That's pretty cool! He's still on his rookie contract. He will probably fill that deep threat role when and if Mike Wallace leaves after this season. Pretty fast guy.

I wonder what we traded though. How much did the Saints flip for a fifth-round (if memory serves me right) pick?

Edit: Not seeing this on Cote's twitter.

Don't be surprised if Wallace is cut after this, and the savings are used to sign Charles Clay.

I love this move. Young guy that is getting better and better. He is cheap right now too. I wonder how much we paid? I would guess a third probably, maybe 4th?

Would we really save that much, considering the cap hit we'd take? I want us to keep Wallace. He catches a lot of balls and we need to try to better utilize him, not jettison him.

A wideout that could stretch the field. I could see Wallace cut after this too. Hope not.

There is a good argument to keep him. Having him, Stills, Landry and Cameron gives us 4 big time players on offense and a couple of home run hitters too. If we can run the ball effectively we could have the best offense in the division and Tannehill could really put up some good numbers.

Now is the time to trade Wallace to keep Clay. Cutting seems a bit wasteful.

Cutting Wallace would save $2.6M this year alone.

I'd much rather have Charles Clay and the flexibility he offers. Stills can do what Wallace does. Wallace can't do what Clay does.

I can confirm @Rand_Getlin's report: Kenny Stills is being traded to the Miami Dolphins. Working to get compensation.

Honestly, no idea about Stills. Seems like the Saints are having a fire sale though...are they selling the stadium or something? :D

    Stills any good?

I'm reserving judgment until I see the compensation. Stills is still young and could develop into a very nice player, but I just can't ignore the fact he played in a dome with Drew Brees.

Curious about what they want for him...an apparently up and coming guy...they don't save a whole heck of a lot off their cap, which they need a lot of work on despite the house cleaning they've done... There is word that Brees in on the block as well... I'm not sure how it makes sense for them to dump Stills at this point ??

    But what do I know...

I would have bet anyone every penny I have that we'd never even go after Suh, no less actually sign him...

If they managed that with only a low draft pick, I rescind my overall A rating for the offseason and up it to A+.

EDIT: 3rd rounder eh? Well, that's a bit high, but still OK.. overall rating still an A.

Not a bad trade at all. Getting rid of Ellerbe is addition by subtraction.

Wow....that's a bit steep except that we get some cap room from it... I like the kid, he's almost a poor man's Wallace but a 3rd and Ellerbe...seems to be a win for them, unless this guy turns into our Antonio Brown...

Shows you how when you're swapping a player whose production is garbage in relation to his salary, for a player who is overproducing in relation to his salary, you have to throw in a pretty decent draft pick to pull it off.

What a fantastic job by MT to get Stills and a nice amount of cap space for basically a 3rd rounder. Now you use your June 1 designation that had Ellerbe's name all over it and as much as I hate to say it you use it on Mike Wallace. Now you have free'd up significant cap room THIS year and won't be strapped for next season.

This guy is starting to look like the answer to all our prayers, he will have flipped around every bad contract Jeffy gave out all while adding Suh, Cameron, McCain and Stills. Can you say Exec of the year?

You'll appreciate this: 12% of 3rd-round picks between 2004 and 2014 became consistent starters in the NFL.

    Nice!

I'm guessing Wallace is gone? Would help us free up some cap space... WR in the first is still a possibility if Wallace is gone, if not, might be 2nd round pick, if at all.

I never was in favor of taking a WR in the first round. Especially with bigger needs at LB, CB, safety, and offensive guard.
Now with the addition of a proven NFL WR in Stills, the need for another WR in the draft becomes less important and they can now turn their attention to filling the more pressing needs on the team.

Totally agree.. but one big contract remains: Wallace. Yes, it's not as bad as Wheeler/Ellerbe, but we overpay the guy for what he does for us.

if this means releasing wallace, signing clay and grabbing a WR early in the draft then i like it.
