Perhaps if your read my entire comment, you would understand that I realize the large salaries today are part of the process.

I also stated that I have no problem with players making as much money as they can during their playing careers. That includes Suh and the contract he recentl received from the Dolphins.

My comments about the salaries is sports is more my own view of sports being overvalued in comparison to other far more important occupations in our society.

I realize that this probably isn't the best forum to bring this issue up and therefore I apologize to you and the others I might have offended by raising this issue on this particular thread.

I agree with young and hungry. I also believe in a having a true #1 receiver, so i'd still want pay for one (provided I couldn't draft one and needed an alpha at the position)....but that would be if they FIT. Someone who doesn't have an attitude and makes an effort to finish plays. Especially when the ball is under thrown but still catch-able. No matter how old you should still be hungry... Get him, THEN surround him with the landrys and so on.

In relative terms that would make Wallaces contract the equivalent of a sandpaper condom.

I don't think you've offended anyone and it is a worthy discussion.

I think the key here is how do you define overvalued. What is the value of a player who helps his team win a game where 70,000+ people attend or watch, buy drinks, hot dogs, shirts, hats, etc?

The reality is these guys, if they're good, generate hundreds of millions of dollars of revenue for their teams and the league. Generally speaking, people make in direct proportion to the value(revenue) they bring in.

There is merit discussing whether a teacher should make 1/1000th of a football player. It's definitely worth discussing. At the end of the day, it all comes down to where people are willing to spend their money.

Yep, read option. Tannehill takes a front seven player out of the play. We could go 3 TE, and run very effectively, or motion into anything including a 5 wide look. Simms can catch too. Clay gives us great versatility in our scheme. Really hope they sign him.

As far as what I do for a living. I play golf and travel all the time while I sit around and watch my investments grow and see people like you go out and work for a living.

When I lived in South Florida, I spent well over $150,000 attending Dolphin home and away games over a 40 year period. So obviously I don't have a problem with the game of football.

This draft has a few guys I'd take at 14. Also trading wallace to the vikes specifically takes away one of the teams ahead of us who was also looking wr. I'm liking devante parkers size

It's fairly simple [piggybacking onto your post]. If your presence impacts more than just the position you're responsible for, if it elevates the performance/production of positions around you, then your worth increases at the rate that you're increasing the production around you, just as they themselves would be paid more for improving the production of their own position. But Suh's presence elevates all 10 other players around him to one degree or another, and he deserves to be paid for however much that collectively improved production is worth. So if he himself is worth $15 million/yr, for instance, and his added value to the other 10 defenders [and the DC for opening up further playcalling possibilities etc] is worth $5 million/yr, then you're paying him exactly what he's worth.

I was hoping to see Wallce here till next year when he was certainly gone for cap reasons. They made the move a year early, but now we hope that Stills can be 80% of what Wallace brought to the offense (deep threat/TD production). On the positive side, Stills must be able to adjust very well to deep balls, so that alone should allow a few more deep completions (Wallace was poor at tracking any throw not right on target).

I was concerned about all the money for Suh too, but I'm willing to look for the positive side of all these moves. The one I STILL struggle with? Keeping Philbin another year.

As far as parker goes, I like the others ahead of him A LOT more. He is kind of the drop off for me. Either way I'd be happy with White / Cooper in the first, but wouldn't be 'upset' with Parker.

Whether or not this particular deal is a value for the Fins based on the pure 'what we gave up for what we got', the fact is they had determined that they were going to rid themselves of Wallace... Quitting on the team, even if they seemingly patched things up after, is just not acceptable in today's NFL... I feel the same about Wallace as I did about Ricky Williams (and still do). The fact is they both 'quit' on the team...

That said, they feel like they got something for a guy that was overpriced and was going to be gotten rid of, one way or another... Shoot, one of the tweets from, I think, Armando (FWIW) said that Wallace spent over an hour on the phone with the Vikes and didn't want to be traded...Which means, as a way to get back at Tbaum and the Fins, he refused to renegotiate his contract with them. That would have meant a better return for us most likely, but that just spells out, to me, the attitude they needed to get rid of on this team...

Either way, they had predetermined to get rid of Wallace, it was just a matter of how...at least we got something in return and have a younger, cheaper replacement on the roster (Stills) albeit without Wallace's resume....

uhh, yeah, Im one of the biggest fans of the Suh move, and thats because I personally feel I can fill out a roster, and what The Suh dynamics can bring to a franchise.

I'm not sure what your complaining about, did you want all those Ireland boys to stay..wheeler, ellerber, Hartline, Gibson,, Colledge, Shelly smith, Wilson, are you not happy with cutting Odrick and Starks for Suh, are you not happy with resigning clay and adding Jordan, is stills not an upgrade over Hartline.?.. Did you not think Mike Thomas and Brice McCain will be an improvement over Wilson and whoever else we trotted out there for depth?

The key in this trade that people seem to be overlooking is that Wallace was grossly overpaid. Between bringing in Suh and keeping Tannehill, we need to free up some cap room. Not to mention if you want to keep guys like Pouncey and Vernon. This deal is about the overall picture. It's safe to say that we are probably a year away from being really good. It's hard damn work to clean up Jeff Ireland's ridiculous mess overnight, but I will tell you what, it's a good start. I'm not sure why so many people are freaking out over lack of weapons. Is Wallace THAT much better than Stills? I really don't think he is. Wallace is the typical player who got paid and is now spoiled and plays when he wants to. That is toxic. Stills is hungry and looking for that big contract. I won't be surprised if Stills has better numbers than Wallace next year. Another thing is Jarvis Landry. This kid is going to be a stud. He may not dominate games but he will catch TDs and will be VERY consistent. Reminds me of Cris Carter. He does not drop passes. Him and Odell Beckham are best friends and work on being the best. He's going to be huge. Cameron's concussions scare me, but he has ridiculous upside if he can stay on the field. If we sign Clay it's huge. He gives us that secret weapon which would be a huge matchup problem for opponents. My thoughts are that we hurried the Wallace trade along so that Clay wouldn't sign with Buffalo yet and we could show him that we are clearing space for him. It seemed to have worked since he still hasn't signed with them. It's a double whammy. We would love to have him back and we don't want Buffalo to get another weapon. You'd hate to overpay for Clay, but he gives us a dimension we really never have(if Cameron is healthy). Also, I wouldn't go for a receiver in the 1st round unless Cooper or White is available, which they prob won't be. If we can trade up to get one of them without giving up much it would be sweet but I think we are better off staying put and filling one of our other holes or even trading down and getting more picks. The WR crop in this draft is deeper than last year and we got Jarvis Landry at the end of the 2nd round last year. I would wait until the 5th or so to go WR and try to sign a vereran like Reggie Wayne to help with the youngsters. You can find wideouts. Need to focus more on OG, FS, LB, DT depth. Can Dion Jordan play LB? That would be nice. I think the main objective right now is signing Clay, bring in a veteran or big/physical WR via free agency and fill holes in draft. The people saying that this team isn't better than last year are nuts. It's the 1st week of free agency and they already did more than all last year! Long way to go. Obviously we will fill some holes with smaller priced guys that didn't get offered contracts who will just want to play. Gotta be patient. I know I'm all over the place, but these are pretty much all of my thoughts on the off season so far. I'm a diehard Phins fan and this is my first time posting on here but i went through the threads first. It's exciting to see what's going on. Ireland really dug us into a deep *** ditch and we are starting to some light. Also getting the OL back healthy is ginormous. Hopefully they can stay healthy. And as far as the Suh signing goes. This is not your typical free agent signing. This is a once in a lifetime talent who doesn't usually get to the market. I heard someone say it's the biggest free agent signing since Reggie White. Offenses draw up there schemes around him because he is a game changer. Hopefully he doesn't pull a Wallace(and many other guys) and pack it in because he has more money than anyone can ever spend, but he seems to be a bigger character guy. I mean the guy has an engineering degree from Nebraska, knowing he was gonna be the 1st round in the draft. He's a different cat. Think that pretty much covers it. The one thing we can all agree on is that this year is bananas so far! So much movement. Got rid of toxic players and contracts and freed up a ton of money which to me is the biggest thing. Will def be an interesting year. Can't wait for the draft! We actually have hope now that Ireland isn't there drafting Pat White in the 2nd round. Lets hope Clay comes back.

You are undervaluing Suh first of all. He's not just some "DT upgrade".

A player of Suh's caliber changes the effectiveness of the entire D. Literally, every player on D gets a boost in level.

Then we've upgraded the passing game by replacing the horrible Hartline and good Wallace with Top 5 talent Cameron and the good Stills. Then McCain with his hand tied behind his back is better than Wilson on his best day. Oh, and we still have money.

Start of next year vs end of last and current roster? I'm including resonable expectations of young player improvement: QB, LT, RT, C, TE1/TE2 (Counting Clay as he is tendered), WR2, DT1, DE2, CB2, CB3, OLB rest are same or lower.

Let's talk about which positions are downgraded, WR1, FS, and...?

Still have free agency and draft left.

Quit crying people. Mike Wallace's best days are behind him. I wouldn't be surprised if he starts fading out of the NFL soon after his stint with Minnesota. We got an appropriate price for a deep threat WR now, not to mention a guy who is only 22 years old and looking to play big for his big payday. Mike Wallace's route running are cringe worthy and i'm happy we showed him the door, he was very full of himself for a WR that wasn't even that good. That huge contract was the worst thing to happen to Mike Wallace's ego.

stills benefitted from being the 4th option in New Orleans, and seeing 4th option coverage.... Now he's a 1st option and will see top CB's and overtop safeties.... It's not really a like for like trade off with wallace to stills. It would have made more sense to cut/trade wallace next year when he would be a 1200+yd and 10+td wr... now our whole recieving core is all ? marks... can stills handle #1 cb treatment? will laundry hit the infamous sophomore slump? will cameron get a concussion? are hazel and mathews any good?

A lot of ifs... We are about to run a very spread out offense, especially if we re-sign Clay. Your Mike Wallace getting 1,200 yards statement was very laughable, as it was very unlikely as he isn't that good of a WR and CBs/teams have figured him out quite easily. Keep whining though.

I got an 'if' for ya.. 'IF' we make it to the SB next year, will you finally quit whining?

This is ridiculous. Who says Stills is our number 1? Who says we don't make a play for White or Cooper? Even if we don't, who says Stills is the #1? What if Stills actually ends up playing like a #1? What if he doesn't? Mike Wallace didn't play like a #1, and now we're paying a guy much, much less, to, at the very least, run fast down field, like Wallace could do.

Fin you're my dude but you have the Suh fever forreal.

Wallace, Hartline, Landry, Gibson, Matthews, Clay vs Stills, Landry, Cameron, Matthews, Hazel? No contest at this point. I like the cost cutting, it'll come in handy when we need to re-up Tannehill, Vernon, Pouncey etc but don't tell me the receiver core is stronger than it was last year.

I haven't seen much of McCain but I know that "good" DBs don't come as cheaply as he did. He's a nickel, or depth guy. We still need a #2 unless Taylor is ready to wear his big boy pants. Even with the cost cutting we're low on cap room, and when Suh's cap hit goes to 28 million next year...I see why we're shedding players even though it weakens the team.

Landry gonna be a stud. Reminds me of Cris Carter. Would you rather have Wallace or Landry? Stills and Landry are the opposite of Wallace. Young and hungry. They will bring in another veteran WR to help out the young guys. I wouldn't mind Reggie Wayne or Cecil Shorts. Don't reach in the draft for a WR unless you can get Cooper or White. This class is as deep or more than last year and that's saying a lot.

Replace Hazel with Clay who still is on our offer sheet, and yeah, I think its way better. Hartline sucked donkey balls. Gibson started sucking donkey balls. Wallace was solid, but so is Stills on paper.

    McCain is better than Wilson.

Taylor is our number 2 and he's actually decent to good.

The only players we shed worth a damn were Odrick, Starks & Wallace. We replaced Odrick with Suh (major upgrade), replaced Wallace with Still (maybe downgrade, but most likely a wash) and I'm not convinced we don't resign Starks.

Overall, when you factor in McCain over Wilson, we have improved our team on a net level.....and got some money yet.

LT, RT, C are guys coming back from injury. Actually, it's kinda strange to compare the team at the end of last bc of all the injuries. Sheppard, Trusnik, Wheeler started vs NE. Kovacs even got a start. We were pulling DBs off the street to play at Denver and NY. Grimes was the only DB or LB who didn't miss multiple games. But I'll play along.

Which positions are downgraded? All of them except for DT and TE, assuming Clay returns.

WR, minus Hartline, Gibson, Wallace, added Stills. Overall downgrade.

OL minus Colledge, Satele, Smith, added no one. Downgrade.

DB minus Finnegan, Wilson, Delmas, added McCain. Downgrade.

LB minus Ellerbe, Wheeler, Trusnik, Freeney, added no one. Downgrade.

QB minus Moore, added no one. Downgrade.

The depth on the the team has been decimated. Its pretty easy to see. I know some will say most of those guys weren't good anyway, which is true. But until they are replaced with better players then...

Free agency isn't done. We haven't even got to the draft. This is a pointless exercise on both sides. Heck two years ago we were in dire straits about cornerback and late in the offseason Miami signed Brent Grimes.

Why even worry about this at this point? This is an August conversation in March.
