had a good reception. There seems to be some positive buzz around the FF series for the first time in years. Another HD remake of FFX and X-2 is coming to the PS4 later this year, and there are some rumors of an FF12 HD remake coming as well.

    It's about damn time.

I will buy a 12 remake the day it comes out (in spite of my normal objections to double buying a game I'm looking at on my shelf right now). At least I already have the guide :shifty:

Odds are the prospective HD remake would be based on the International Zodiac Job System version. Once a character joins, you assign them a job, and they cannot change it for the rest of the game. Your guide will be totally useless.

Very Interesting. A cool twist too. From what I understand in reading that article (though I could be way off), I could still likely use a lot of the characters in a similar manner that I did in my original playthrough, since they apparently retain certain skills regardless. It would add some definate strategy. The hardest part for me would be not having as many characters with the ability to use the best white magic. If true, it would mean I'd likely keep which ever one did in my party at all times, which is not the way I played before, jumping people in and out.

Regardless, the guide would still likely apply for areas and enemies/bosses, right? And side quests and the like. I poured time into the game way back (fall of 2006), but didn't do everything it had to offer in that regard.

not sure about the boy band vibe the group gives but the game itself sounds pretty interesting and the visuals look great. if it comes out for PC this could be the first final fantasy i have bought since 12.

I'm pretty sure the bosses have been rebalanced to fit with the job system. The game can't be unbeatable just because you made certain job choices. Again, I'd toss that guide out if indeed the FF12 remake a. exists and b. uses IZJS.

Probably won't come out on PC for a long time after console release. Based on the ports of FF13 and 13-2, S-E has a long way to go to making good PC games.

Where's a good starting point for someone who has never played the series? Also, I don't have access to 6th generation consoles and earlier.

FFX-X2 remasters? The FF7 remake seems really far off and it looks like FF12 is getting a remaster as well.

Its a hard question, as I've been there from day one on the NES. For the most part, the series was a gradual evolution, and while the stories rarely overlapped, the feel and sense of the game was gradually moving in one direction.

    Starting with FF7 & 8 on the PS1 would be good. (I'd skip 9).
X and X2 share a universe on the PS2. 12 was at the VERY end of the PS2 lifespan and is my favorite.
13 is ok on the PS3. Its sequals suck.

Yes, the FFX and X-2 remaster is your best bet right now. Actually, you can skip X-2, it's sort of an insult to X.

The Final Fantasy IV remake is also a great starting point. It's on Steam for a few bucks, and the system requirements are ludicrously low—it will run on any computer released in the last 10 years, basically.

Avoid 13 and its 2 direct sequels at all cost.

I also recommend giving Final Fantasy Tactics a whirl. Available on Android and iOS for a few bucks. Arguably the best game in the series.

Thanks guys. I went ahead and bought the FF X remaster and I'm really enjoying it thus far.

Quick question though: is it normal to feel a bit overwhelmed with the sphere grid? I'm getting used to it the more I use it but I feel as if it was explained rather poorly in the game.

As my memory holds, the sphere grid was somewhat overwhelming for me the first time that I played, what 14 years ago or so. Much easier last year, even after not touching the series since 2004. The grid itself is an evolution of the leveling system that the franchise started using in FF7. Each game is different, but each built upon the prior ones too.

The sphere grid looks more complicated than it actually is. For all characters, it's basically a linear path with predetermined stat growth. You can literally only move in one direction along the sphere grid with each character, so just drop in your points and let it do its thing.

Later in the game, some characters will be able to cross over to other characters' regions of the sphere grid, but it's still basically a linear path.
