Overview

When I walked into Chip Kelly's office after being hired as general manager, he looked at me and said he wanted me to do one thing - go get him Marcus Mariota. I initially balked at this proposition, as I felt we had a very good QB on the roster already in Nick Foles. Chip disagreed. We talked about what it would take to get it done. We briefly considered moving into the top 5 or top 10, but we felt like there was a good chance that Mariota would be off the board within the first couple of picks. Chip made the call that we would need to get to #1 overall to make it happen. He doesn't care about who everyone has ranked at #1 overall (I tend to agree with him), as he wanted his guy that could run his system. And thus began a two month quest that wrapped up earlier today with the Eagles officially selecting Mariota at #1 overall. This was the culmination of a lot of hard work between 3 teams - the 49ers, Jaguars, and Eagles. A shoutout to both of the GMs- this was a really fun trade that benefits all 3 teams. It's always tough for me to give up talent, but the thought of putting Mariota back into Chip Kelly's system just felt right. This was the one thing Chip asked me to get done for him, damn the cost, and we pulled it off. I'm not sure how, but we did.

Mariota will take over a retooled offense that is now borderline illegal. He can throw to Torrey Smith, Jeremy Maclin, Jordan Matthews, Devin Hester, Matt Forte, Fred Jackson, Darren Sproles, and Zach Ertz. We'll also run classic Kelly concepts using Forte, Jackson, Sproles, Hester, Chris Polk, and even LaMichael James out of the backfield (a guy that Chip felt hasn't quite put it together in the NFL quite yet - but don't worry, we've got a smoothie for that). We'll go big at times and use Forte along with Brent Celek and Ed Dickson. I'm leaving this talent in Chip's capable hands to do what he does best - go fast. Opposing defensive coordinators, you should be frightened. Good luck.

There's still plenty of work for us to do, but this is our signature move. We're stoked. Here's Chip.

Strengths / Weaknesses

Courtesy of CBS Sports.

STRENGTHS: Often lauded for his intelligence, humility and work ethic. Effortless arm strength to zip the ball up and down the field and his gazelle-like athleticism to out-run defenders.
Does an excellent job of dancing his way out of pressure while keeping his eyes downfield. Quick release and flashes deadly accuracy, including when on the move. Very strong arm and isn't afraid to make challenging throws through tight windows. Shows good touch to loft passes over defenders down the seam or to backs and receivers on quick swing passes.

Puts extreme pressure on the defense because of his scrambling ability. He offers rare straight-line speed, making him a legitimate threat for a big play via his arms or legs on every snap.

WEAKNESSES: The Ducks' innovative offense simplifies QB decisions and this is roughly the same scheme Mariota played in high school. As such, some of the basics like taking the ball from under center and scanning downfield while dropping back are skills Mariota hasn't been asked to master yet.

Overly reliant on his first read, and occasionally commits the cardinal sin of throwing late across his body. Accuracy can be an issue, as Mariota misses too many open receivers, including high-percentage underneath passes.

COMPARES TO: Colin Kaepernick, 49ers -- Inconsistent accuracy is one of several reasons why Mariota most closely resemblesKaepernick among current NFL quarterbacks. Because of their extraordinary acceleration, each is a true dual-threat. Further, both adept at sliding laterally to create wider throwing lanes and using their velocity to zip passes through them. Neither Kaepernick nor Mariota, however, consistently throw their receivers open, only sporadically providing teammates run-after-the-catch opportunities.

QB Winston

As a prospect from a pure football perspective and ignoring the off-the-field issues, Winston is elite and in Andrew Luck's ballpark as a quarterback prospect. Winston is a potential franchise quarterback who can lead his team to championships. Numerous sources from multiple teams agree that Winston is just a little bit behind Luck, but is a better prospect than Cam Newton, Sam Bradford or Matthew Stafford were when they came out and went No. 1 overall.

With the 6th pick, the Clemson Tigers select... I mean the Indianapolis Colts select..... defensive playmaker extraordinaire Vic Beasley. With Luck & Co running up the scoreboard, Indy hopes to squash any attempt to play catch-up with the pass-rush addition of Beasley to Julius Peppers, Jonathan Newsome, and a strong Cover-3 secondary that features one of the game's best but underrated cover safeties, George Iloka, who limited opposing QBs to a pedestrian 42.1 Passer Rating and 0 TDs. Add in 1st Team All Pro ILB Bobby Wagner and his Seattle teammate Malcolm Smith who excels in coverage, and it's gonna be a long day for opposing QBs. :)

Vic is now on the trade block for kicks & giggles for those of you picking in the top 10-15.

OVERVIEW:
Earlier in the offseason, the New England Patriots parted ways with longtime nose tackle Vince Wilfork due to age and contract demands. The decision seemed easier to make knowing that their #1 target, Danny Shelton, would likely be available at their first round selection. Shelton may not outrun very many people however he can eat up a lot of space and take on multiple blockers. Only a handful of players at the 2015 NFL Combine were able to beat Shelton's 225 pound bench rep total of 34, which showcases his strength and endurance. If you look at his tape, you'll see that Shelton is simply in a league of his own. The Patriots currently have a fearsome front seven and Danny Shelton is the final piece of the puzzle. With pass rushers such as Cameron Wake, Chandler Jones, and Pernell McPhee to go along with their outstanding linebackers in Kiko Alonso, Dont'a Hightower, and Jamie Collins, the Patriots' selection just makes sense. Shelton will start as the team's nose tackle in both 4-3 and 3-4 schemes as you'll likely see Earl Mitchell and Dominque Easley rotate in with Pernell McPhee sprinkled in all over the place. It's safe to say that any offense should be trembling with what's about to hit them.

STRENGTHS:
• Built like a Coke machine and he's just as tough to move.
• Natural wide-body with thick thighs that help him anchor, even against double-teams.
• Surprisingly coordinated and flexible despite his square-ish frame, frequently splitting double-teams to wreak havoc at the line of scrimmage, including blocking three kicks.
• Possesses a powerful bull-rush to walk centers deep into the pocket and slides off blocks easily to grab hold ballcarriers nearby.
• Shelton is surprisingly light on his feet and plays with terrific effort in pursuit, rushing to the sidelines and downfield against the run and pass.
• He locates the football quickly and has a legitimate short-area burst to close.
• Good strength for the pull down tackle and generates impressive momentum to collide with ballcarriers.
• He shows good awareness as a pass rusher, frequently leaping in an attempt to knock down passes at the line of scrimmage when unable to get to the quarterback (though he recorded just three PBUs during his UW career).
WEAKNESSES:
• Not the pass rusher that his statistics indicate, showing little more than a standard bull-rush.
• Rarely incorporates spins or even swim moves into his repertoire.
• Pad level rises as he tires and he can get knocked off the line of scrimmage when double-teamers coordinate their efforts and don't allow Shelton to split them.
• Needs to show greater awareness of cut blocks.
• Tackle numbers are inflated by his hustling in pursuit.
• Weight needs to be held in check.
NOTES:
• State champion in the shot put as a high school senior (60'1").
• Three-year starter who played in every game of his collegiate career and has no known injury issues.
• Takes his academics seriously.
• Was named an Academic All-American in 2014, Washington's first since 1991.
• Named to the Academic All-Pac-12 squad as a junior.
• Compares to Vince Wilfork, New England Patriots.

With the 8th Overall Pick in the 2015 GM League NFL Draft....the Jacksonville Jaguars select Dante Fowler, LB Florida.

At 6ft 3inches and 261 Lbs, Florida Gator Dante Fowler has the athletic build needed to play every Sunday in the NFL. An explosive rusher from the edge, he has an electric first step combined with an NFL ready spin move. Elite short area quickness with plus awareness will make him a defensive matchup nightmare NFL Offensive Coordinators will have to game plan for every Sunday. What really sets Fowler apart though is his relentless motor and desire to attack. Hes a warrior able to fight off blocks using his hands. What makes Fowler unique for the Jaguars is his versatility. He can rush from both a two and three point stance, drop back into coverage, and seal off the outside edge.

He displays light feet and liquid fluidity, sometimes hiding his powerful compact body.

Overview

Played in 36 games over three seasons with Spartans, starting 27. Selected as first-team All-Big Ten in 2014. Was a semifinalist for the Thorpe Award (top defensive back). Was defensive recipient of MSU's Jim Adams Award (unsung hero). As a junior in 2014, had three interceptions and eight pass breakups and finished sixth on the team with 46 tackles. In 2013, started all 13 games at cornerback and earned MSU's Tommy Love Award (most improved player, defense). Played nine games as a redshirt freshman in 2012. First-team all-state as a senior at Bradford High School in Kenosha, Wis., despite missing three games with knee and leg injuries. Recorded the fastest 40 time (4.37 seconds) at the 2010 Midwest Ultimate 100 Camp. Also starred in baseball and track in high school; was indoor track champion in the 60- and 20-yard dashes.

Pro Day Results

20-yard short shuttle: 4.19 seconds
Analysis
Strengths
Good length. Loves to compete in man-to-man and is mentally tough. Asked to play on an island and did so successfully. Allowed just two touchdowns over last two seasons. Bump-and-run specialist. Fastest cornerback at the NFL Scouting Combine with a 4.31 40-yard dash, showing off his recovery speed to make up for separation. Maintains feel for vertical threats and uses his frame to pin wideouts against sideline. Excels in deep, man coverage and can be smothering. Acceleration and length to contest any throw on the field. Well-coached and plays with proper leverage in coverage. Can be intimidating and disruptive against finesse receivers. Drives forward with burst and runs through targets, jarring balls loose. Wrap-up tackler who understands his responsibility against the run.

Weaknesses
"Grab, grab, grab!" Transition to a less hands-on cover style will take time. Would grab opposing wide receivers at top of route at times rather than trusting length and ball skills. Penalized nine times over last two seasons. Tight through hips and tends to play upright. Struggles to mirror and match against quickness. Hips and feet get clumsy in transition. Allows brief separation window at the top of short and intermediate routes. Fails to sink hips to stop, causing balance issues. Sometimes plays with blinders on and anticipation is below average. Slow to process combinations.

Sources Tell Us
"I didn't think anyone had a better combine than (Trae Waynes). He was faster than I thought and looked great in the drills. He's the top corner and I don't think it's close." -- NFC director of personnel

Bottom Line
He's a bump-and-run cornerback with the length, deep speed and confidence to handle himself down the field against speed. Waynes plays too handsy for NFL officials and that could show up on Sundays. His 4.31 40, smooth hips and overall fluidity displayed at the combine could make him a much earlier pick in the draft than previously projected. Waynes carries a very high ceiling.

With the 11th pick the Minnesota Vikings select DE Shane Ray, Missouri. While strongly considering another prospect, we are excited to select Ray who we feel is the Best Player Available and also happened to fill the team’s biggest need.

Ray projects to play either 4-3 DE or 3-4 OLB. This reigning SEC Defensive Player of the Year is an explosive athlete with a quick and ferocious first step. With Griffen and Coples as are current bookends and Floyd and Joseph in the middle, we are stout against the run. We envision Ray as a chess piece that we can move around, with his main responsibility being to cause havoc. On 3rd down we will have the ability to move Coples inside and form a scary pass rush line of Ray-Floyd-Coples-Griffen, with Barr lurking around.

The Washington Redskins are in a strictly Best Pick Available Mode. Needing impact players in many different locations they chose to go wtih the unsexy position that has stunted the growth of key personnel on their team. Brandon has already set up an appointment with the Social Security Administration to get his name changed to Bad *** MoFo and Devourer of Planets.

With the 13th pick in the 2015 GML Draft, the New Orleans Saints select:

Dorial Green-Beckham, WR, Missouri

Off the field issues or not, Dorial Green-Beckham has the talent to be a top 5 receiver in the NFL. He has been highly touted ever since he committed to Missouri as the #1 highschool player in the nation. The Saints will look to utilize Green-Beckham right away opposite side of Kenny Stills. Don't overlook this selection for the Saints, as GM WakeUpItsFootball has the reputation of drafting star receivers from the last two drafts (2013: Kennan Allen, 2014: (Machs league) Odell Beckham Jr.)

With the 15[SUP]th[/SUP] pick in the GML draft, the New York Jets select:

Todd Gurley, RB, Georgia

Height:
6’1” Weight: 232 lbs. Experience: Junior
Surprised? Don’t be. This young man is a top ten talent before his injury and in today’s NFL an ACL issue is not the end of the world. Gurley’s timetable has him set to go by training camp and it’s clear that he is working hard to get back into All-Pro caliber form for the upcoming NFL season. In three seasons at Athens, he played in 30 games, starting 27 of them, and gained a total of 3,285 rushing yards and 36 rushing touchdowns. Not just on the ground, Gurley is a threat in the passing game, recording 65 receptions for 615 yards and 6 touchdowns. That’s not all; in 11 career kickoff returns, Gurley averages 38.4 yards per return with 2 touchdowns. We will not rush him back from injury and when he his healthy, we will mix in carries for Pierre Thomas and Robert Turbin to keep Gurley fresh. But when he is 100% he is a beastly back that can take the load off of Peyton Manning and our passing game.

STRENGTHS:
Built for the NFL with a muscle-bound, physical frame and naturally lowers his pads and squares his shoulders to attack the line of scrimmage and bounce off defenders. He runs with natural balance, power and momentum that makes him tough to slow down, rarely conceding with the first tackler.
Reads the first line of attack very well and senses daylight to hit holes with authority and quickness to stick-and-go, accelerating extremely well in his cuts. Knows how to shift his weight extremely well for a 232-pounder and strings together moves with devastating jump cuts and long strides to eat up yards.
Soft, natural hands out of the backfield and is a willing, cognizant blocker in pass protection.

WEAKNESSES:
Bit taller than ideal. Torn ACL in November of 2014 a big red flag that will cause pause for NFL teams with a timetable for return around mid-August. Also missed three games in 2013 due to an ankle injury, so durability concerns are significant, especially considering the physical punishment he has absorbed in the SEC over the past three seasons.

COMPARES TO
: Marshawn Lynch, Seahawks -- Like Lynch, Gurley is best known for simply bowling over defenders, but each back's success is also a testament to good vision, surprisingly light feet and balance to bounce off would-be tacklers.

Houston Texans select withthe 16th pick in the 2015 Draft:

Alvin “Bud” Dupree, DE/OLB - Kentucky

School:Kentucky | Position: DE/OLB | Experience: Senior | Height: 6-4 | Weight: 269lbs
Overview: Despite spending the past few seasons as one of the best defensive playersin the SEC, Dupree went under the radar playing at Kentucky. He is a big, fast, edge rusher who can be a force on the edge.He wasa team captain in 2014, finishing his senior season with 7.5 sacks and 23.5 forhis career, which was the most by any active SEC player. He was much moredisruptive than the numbers illustrate, and his sack production was hurt bygoing against eight read-option offenses. He finished second on the team intackles with 74, including 12.5 tackles for loss. Was a quarterfinalist for theLOTT Trophy, given to a student-athlete that embodies integrity, maturity, performance, academics, community and tenacity.

Dupree became anevery-down player in 2012 and had an impressive debut. The sophomore totaled 91tackles with 12.5 tackles for a loss, 6.5 sacks and a pass batted. Dupreestayed consistent in his production as a junior with 61 tackles, nine tacklesfor a loss, two forced fumbles, one pass broken up and seven sacks.

For the NFL,Dupree has the speed and strength to be a tough battle for offensive tackles.Dupree would be a star of the all-looks team with his body type. As apass-rusher, he can burn tackles with a speed rush yet also is strong enough tofight them off with his hands. Dupree can shed blocks and win with a bull rushas well. He could use more refinement with his pass-rushing moves, but he has the potential to be a double-digit sack producer as a pro. Dupree is also a good run-defender. He is strong at the point of attack and is able to maintain his gap. Further more, Dupree pursues well and has a good motor.

Strengths: Freakish athlete with chiseled frame. Posted incredible 42-inch vertical leap and 4.56 40 at the combine while weighing 269 pounds. Outstanding power with ability to rag-doll tight ends at will. Should be an above average edge-setter. Good transition from playing run to rushing quarterback inplay-action. Explosive closing burst. Willing thumper when he has a shot on running back. Can drop into space and play zone. Raw, but learning with huge growth potential as a player. Has strength at the point to be a physical edge-setter. Scouts give him plus grade for character.

Weaknesses Tall but not long. Wins with athleticism over skill at this point. Some scouts believe his instincts are below average, leading to hesitation. Will get caught taking bad angles to the ball. Needs to improve hand fighting. Still rawrushing the passer. Doesn't possess a go-to pass-rush move. Appears to lack urgency in-game.

NFL Comparison: Jamie Collins

BottomLine:Dupree is an explosive, powerful athlete with a background in basketball. Whilehe's been productive at Kentucky, his tape doesn't always do his potentialjustice. He must continue to improve as a pass rusher, but his traits areundeniable. Difference between being good and great might be his coordinator

RPG’s Notes: We are excited to add Dupree as an edge-rusher, the Texans will look to play Dupree opposite Trent Cole at OLB but he may also be brought in to play DE opposite JJ Watt on passing downs to allow Romeo Crennell to bring Brooks Reed in at OLB and allow his defense to what they do best and get after the QB!

We have a trade...

With the 19th pick, the Detroit Lions select...

Marcus Peters, CB, Washington

The CB position was probably the only weakness on our defense heading into the draft and we feel like that is no longer the case as we land arguably the best corner in the draft in Marcus Peters. We felt pretty good about being able to land a player we liked at 23, but when we got the opportunity to move up and get Peters for only a 5th and a 7th, we couldn't pass that opportunity up. The ONLY reason this guy isn't going to be drafted in the top 10 is because of some off the field problems he had in college that led to his dismissal from the University of Washington. We met with Marcus, though, and feel he has learned from his mistakes and is ready for stardom in the NFL. And if you look at his tape, you see that stardom is well within his reach. Just look at how he shut down the man who was just drafted ahead of him and you get a glimpse into what kind of a player Marcus Peters is. He's big, physical, he can cover, he can tackle, he has a nose for the football, and he's chalk full of emotion. We love that here in Detroit and can't wait to get him on the football field with Suh, Fairley, Mosley, Levy, Dumvervil, Quinn and company.

Owamagbe Odighizuwa, OLB/DE, UCLA!

This pick came down to adding a player to further help solidify the defense. We chose to go with a guy who we think can grow into a better pass rusher outside, while immediately stepping in and contributing in other ways whether it be run support, blitz packages, and/or ST units.

The medicals involved with Diggy certainly give one pause, but at this point in the draft we're comfortable taking that risk on a high character guy who has the chance to really be special and help us on our way to another championship.

OVERVIEW:
Started all 13 games in 2014 and ranked second in total tackles by a defensive lineman. Missed two games due to ankle injury. Finished season with 16 quarterback pressures, 2.5 sacks and 4.5 tackles for losses. In 2013, started five games and recorded his first full career sack against Nicholls State in the first game of the season. In 2012, one of four true freshmen to get playing time in all 13 games. Joined the men’s basketball team after football was finished, but was redshirted. Was a standout on offensive and defensive lines in high school and was selected to U.S. Army All-American game. Armstead’s father played basketball at Sacramento State and his brother, Armond, played football at USC and for one season with the Patriots.

STRENGTHS:
• Improved by leaps and bounds from 2013 to 2014. Elite size with ability to add more bulk to his frame. Quick-twitch athlete. Explodes upfield into blockers with good pad level and hip snap, gaining instant leverage against the run and often jarring them into the backfield. Gets good arm extension to control offensive linemen and peppers them with powerful hands. Can unlock quickly from blocks. Has above-average tackle radius thanks to his length and quickness.

WEAKNESSES:

• Power-based pass rush with very little production to show for it over his time at Oregon. Plays tall as pass rusher and doesn't use his hands to gain consistent advantages. Has no reliable counter moves when rush stalls. Gets caught up in whipping man in front of him rather than making the ball carrier his focus. Will win against an offensive lineman, but doesn't put himself into position to finish.

Scouts say:
• "I see the power in his hands and all of his tools, but I don't see the production or the consistent push that I feel like I should see from him. He could end up being a monster, but you have to understand that what you get right now is just a big athlete with some upside." -- Pac-12 area scout

• Compares to Calais Campbell

BOTTOM LINE:
Projection-based prospect with elite size and the traits to become a dominant run-stuffing defensive end in an odd front. Armstead has the explosiveness off the snap and in his jarring punch to gain early advantages and control offensive linemen. Armstead is a fast riser but is still very raw. He will need patience and coaching and must become a more effective pass rusher at some point.

With the 30th pick in the draft, the Chicago Bears select Hroniss Grasu, center, Oregon

Player overview, credit to CBS Sports

STRENGTHS: Sports a pro-ready NFL frame with good weight distribution. He generally plays with very good initial quickness. Shows impressive lateral agility and balance to recover. He plays low to the ground and locks out well, showing good functional strength absorb the bull rush. He's an ideal match in Oregon's zone-blocking offense due to his agility when blocking on the move. Grasu is quick to get to the second level and can adjust to hit and sustain against a moving target.

WEAKNESSES: Can be caught flat-footed, on occasion. Can be guilty of trying to do too much when he senses a blitz up the middle, trying (sometimes in vane) to slow two defenders, rather than stoning one of them and relying on teammates. Grasu has a bad habit of dropping his head on contact (which provides defenders an easy swim move over the top. Underwent surgery on his left leg in November, 2014 that ended the regular season of his senior campaign prematurely. The surgery, though characterized as "minor" will require an NFL check-up.

COMPARES TO: Max Unger, C, Seahawks -- like the other former Duck, Grasu relies on athleticism and technique rather than power.
-Rob Rang
[h=3]Player Overview[/h]The Los Angeles native was a two-way starter at Crespi High School and a first-team all-state selection as a sophomore. By the time he was a senior, Grasu was a stalwart on an offensive line paving the way for 1,958 rushing yards.

Like many Oregon recruits, Grasu wasn't highly coveted by all the major programs. A three-star recruit by ESPN.com, Grasu was valued by the Ducks for his athleticism.

He rewarded the Ducks' faith, starting the next 50 consecutive games before a left leg injury that required "minor" surgery knocked him out of the starting lineup late in his senior season. Perhaps not surprisingly, Grasu made it back in time to compete in the Rose Bowl and national championship to end his collegiate career.
Grasu does not offer the bulk or power every NFL team is looking for. His athleticism, awareness and dependability, however, could warrant top 100 consideration by clubs looking for a plug-and-play option in a zone-blocking scheme.

With the 31st pick, the Seattle Seahawks select DT Malcolm Brown, University of Texas

Going with the high value here. Jordan Hill needs a nice compliment inside and Brown can contribute in all areas with his versatility. Or -elite- versatility :shifty:

Needing to replace key assets at the receiver position, the Redskins choose to go with one of two targets they had highly ranked in hopes of picking up both in this same round. Breshad, the bigger of the two targets was first on the board, and the second of the receivers was taken merely picks after this one. Breshad blends an excellent combination of size and speed into a lethal package.

With the 34th pick in the 2015 GML Draft, the Washington Redskins select:

Breshad Perriman, WR, Central Florida

With the 35th pick in the 2015 GML draft, the Green Bay Packers select:

Tackle from Oregon, Jake Fisher.

6 foot 6. 306 pounds. 33 3/4 arm length. 10 3/8 hands. Green and Yellow already in his wardrobe

Blessed with incredible quickness off the line (#1 in the combine in the 10 yard time), superior feet, wonderful athleticism (#1 in vertical for an offensive linemen) and all the intangibles, Jake Fisher is the perfect fit for the Green Bay Packer offense. It's no secret we lost Bulaga, the only loss from our stellar offensive line, after we chose not to over pay him. Even though we brought in Ryan Harris, very capable of starting, we wanted a longer term solution to keep our prized possession Aaron Rodgers upright and healthy. Jake will play right tackle immediately.

He comes from a winning program, having only lost one game during his starting tenure. He'll be a perfect compliment to our reviving screen game. We looked at two other prospects with this pick but the value (we feel he's a first round value) who also fills a need was just too much to pass up.
