Really doesn't matter if Philbin should get a second year due to the turnover or not. From a bean counting and season ticket perspective, and Ross shelling out that kind of cash for these players, I'm sure he won't tolerate another mediocre season. At least I hope not. And if he does, like I said, better invest in those tarps. He'll need them.

Don't worry even if we win the Super Bowl he will continue to hate him.

My problem with Ross isn't that he doesn't want to put a winner on the field. He is certainly willing to spend the money to sign the big name free agents and he is also willing to fund the renovations to the stadium.

I have no doubt he would spend any amount of money needed to put a winning team on the field. The problem is that every team has the same amount of money to spend on salaries each year, no matter how much money the owner might have.

So the most important responsibility of the owner is to hire the best coaches, GM, and other front office personnel to get the best from the talent on the field.

This is is where I have a problem with Ross over his first six years as the Dolphins owner. He stuck with Ireland far longer than he should have. While I give him credit for going after Harbaugh, his inability to hire him eventually led to a wasted year with Sparano still the head coach and the eventual hiring of what I consider a very mediocre head coach in Philbin.

As much as many on here praise the job Hickey did last year. The fact is that his draft picks and free agent signings did not help the Dolphins improve the teams record from the previous year.

All I have to judge Ross on is the teams record over the six years he has been the majority owner. That record is zero winning seasons and a sub 500 record over that time period. So my view is that based on his time as the Dolphins owner so far, he has not been an effective owner if the purpose of owning a professional football team is to put a winning product on the field, which it is.

Perhaps things will change in the future and Ross will make the rights hires to turn this into a winning team. Until then, the won-loss record clearly shows he has been a failure so far as an NFL owner.

I agree with you on everything except the criticism of Hickey. It's not realistic to expect Hickey to improve the team's winning percentage after a single offseason considering what he inherited from Ireland and having Philbin as HC. Plus it wasn't like we had a number one overall pick or anything. Being in the middle of the rankings can be worse than being at the bottom. Look at how long we've been stuck in the middle.
