The name atop the Dolphins board ranking free agents is the same name atop most teams' board: Ndamukong Suh. There have been whispers the Dolphins were going to make a run at him for a while, and ESPN's Mark Dominik said Atlanta, Jacksonville and the Dolphins are thre three teams poised to recruit him. The NFL Network's Gregg Rosenthal listed Oakland, Detroit, Jacksonville, Chicago, Indianapolis and the Dolphins as the teams with a shot at him. So the Dolphins can be expected to be in the mix. We'll see where it goes. One key asset might just be team owner Steve Ross, as you'll see. http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/...nik-links-dolphins-to-suh-20150302-story.html
Raiders have a ton of cap space. might be hard to beat out their offer if they are serious about signing Suh.
always possible. but if the raiders offer him a 100 million dollar contract, that might be hard to turn down. I know a lot of us are hoping that he'll get a contract similar to what McCoy got, and if he does we could certainly be a contender for him. But given that he's the top FA this year and the best player at his position, I think he's going to break through with a massive contract similar to the ridiculous one that Haynesworth got when he switched teams.
$100M from the Raiders is like an $80M from the Dolphins when you factor in state taxes vs no state taxes. It all comes down to if Suh just wants to get payed, or if he wants to get payed AND set a record contract for his position. If the former, Dolphins have the advantage to give him a lower contract vs Raiders and still have Suh making the same money. If the latter, Dolphins are screwed.
If we sign him, I look forward to him being a "cap casualty" in 3 years. Ladies and Gentlemen, your Miami Football Dolphins....
I'd rather someone else overpay this clown. He is good, but 31 teams will not have him, and I'd prefer Miami to be one of them.
I'm not sure that allocating that percentage of a team's cap to one player is associated with success, when that player isn't a QB.
That might be the most intriguing news. Why? Well, our last two big FA signings were also in Miami and never left. B. Albert and M. Wallace. If there is one thing I can say we do well is if we want someone we don't wait they are usually signed and delivered by 2nd day of FA. I do believe the state tax will play a huge part into his decision, but there are three teams in this state. 1. Jags - have the $$$ and an aggressive HC... IMO farthest from winning tho 2. Bucs - have more $$$ than us, a defesive minded HC who coached against Suh, and #1 pick brining in a heralded QB, still coming off worst record in league, paying a lot for McCoy already 3. Phins - gaining $$$, most established team in the state (not saying much), best QB situation, and major need at DT. Also were selling the city of Miami might as well send them on vacation.
Suh is about as far from a clown as you can get. He is a very serious and intelligent young man; he just happens to be ferocious as well. Could use a little more discipline on the field.
I think the defense could use some of the nasty he would bring...although, we could do without his foolish antics, like stomping on people.
The only problem that most people are seriously OVERLOOKING is that Free Agency has not even started yet. If Suh(who probably like millions of others who like a)warm weather or b)who have family in the area or c)even use Ft Lauderdale Airport as a place to connect to another flight) never leaves Miami...some might consider it jumping the gun or even tampering. Lets wait till the process even begins before we start following planes and have everyone trying to break news first before every other reporter or fan on twitter
Man I just don't know. Would love the talent, but can't support his antics. And Coyle would probably drop him back in coverage.
This guy is in the top 3 most disruptive players on Defense in the NFL. Would love to snag him. Would hate to overpay another FA (see: Wallace, Mike). Would love to watch him stomp Tom Brady's balls.
I remember that Manning was also linked to the Dolphins prior to the opening of the free agency period three years ago. Once free agency started, the Dolphins quickly became an also ran in the Manning sweepstakes. Suh is the biggest talent to become a free agent since Manning and I just don't see him ending up as a Dolphin. The Dolphins may have an interest in Suh, but it will be a huge surprise to me if Suh has any interest in a team with a lame duck head coach and an organization which has been second tier for well over a decade. There are better teams with legitimate chances of winning the SB who will surely be better suited for a player of Suh's ability.I still believe the Colts should do whatever is necessary to sign Suh. He could be the one missing piece on the Colts defense which is needed to get them into the SB next season.
He was not seriously linked by anyone paying attention. Of the teams reported to have an interest, there was one of them with like double the cap room of the others. That was Denver. Coincidence? I don't think so. They were not only the most able to afford Manning, they went out and signed several other players too.
Suh has said a few times he's going to the highest bidder. In all likeliness he's going to a team worse off than us, not better. Ie:jags, bucs, raiders
If we're serious, we're not going to sign both Odrick and Suh are we? At some point, where's the money?
cap creativity, and an awareness of the incoming party that this can't just be about being paid the most, he has to understand that he has to be flexible if he truly wants to win, if he isn't about that then maybe he's not the guy you want.
Randy Starks can be cut to save $5M off the cap, and he will certainly get cut if they can sign both Odrick and Suh. Heck, Earl Mitchell can also be cut to save $4.5M if they feel strongly for one of the backups, or maybe sign someone else cheaper.
Well Ellerbe is likely gone. He saves $5.6M if cut straight up, $8.4M if post-june cut. Wheeler is a bit more complicated and likely to not be cut because of it.
Yeah, but to sign Suh, it's gotta be before June 1st. Well, what's done is done, but Ireland still makes me mad with those two especially.
Why would be sign suh at this point? Great player I get that, but this team is well beyond 1 player to get to the playoffs. We have a ton of holes to fill and spending all that cash on one postion while needed isn't our biggest concern bothers me.. We could get 4-5 players at needed positions for his salary.
I understand your concern, but I would consider these options: release Starks, resign Odrick $35M (Odrick and Mitchell) OR Release Starks, Sign Suh $50M (Suh and Mitchel) Given those choices, which would you prefer?
Not a huge fan of his attitude but i get a hard on for the thought of a "Wakesuhoon" destroying Brady
we always say that as Miami fans, but I don't buy it and I can't remember many instances where it made a difference in offering FA's money. Yes, obviously there's a difference without the state taxes, but it's not 20 million. plus human nature is to look at the extra digit in the contract offer and assume it's just bigger. Then if you throw a team like New York Giants into the equation (since they are now interested) you also have to factor in potential money for being in the biggest TV market in the country and any endorsements that might come with it.
I may not be comfortable with so much money going toward one player. Especially with all the needs the team has. I wouldn't be too happy or too upset if this happened. He would make an impact that is for sure though.
