Breakfast with Joe Philbin. Tweets coming.

Joe Philbin offseason been "productive" and "active." Grind in free agency done. Now into draft. Players return in 3 1/2 weeks.

JP on Suh: "We felt we had to get better on defense. In evaluating diff. methods, it's not common player like Suh comes available."

JP on Suh: "Going to impact our ability to stop the run."

JP on Suh: "He'd be an outstanding player anywhere but the scheme we employ we knew it was a fit."

JP on Suh's incidents: "Some of those happened a long time ago. What we're focused is contribution, leadership. He's at different stage."

One of Suh's incidents happened last season at the end of the season. Joe asked about that ... seemed surprised.

JP said he's talked about Suh being in offseason program. "We'll see how things go." Suh rarely attended in Detroit.

JP on AFC East: "It's going to be a very, very competitive division. It's going to be fun."

JP says Kenny Stills will be a good scheme fit. Said Stills caught ball high percentage of time -- targets to catches.

JP on contract extension: "I'm grateful to Steve Ross for his support. Steve's been very loyal, very supportive. Means a lot."

JP says it's going to be adjustment year for Ryan Tannehill -- a function of working with new guys. "Hopefully it won't be too painful

JP on Tannehill: "He's our quarterback."

JP: "The good news is he's getting better. He's gotten better every year. We think there's more room for development."

JP on OG spot: "I wouldn't rule anything out. With that said, Dallas played 300 snaps at G, 300 at T, there's a future for Dallas Thomas."

JP says he likes the future of both Dallas Thomas and Billy Turner.

Yup, they're going to count on those guys. I'm fine with Turner. Thomas NOT FINE. NOT.

JP on retaining Kevin Coyle: We looked at things on paper, on tape, based on 3 year body of work. Not 5-6 game slide at end.

JP on Coyle: "We had a number of different discussions. I like our defensive staff. We have things must do better. At end of day best thing"

JP on development of youngsters: "We have to get guys to step up. That's a coaches job to develop players."

JP on defense at end of yr.: "We need to simplify. Simplify personnel. We had too many combinations. Take advantage of strength

JP on plan for Dion Jordan: "We're going to utilize him as DE. Improve and develop his pass rush ability."

Jordan's days as a OLB are numbered as the plan currently stands. Team wants him to rush the passer and improve on that.

JP says Sims developed nicely but room for better. Thomas played well but can become a solid starter? Bill Turner, Tripp, Fede, Hazel, too.

JP says Cameron Wake still played hard and fast at the end of the year. Counter to perception.

JP says Koa Misi is still the MLB "as of right now."

JP says Jordan Cameron taller than Clay and down the middle might be better and catch radius is larger. "Jordan has a real good route tree."

JP said Louis Delmas "looks good, really progressing well." Optimistic he's going to make full and "quick recovery," it seems.

Billy Turner at RG, Dallas Thomas at LG at this time.

JP says Billy Turner at RG because he likes how he looks in his stance better that way than left hand stance.

That's it for Joe Philbin's breakfast interview. I had scrambled eggs, bacon, taters.

(Updating as they come in, will post the new lines to bump the thread but will update this post to contain all. latest in bold)

    DONE.

LINK to Salguero's own blog summary of the Breakfast.

For comparison's sake/balance I've decided to add Omar Kelly's tweets on this same breakfast:

"Been productive, active. The coaching staff and personnel department is working hard together evaluating guys," Joe Philbin said.

Joe Philbin said the players will be back at the Davie facility in three weeks.

"It's not common that a player with his talent, ability and production becomes available," Philbin on Ndamukong Suh.

"He's going to be able to stop the run and push the pocket. He's also a pass rusher," Philbin on Suh. "He's an excellent scheme fit."

"I'm comfortable right now and looking forward to working with him," Philbin said about Suh's dirty player reputation.

"The unique thing that's different about pro free agency is you don't meet these guys until the deal is complete"Philbin said of signing Suh

Joe Philbin knowns Ndamukong Suh's strength coach personally and talked to him before Miami pursued Suh.

Joe Philbin said "he knows how important the offseason program is and we've had great attendance over the year" regarding Suh's attendance.

"I'm grateful to Steve Ross and his support," Joe Philbin on the extension. "Since the day I've been here Steve's been loyal & supportive."

Joe Philbin said Jordan Cameron will help the Dolphins attack the middle of the field more. "He's got big skill."

"We're excited about Ryan [Tannehill]. He's out quarterback. The good news is he's gotten better every year," Joe Philbin said.

Joe Philbin said for the Dolphins to get better at throwing the deep ball the offensive line needs to improve the protection.

Joe Philbin said the team's pass protection has been a problem for the past two years. He knows Tannehill's been NFL's most sacked QB.

Joe Philbin said Billy Turner's injury set him back a month and then when he came back he wasn't "rip roaring" in practice.

"Defensively with Kevin [Coyle] I took some time at the end of the season and looked at things in a lot of ways," Philbin said.

Joe Philbin said Kevin Coyle was retained because of a 3 year body of work. He wasn't pleased with the way last 6 game were played.

"For two and a half seasons over a 3 year period we were 10th in NFL in scoring defense," Philbin said of Coyle."Best for us moving forward"

Joe Philbin said he expects the coaching staff on offense "will have a chance to develop" & take the next step from a production standpoint

"A coaches job is to develop players. We've got to have guys step up," Joe Philbin said about the youth movement.

Joe Philbin said the plan right now is to continue to develop Dion Jordan as a pass rusher. Not moving him to linebacker.

Joe Philbin said Branden Albert is determined to be ready for the season opener, and he wouldn't be surprised if he was cleared to play.

Joe Philbin said the challenge for the defense moving forward is to simplify the defense. Said Kevin Coyle had too many packages.

Dolphins coach Joe Philbin said the mile high drop in the final six games was a result of poor tackling and bad run fits.

"Mike [Wallace] did a great job here. He worked his tail off....It wasn't just one incident, one movement in time," Joe Philbin said.

Dolphins coach Joe Philbin said trading Mike Wallace to Minnesota was "what was best for the organization."

Joe Philbin said they know a lot more about Ryan Tannehill now and they are trying to match up WRs with things he throws.

Joe Philbin said part of the reason the Dolphins traded for Kenny Stills is the fact he runs good routes on passes Ryan Tannehill can throw.

Joe Philbin said he wants to see Ryan Tannehill improve on his decision making, accuracy and playing well in critical moments.

"Kenny Stills is young. He had 63 catches in New Orleans. He's a young player but he produced," Joe Philbin said.

Joe Philbin said his receiving corp is young, but they have been productive.

"There's still time. We're not full at 90 yet," Philbin said regarding adding a veteran receiver.

"Dion Sims has developed nicely but there's still some room to see him develop," Joe Philbin said.

"Billy Turner is the next guy. Can he take that next step?" Joe Philbin said of the offensive guard penciled in as the starting RG.

"The way the season ended defensively none of us were satisfied," Joe Philbin on the final 6 games.

"We felt like he still played hard & fast at the end of year....We'll have to take a look at snaps & how we divy them up," Philbin on Wake

"He's a smart guy. Dedicated guy. Does things the right way and practices hard," Joe Philbin on Jordan Tripp.

Joe Philbin said the plan is to keep Koa Misi as the middle linebacker "right now." He thinks injuries hindered what he could do.

Joe Philbin said Koa Misi is instinctive, physical, a good blitzer, can take on the run, tackles well.Expect years 2 of the ILBer investment

"You have to make decisions offensively [because of Suh]. Are you going to slide to Suh and Wake. We can play some games," Philbin said.

"Timing, spacing, anticipation and rhythm are the things Joe Philbin hopes to see from Ryan Tannehill and his new weapons.

"It's going to take a little time," Joe Philbin said of the Dolphins passing game developing chemistry.

Joe Philbin said Jordan Cameron runs a good route tree, and he also said the new tight end can line up at different positions.

"Lamar [Miller] was 6th in the league in third and short situations. He had some success there," Joe Philbin said of the power rushing game.

"We're not opposed to a power running back, but it has to fit overall to the team and contribute in different ways," Philbin said.

Joe Philbin said Louis Delmas has been in the facility every week. "he's been progressing well. He should make a quick recovery."

"The guy is a good football player...We just liked what he brought to the football team. He was a valuable member of club,"Philbin on Delmas

"There is room for development. He's progressed well, but that's an area where he can can better," Philbin on Ryan Tannehill's leadership.

Joe Philbin said Brice McCain has played more nickel cornerback on tape, but he doesn't rule out the fact he can play on he boundary.

Philbin said Jamar Taylor and Will Davis spent their first 2 seasons watching and learning. Now it's year three and they need to contribute.

Joe Philbin said Chris McCain is well versed playing on the line of scrimmage, but he needs to learn to play off the line some.

Joe Philbin said Dallas Thomas is "a very good athlete with good feet."

Right now Dallas Thomas is going to be moved to guard according to Joe Philbin.

Joe Philbin said Dallas Thomas' second season was a "learning experience....He's a young player who is a little inconsistent."

"The guy has a future. He played at three different spots. I think he has a future," Joe Philbin on Dallas Thomas.

Highlights from #Dolphins coach Joe Philbin's NFL meetings news conference http://fw.to/Y2hCrC

"He's a really good route runner and a very good scheme fit for us," Joe Philbin said of Kenny Stills.

Things I took from breakfast with Joe Philbin. 1. Ryan Tannehill must improve accuracy, decision making, leadership & play more clutch.

    2. Philbin kept Coyle based on what the defense did for 2.5 seasons. Was very disappointed in mile high drop. Defense will be simplified.

    3. Philbin is on board with youth movement, which is the Green Bay way. He said it's a coaches job to develop players. Expect growing pains

The Dolphins targeted Kenny Stills as the ideal replacement for Mike Wallace, and value the fact he runs routes Ryan Tannehill can throw.

Philbin believes Jordan Cameron will be a little better of a redzone weapon than Charles Clay,& will help offense attack the middle of field

Koa Misi will remain the middle linebacker for now. Dion Jordan will remain a DE for now, & Chris McCain is the projected starter at SLBer

Philbin felt Louis Delmas' leadership & steady play was critical to secondary's success moving forward. He's hopefully he'll be ready game 1

Branden Albert is pushing to get healthy for the season opener, but there is no guarantee he'll be cleared by the medical staff.

Billy Turner is penciled in as starting right guard.Mike Pouncey is moving back to center. Jason Fox will hold down RT till Albert's healthy

Right now, Dallas Thomas is penciled in as the starting left guard and Philbin is optimistic his struggles last season will make him better.

Coyle's biggest issue was getting too cute and over-complicating things. Good to hear they plan to simplify the defense and focus on the strengths of the unit.

Yeah, maybe as one of those guys that holds to Stop/Slow signs at road construction sites. That'd be about all I think he'll ever be good at.

Things I didn't like: Philbin is sticking with Dallas Thomas, Jordan is still a DE.
Things I liked: focus on simplification of defense, acknowledges that OL has been a problem the last few seasons.

True... and maybe, just maybe, Jordan can develop as a DE and Dallas Thomas can become a decent guard... let's hope that's what happens.

Yeah, I also wouldn't read too much into the DE vs OLB thing at this time. I think RR is right about that. This team has a lot invested in both Dion Jordan and Dallas Thomas so it's no surprise to me that the coaches want to give those guys extra attention. Remember, if those guys wind up developing into starters, it will be HUGE as far as erasing some of the team's biggest needs.

We all know that Jordan flashed as a pass rusher early on and I wouldn't be surprised if Philbin just wants to go back to square one and let Dion Jordan play instinctive football. It was only when Jordan was later asked to accept some coverage responsibilities that he became a bit inconsistent. I think that with time he'll be able to do both things well and that he'll be a huge asset to the team because of it, but I think it's very likely that Philbin just wants to get the kid on the field and let him do his thing.

I dislike him as an HC the more he talks. I truly hope he's right on these beliefs he has in some of the positions...haven't seen any proof in that pudding to date...but I'm just a fan. The Jordan stance is particularly confusing and disappointing to me. Maybe with Suh and Wake taking an inordinate amount of the OL attention Jordan can flourish...I pray.

The problem right out of the gate was actually that he was getting manhandled by offensive linemen and couldn't set the edge in the run game, and the defense was giving up huge runs wide with him on the field.
