my #1 desire this offseason. a solid starting guard to solidify the line. anyone know how he rated last season?
Per PFF he had 508 pass plays he was in the game for and gave up 1 sack 14 hits and 20 hurries with a -24 grade as a pass blocker. As a run blocker he graded out well. Personally I haven't watched him enough this past year to see how he actually played. Pats were a pass dominant team and teams knew it so it's kinda tough to really grade him. When players switch teams you also have to think about scheme fit and how the player would work for us. This being a finesse offense I think Connolly works if he still have enough mobility. New England for instance, doesn't run a lot of shotgun sweep plays like we do.
WTH!!! PFF's 72nd ranked OG last year. Dan Connolly started 10 games last year at LG and royally stank it up. What are people thinking?? How about we sign Dawan Landry away from the Jets?? Now here is a solid veteran coming off a great year that we could really use to fill a legitimate hole at safety next to Jones. Even if we decided to draft s safety or use one of our guys like Michael Thomas or Walt Aikens on 3rd and long to play center field, Landry would still be worth a two year 7-8 mil contract. If the Dolphins wanted to sign a starting LG, Clint Boling was available for a very reasonable price. Bengals got him back for waaayyy toooo cheap. I'm probably more disappointed about this issue than anything else this off season.. This was a no brainer IMO. He was a perfect fit, and not a peep of interest from our end.
Guard is a legitimate hole. Landry is a strong safety... not really a need. His game isn't suited to be switched to free safety at this stage. Look for Delmas to be brought back, as he helped recruit Suh to Miami. Hickey also indicated they will draft a safety at some point.
I find your attitude in this matter disturbing. You speak of the gaping hole at safety like it's minor thing and we can just throw anybody in there and it won't matter much. Why would Delmas be brought back? Because he is a fun guy to have around? Delmas was 51st in the league last year and he has a long history of severe durability issues. We gave him a one year prove it and he failed. Our run defense was bad last year and our CB group looks awful weak so far. A good run defending safety who could play some downs in the box or lay some intimidating hits in the secondary might be very beneficial. Ya, I would love to draft Eric Rowe to play FS but everyone knows how these coaches are with rookies.
