Of course there's the Indiana Jones theme, and Superman and Star Trek ... but my personal favorite is David Arnold's gorgeous theme for "Stargate." How about you?
Well, I'm a bit partial, but I'd have to go with The Imperial March (aka Vader's Theme) from Empire Strikes Back. I'll think about this some more and have some more ideas.
I also like the 'Gladiator' and 'Pirates of the Caribbean' themes. Kill Bill's theme was sweet but its EVERYWHERE now thanks to The Rza from Wu-Tang (created it)
Cant forget 'The Omen'. That may very well be the creepiest theme ever. Even creepier than 'The Exorcist' IMO.
Ahem http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aJmr5CKY73M&feature=related Although Eye of the Tiger might just beat it Yeah, never mind. Eye of the Tiger FTW http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6CUhK8AlXI&feature=related
My favorites: Braveheart: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ifr4aGA2o_A Lord of the Rings: (I actually love the complete soundtrack from the entire trilogy) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0pxpV4QJi4&feature=related Harry Potter: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJPVwoRzQlo
whatever Malick used in Bad Lands that was then re used in a late rtony Scott movie. Also the one from 1492... I dont love it but I remember it worked.
Last of the Mohicans had an amazing score. Soon my favorite will be, "THE GREATEST AMERICAN HERO". When that is finally a movie, it will be my favorite theme.
hmm..movie theme..thers so many..i liked the mst3k theme while most people probly only remember it as a series they did make a movie for it. smokey and the bandit, mash and while this may not be a theme i loved the "chew, chew, chew"part in the friday the 13th.
I'm a bit of a film score geek. I listen to them at work and they help me concentrate. Aside from Star Wars, here's some of my other favorite themes/scores: Braveheart - Some people criticize James Horner for using the same motifs as Last of the Mohicans. One of my favorite scores of all time. Gladiator - I'm not usually a big fan of Hans Zimmer's work, but this might be his best work. My second favorite Zimmer work is probably Last Samurai. Quigley Down Under - Underrated western score from Basil Poledoris for an underrated movie. Superman - The standard for all comic/superhero movie scores. Lord of the Rings - It's hard to top this score in it's completeness. Signs - Minimalist, but helps add to the overall creepiness of the film. Specific themes or motifs that bear mentioning include: - The Godfather - The Good, the Bad, and The Ugly - March of the Dead from Army of Darkness
That was Vangelis, he of "Chariots of Fire" fame. Which leads me to "BladeRunner" and "The Bounty," both of which were great.
I love the bond theme. When I heard it for the first time in the Quantam of Solace trailer, i got goosebumps.
Anything by John Williams, the master. I'm a major film score buff and no one comes close to John Williams.
Star Wars of course. Batman, as in the Tim Burton's film. I think Danny Elfman did the theme. I wasn't expecting TDK to match his but it was pretty close. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X4ydxgekFls I love The Godfather theme, in both Part 1 and 2. Its not much different in Part 2 but in the final scene its kind of slower and more creepy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0OKIQ16a7VE
It was Danny Elfman. Zimmer's take on Batman been pretty oft criticized among film score aficionados.
Long story short, a lot of people never really liked Zimmer using so much synth in his music and the fact that a lot of it isn't quite original (a lot of Media Ventures stuff can be heard in nearly every track). Here's an example of one review: http://www.filmtracks.com/titles/dark_knight.html But for every Zimmer detractor, there's also the other side: http://www.tracksounds.com/reviews/dark_knight_hans_zimmer_james_newton_howard.htm
Can't believe noone has mentioned the score to Conan the Barbarian by Basil Poledouris. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xhvd9twPEIo Absolutely incredible.
