LMAO! Dude, calm your ****....its a joke about your infamous thread. Bob Evans is having a chicken and waffle deal....it expires at noon. Hurry up ya hear?!
Don't know why I'm about to bother with this... Read the rest of the post you're butthurt over. The rest of the post quantifies what I'm saying. I'm clearly saying as a stat, 4th quarter comeback victories is not a QB stat, and that the stat should be modified since the defense can lose a game after the QB "wins" it. You'd also realize, if you thought about it instead of just emotionally reacting to it, that Marino's numbers would be even better if we changed the stat, because there were times his defense let him down in the final minutes while he was helpless on the bench. Also, he wasn't the best ever. Manning has surpassed him.
Potential injury, for one. The end result of your argument would preclude anyone from signing a lesser contract instead of gambling on the future. That clearly happens all the time from the NFL to the average joe winning a lottery, so I'm not sure what you want here.
Your views of Ryan Tannehill are stunningly absurd and brutal. That said, that hamburger line made me laugh out loud.
No, we do know that Denver & GB were not his fault and by his actions should have been fourth quarter wins. We know he was done for the day with the victory. As I've said though, 4th quarter wins are not a QB stat.
If Ryan Tannehill tore his ACL tomorrow, and missed the entire season, would you be in favor of Miami letting him walk if he wanted a top-5 contract? Which young NFL QBs are signing extensions before their fifth year? There is almost no risk for a guy that isn't under any threat of being arrested, suspended, etc, other than a decline in play.
I don't agree. I think a QB like Ryan Tannehill on the open market would get a top-5 salary, even if he is coming off a serious injury. The demand for QBs is too high.
Also consider that the NFL salary cap next season will see a very large increase, which means Ryan Tannehill as a FA would get even more money.
That's probably the reason a long term deal hasn't been reached. Team is weighing against risks. Tannehill's people are weighing against open market and QB demand. The more time passes, and assuming Tannehill does not regress but improves, the more the leverage will swing from the team to Tannehill.
You're all full of **** with this Brady comparison. It's obvious that the only valid Tannehill comparison is with that of Xenu, dictator of the Galactic Confederacy, who 75 million years ago brought billions of his people to Earth in a DC-8 like spacecraft, stacked them around volcanoes, and killed them with hydrogen bombs. We can only assume you thetans going against the sacred and esoteric teachings of Scientology with such false comparisons with false gods of the likes of Brady or Belichick know not what you speak of. See what touchdowns, yards, or playoffs mean whence you weep and gnash teeth at the foot of a volcano, hydrogen bomb overhead, whistling as it grows ever closer.
The effect of an injury would be very small. It would be like 8 teams in a bidding war instead of 10 teams. A 36 year old Peyton Manning got $100M coming off a spinal injury that seriously affected his throwing ability. The only way an injury could affect the FA market for a QB is if it is a severe injury that affects that arm. Even then, there would still be teams lining up.
I don't think the team's leverage will swing. The team has two main points of leverage that they can use: 1. Players around Tannehill 2. Franchise tag
... if Ryan Tannehill were to hit the open market, he would likely get $22M+/yr. There is no way he is going to accept an extension now giving him ~$15M/yr.
Familiarity with players and offense and franchise tag are certainly two good points and two good weapons on the side of the Dolphins in a negotiation table. However, I insist, the more time passes and assuming Tannehill continues his upward trend, the more leverage Tannehill will have to say "I see your familiarity with players and offense; I see your franchise tag threat; but THIS is what I would get in the open market if I choose to not sign. Match it or no deal" Franchise tag is also a double edge sword for the team because of how little flexibility it gives the team salary cap wise.
Right, which is why there is no chance Ryan Tannehill is accepting an extension for ~$15M/yr. The only way a deal is happning this offseason is if it makes him top-3 at his position.
All "4th quarter comeback" refers to is an offensive scoring drive in the 4th quarter when the team is behind. There are so many variables there, you can't seriously tell me we can disambiguate the role of the QB. It doesn't even necessarily refer to the last offensive drive. Just any offensive scoring drive in the 4th. So, what Tannehill did in the 4th quarters of the Denver and GB games before he put us ahead in the 4th is part of that stat. So no we don't know.
The comparison Fin D posted shows how important oline, pocket presence, and the ability to read a defense quickly is. The big difference in Brady and Tannehill's production last year was sacks and sack yardage lost (slightly smaller difference is TD% and INT%). Brady was only .2 better in yards per attempt. Throw in TDs and INTs and it goes up .6. Not a huge difference considering how long Brady's been playing. But when you add in sacks the difference jumps to 1.18. Part of the sacks are certainly on Tannehill. There's definitely some skill in not getting sacked and Brady is pretty good at it, probably regardless of oline quality. But I think most of us would agree that if you switched their teams, Brady would have probably got sacked more last year on the Fins and Tannehill less with the Pats. So yeah, Tannehill has things that he can keep improving. But he's become a pretty good QB, even if he isn't producing at Brady or Rodgers level (actually Brady isn't at Rodgers level, so...).
Well the team still has plenty of leverage at this point. Tannehill is still under team control for 2 more seasons, 3 if like you pointed out they elect to use the franchise tag. A lot can happen in that span that a secured long term deal would cover, even if it is for less money now as opposed to later. The team is still in a position to say, we control you for up to 3 more years, but as of right now, you haven't shown us you're worth more than XX. That amount of leverage however goes down by each passing month from here on if Tannehill's development continues on course.
I said injury could affect how much he's paid. You agreed, by saying it would change things. You also agreed that career ending injuries could effect things as well. And again, that was just one factor that could dictate why he'd take a deal early. There are others. Like guaranteed money right now vs. gambling on more later. Hometown discount. No income tax. Feels its a distraction and just wants it over with. etc. You keep operating form the standpoint that every player's goal is to make the most money on paper over the longest amount of time as if its a chart with a steady and consistent up arrow.
Do you think having Tom Brady as our QB last season would have kept the defense from giving up 30+ five different times? Do think Brady could sustain the consistent hits that Tannehill takes? Brady would probably would have gotten us a couple more wins, but I attribute that largely to his experience.
Brady and RT threw a few eerily similar TD passes last year that immediately come to mind. The Pats caught 'em...the Dolphins didn't. Those dropped TD passes in the first Buffalo game are etched in my memory...
He has PMS like many of the older fans...everybody but Marino sucks. I remember the mistakes Danny made along with the stellar play...some dont. I guess the rings he got when we were favored to win the Super Bowl overshadow all that...
Too damn long, cannot understand why some people would have us start looking again instead of keeping Tannehill, unless I read these comments wrong.
There's nowhere to look at the moment. Probably not next year either. Just look at the "cream of the crop" in this year's draft for proof of that.
LMAO This thread is about whether it's a good idea to lock him up now or wait 1 season to evaluate him over a larger body of work before deciding his worth.
Says the guy that claims I cherry picked stats, which were actually the QB's season line copied straight from ESPN.
