Really excited to get up and draft Marcus Peters. There's a chance he would have been there at 23, and I liked my options there, but this deal was too good to pass up to go up and get him, so I had to pull the trigger. Lots of people talk about Doriel Green-Beckham being a guy that if you take the off the field issues away, he'd be a top pick and I have argued there are some issues on tape that might make me disagree with that statement (not that he doesn't have immense upside). I think you could absolutely make that statement about Marcus Peters based off of his tape, though. The more I watch, the more I love this guy. And he filled a huge need for us as well. It was a little frantic for a minute there as I logged on with like 5 mins left on the pick, accepted the trade with a minute, and had to rush to make the pick, lol.
#11 - Vikings [A-] - Vikings really needed to grab a DE, I figured it would be Dupree because of his versatility but Ray is pretty explosive just really raw. Vikings select Shane Ray. #12 - Redskins [A+] - A lot of people knock Scherff that he is a guard at the next level but he can play LT in the NFL, don't be fooled by what draftniks say. Skins were lacking big time on the line so getting a future star on the line in Scherff at 12 was great. Skins select Brandon Scherff #13 - Saints [B+] - Hard to know if Scherff was even on the Saints radar but Saints definitely need a presence out wide and DGB gives them that size they need. I'm not as high on DGB like some but he compliments the WR core nicely. Saints select Dorian Green-Beckham #14 - Colts [A-] - I really wanted to see Jaelen Strong here for Andrew Luck because he would be a match up nightmare for opposing defenses but settling for Parker is fine. They are pretty close in talent but it's all about preference. Colts select DeVante Parker. #15 - Jets [B-] - Right position wrong player. Gurley has some major durability concerns and his running style makes me think he can't be a full-time starter. Gordon has a great all-around skill set and really the talent is there. If Gurley holds up it's a great pick but I don't think he can. Jets select Todd Gurley.
Big difference. Leaf didn't want to be great. You could also say where's Randy Moss when you need him...
Gordon was never a consideration. Mark my words everyone; without that big Wisconsin O-Line, Gordon will look very, very average ala Montee Ball.
Espn article evaluation if I ever heard one. That OL isn't nearly as good as in years past, it's just the cool thing to say when discussing sports. Infact if you go back and watch some games you will notice Gurley had much more room to run than Gordon, but don't let that cloud what you heard on the radio. Even then, Melvin has the luxury of being drafted by a team with studs across the board and all young. So even if you believe the OL theory? I guess he will continue to benefit from everyone else but himself.
Oh yeah I didn't know Gordon tore his knee and battled ankle injuries. Meanwhile Gordon didn't miss any time at Wisconsin. What exactly was backwards?
Lol I think that Wisconsin churns out effective backs with gaudy numbers like spread systems churn out effective QBs with gaudy numbers. I think Gordon will be ok in the NFL, but I can 3-4 other backs having better NFL careers than him. Gurley's health is a risk, that is agiven, but the talent there is too much to pass up. I don't believe in Gordon and I wouldn't select him in Round 1 or 2 frankly.
I think Gordon is a very good playee, but I think Gurley has the speed/power combination to be one of the best RBs to come out in a while. The way Gurley accelerates and the top speed to pull away for a RB his size is impressive.
Which one you think will actually be good. Montee Gordon (yeah I did that)...sorry theres just not a lot i like there. Gurley on the other hand...next Marshawn Lynch. Absolute stud. On the other hand theres a half dozen backs this year I like more then Gordon.
Not really the same player. Gordon much more explosive and athlete than Ball ever was. The really only thing they have in common is how much they carried the ball at Wisconsin and Ball had a much better Oline than Gordon.
Gurley will also never start all 16 games in every season he is in. Just too much gamble at 15. Gurley isn't that much better than Gordon. edit- I'll rate at 25, lol
That's why you are playing a GM game on a message board. They both are good RBs, but you are reading too much into the cliche....it's pretty much hands down Georgia had the best OL in the SEC. Wisconsin, didn't even have the best OL in the Big Ten. If you really think Melvin Gordon is a product of a system then im not sure you watched many Wisconsin games.
I never said Gurley wasn't good I just think injuries will hold him back. If Gurley never tore his knee he'd be a top 10 pick easy.
We're both playing GM games on a message board lol And I'm not insinuating that I'm Ozzie Newsome or something but I personally think Gurley will be the better back in the league. I am entitled to it like you are entitled to yours. And when the season comes around, we'll see who's right. At that point, I'd be willing to eat my words, I just hope you are too
Says the guy who didnt want to trade down to 26 because "then Id actually have to do research". Your words, not mine. Doesnt matter who picked him, Im not a fan. I dont see anything special about him.
Considering there is exactly 1 TE who will start from day 1 in this draft I agree. Needed it for my 2 TE offense. Amaro and Williams with Crockett Gilmore backing up...I like it.
