There are a few more rule changes in the link. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...-practice-of-lining-up-ineligible-wrs-in-slot
Not sure how happy the Ravens are given this is coming after they lost. Either way, while I think this specific rule change is fine, I really wish Goodell would stop trying to reinvent the game so many times.
I think football has way too many motion penalties and they should eliminate excess rules and that would help .
Is there even a good reason for some of those illegal motion penalties? I mean, are NFL players going to get so confused about what's going on it will ruin the game of football if we don't have them?
w.r.t just that one point, yeah why not. I don't think we should adopt Canadian football rules in general though. I really wish the rules didn't change too much either so it's easier to compare across decades.
I just meant in the realm of motion. Canadian football or even Arena football, looks much different before the snap. It would open up offense even more.
I think this was done because what the Patriots did showed how vulnerable 97% of the league is to getting beaten pretty badly on stuff like that. What I mean is simply that what the Patriots did was basically indefensible. Good for them for getting one over, but it showed a huge flaw in the rules which--if tested regularly--could've been a disaster for defenses league-wide.
The fact they are changing the rule to make it illegal only proves that the Patriots didn't break a rule in the first place. With all the incessant rule changes over the years, the game is far more boring today than it was a few decades ago. I understand rule changes to help protect the players from serious injuries, but many of the rule changes have just been bad for the overall game, IMO. To me, defensive backs should be able to knock the snot out of a receiver until the ball is thrown and QB's should be treated like the other players on the field and shouldn't have so many rules protecting them from taking hits like everyone else.
It's true they didn't technically break the rule, they did, however break the spirit of the rule which is a trait of BB's... I'd like to think that they will also get corrected on the deflategate, but likely it'll be swept under the rug. Tom Terrific and Bill Belicheat will make Robert "Goodell" Kraft look good...
I loved it when he had the press conference when the deflategate started and said [with a straight face] "I don't even know the procedure for how the balls are handled on gameday"
Actually playing by the same set of rules according to the NFL. He is just better than everyone else. Hence the chess/checkers comment. Didn't think I would have to explain that.
So do 31 other teams fans. look you wanna knock Philbin go for it if he deserves criticism but come on really?
If we were both taking about a reputable coach who never cheated then yes, I would have agreed with you. But I disagree, hence my initial remark. Should have been more clear. I often speak in jest.
Eh, not sure how much of an advantage that gave the Patriots, they barely beat the Ravens and the Seahawks lol. So i dont think this changes anything, them losing all those players on that defense hurts them more than this silly rule change, which only fooled Harbaugh as he didnt pay attention.
They used that now-illegal substitution three times during a TD drive that included a 15 yard penalty against Harbaugh. Yeah, I think it made a difference. Do you think those plays would have worked as easily had the defense covered the declared eligible receiver instead of leaving him uncovered? Collectively, I think it's close to being worth a TD.
A game of inches. You take every advantage you can. BB just prefers to go the extra mile to get these advantages.
Actually, when a person cheats at a game, by definition, they are not playing by the same set of rules. I thought anyone who was able to use a computer would know the meaning of cheating. BB is a great coach. He's great at defensive schemes and he's great at getting the best out of nearly any player. However, he won his first three Championships by a total of 9 points. There is no doubt in my mind that the cheating he did (does?) was enough for a 3 point win in each of those 3 games.
Deception and cheating is something they’re experts at. It’s why very few people outside of New England take them and their tainted title seriously.
I understand Bill is a great coach. But No. 13 [Kurt Warner] will tell you. Mike Martz will tell you. We had some plays in the red zone that we hadn’t ran. And a couple of plays on third down that we walked through also. And they created a check for it. It’s just little things like that. It’s either the best coaching in the world when you come up with situations that you had never seen before. Or you’d seen it and knew what to do. ---Marshall Faulk I should have another ring. We were the best team in football in 2004, but the Patriots, who we beat during the regular season, stole our signals and picked up 90 percent of our blitzes [in the AFC title game]. They got busted for it later, but hey, they’re Goodell’s boys, so he slapped ‘em $500,000 and burned the tapes. Was he going to rescind their Super Bowls? Man, hell no! ---James Harrison "Who, Beli-CHEAT?" ---Don Shula It was clearly deception. That’s why I had to take the penalty, to get their attention so they would understand what was going on because [the Ravens’ defense] didn’t understand what was going on. That’s why guys were open, because we didn’t ID where the eligible receivers were at. The league will look at that type of thing, and I’m sure that they’ll make some adjustments and things like that. -----John Harbaugh Deflategate ---Swept under the rug Spygate ---ALL evidence destroyed, but the Pats still punished. Where there is smoke...
Especially running backs and qbs. Pretty much anyone who handles the football. Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk 4
Don't leave out the Tuck rule. How else can you take a straight up fumble and keep the ball so the golden team can get the win to make it in a Super Bowl.. Let a few years go by so the air is clear and change the rule back to a fumble where it should have always been.
