Glad to see Wheeler/Ellerbe amongst the upcoming releases. Wipe the slate clean and move on. But, we have to learn from that. Do NOT believe overspending for LB's is essential for defensive success. Look at Jenkins an ideal 4th round find who is developing. We HAVE in house options to fill the need at SLB. I'm not opposed to shedding Misi if need be and upgrading MLB through "smart" FA find or draft. IF we add Suh (cautiously optimistic), an ILB will feast, and we need someone who can come up and stop the run. Foster wouldn't be bad in FA but I'd much rather take a look at upgrading CB/OG via FA after DT. Shedding Ellerbe and Wheeler creates added cap space and addition by subtraction. Truthfully, I think staff's plan is to move Misi to SLB and upgrade ILB. Ehhh..... don't think it will be an open competition. I'd like to see Jordan or McCain given a shot at SLB. That would be a scary Front 7. Wake - Suh - Mitchell - Vernon Dion
Ideally, Stephone Anthony is there in the 2nd round and we take him after taking a WR/CB in the draft. Unfortunately, we don't live in an ideal world and Anthony is flying up drafts boards as he should. He will be an impact player and starter in this league for a while. Likely goes early 2nd round and it wouldn't really surprise me if he went late 1st to a team like Green Bay.
Now that it looks like we'll snag Suh, I would definitely follow your WR/CB - ILB pattern. I too would love to select S.Anthony in the second & imo at least 2 ILBs will go before him. So there's a chance.
Anyone of Kendricks, McKinney and Anthony is a win for me but I prefer Anthony over the rest. I like Perryman and the kid from TCU (Dawson) but I value them more in the late 2nd-early 3rd. Dawson is gonna be a steal for someone after his bad combine.
Kendricks will have to be at #14 or possibly a trade down but he goes top 20. McKinney could go anywhere from mid first to early 2nd. The hope is one falls to 2nd.
Sorry for the double post. Doubt they fall to us in the 2nd round which is why Anthony is my target. Like him a little more than Perryman but would be happy with either.
Dolphins working out two Clemson defensive prospects "Anthony had dinner with the Dolphins last night and is working out for them today, Draft Insider’s Tony Pauline reported. He was initially projected as a second or third round prospect but could climb his way to the first round depending on how he performs in team workouts." http://dailydolphin.blog.palmbeachpost.com/2015/03/11/dolphins-working-out-two-clemson-defensive-prospects/
Anthony makes a lot of sense with what we're looking for. Keep in mind, Anthony was a leader and captain at Clemson which Hickey very much likes. We'll see if Tannembaum agrees. Would be great behind Suh cleaning up plays. I just don't see him being there in the 2nd round.
