I'm all for him getting a shot. His A$$ needs more playing time one way or another. Between he and Vernon, I think we can survive against the run. He might be a real weapon against the pass. It's going to be the consistency that determines things. A great play here or there doesn't mean anything for a LB. You better show up and make the tough physical tackle 9 times out of 10.

I would love that. Draft a MLB, Jenkins, and either McCain or Dion Jordan at OLB and I think they are set especially with that beast defensive line playing in front of them. Imagine the blitz packages Jordan could give with that defensive line? Good in pass defense against tight ends too.

I would get him on a tough regiment of running, agility, etc and give him a shot as a LB. LB is such a big need for the team. That would give us a lot more wiggle room in the draft and he seems to have the potential. With his size, speed and ability to block passes, that could possibly be a great fit.

I do think DB is a big need for the team. I am almost at the point of wanting to pick Trey Waynes if he is there, though I doubt he will be.

It's less something they should be considering, and more something they should have figured out at this point.

Either way, they need to make him more of an edge rusher than he's been the last couple years. The experiment to turn him into Julius Peppers or Mario Williams or what have you didn't work.

Good God. Give him a position, tell him what to do in the offseason and give him an entire training camp and preseason at the position already. I mean this coaching staff is just ridiculous at this point.

It's probably more like they traded or cut everyone else, so they're forced to think about it.

I honestly wonder if we arent better going 3/4....although I know that will never happen this season.

How does the 3rd overall pick in the draft not have a designated role?

Coyle should have been fired after what happened last year. I would have pursued Kirby Smart the defensive coordinator for Nick Saban at Alabama. They get it done every year down there.

With a coach like that the Dolphins could have easily transitioned. DeAndre Coleman played in a base 3-4 at Cal and was an outstanding run stuffer at NT and 5-tech. Earl Mitchell played 0-tech for the Texans. It may turn out that Terrence Fede's best position may be as a pass rushing 5-tech.

Misi's best position imo would be 3-4 thumper and everyone in the world knows the best football Dion Jordan ever played was in the Joker role at Oregon.

Dolphins already have all the pieces and more than they need to run a base 3-4 and if Danny Shelton were there at 14 the synergy with Suh could be something the NFL has never seen.

Actually with the all the versatility this DL already has, talent wise...they should running every kind of front in existence, including a lot of unbalanced stuff. Dolphins have the personnel to utterly baffle offenses; and that's without even drafting any new personnel.

Just need a coach with a brain.

The possibility of going to a 3-4 went out the window when we signed Suh. We aren't going to run a 3-4 with him. Would be a waste and would be completely mis-using our highest paid and most important defensive player.

If anything, you switch to a 4-3 similar to Denver's, with Dion in a Von Miller type role...

The article doesn't make it sound like Tannenbaum and co. are high on Jordan in any way. On one hand, it points out Jordan would be competing for depth on DE, that they might draft LB ("one or two") in the draft, and that Jordan might compete with McCain (who the coaches "love") for LB, etc..

Guy is 90% bust so far, and this write-up isn't helping change that perception IMO.

They might be, but they definitely should not make the decision based on accommodating Dion Jordan.

Well.. I just gave examples of why. I guess if you're high on a player, you're probably not going to say he'll probably be competing for depth at both positions he could play, and that he might have to compete against possibly 2 draft picks. Just saying that article doesn't make it sound like Jordan is a clear-cut starter at some position.

I think this may be my favorite part about the Tannebaum hire is that he realizes talent regardless of draft status or age or guaranteed money.

He has done his best so shed the fat from our Salary Cap and of course we have a ton of dead money but he has us set up for some money available next year with some big contracts due with RT17, Pouncey, Miller, and Vernon.

In regards to Dion, I think anyone who has watched him in a pure pass rush position he struggles. He doesn't have a wide array of pass rush moves or killer bend in his body like Wake. He has desirable size but it comes with untouched athleticism for that size. The fact Mr. T pointed out he was 60 yards down field with Calvin, is nice to hear. Because in past years its all about forcing him to be a DE. Regardless of what happens the face they are identifying Jordan and McCain as possible SLB is a real benefit for our team this year and for the future. We need the best players on the field at one time.

It would be an amazing boost to our D if he is sick a LB. Makes a weakness potentially a great strength. It beats the alternative

On the flip side you could say we had a bad staff who stubbornly went to be 4-3 when they had the personel to run a dominant 3-4.

Soilia, Starks, Odrick, McDaniel, Shelby at DL. Dansby, Burnett, Wake, Vernon, Misi, plus Jordan and Jenkins at LB? That's a damn good front seven w both talent and depth. And none of those guys cost 19 million per season.

Yeah, they tried him at DE and it just didn't work. Commit to having him at OLB and have him get his weight down (255-260 lbs) to get back his speed and quickness. I would like to see him in coverage a lot versus the bigger TEs and rushing on occasion.

I'll be honest though, I have little faith in this coaching staff to make it work.

Keep an eye out for them trying him at TE at some point - right before they finally give up on him.

Well, if Jordan goes to SAM, it would open the door to draft Arik Armstead to pair with him which is infinitely more appropriate schematically than Olivier Vernon.

I honestly think the better question is not just about Jordan but all defensive ends and linebackers. Who is better at rushing the passer, who is better at dropping into coverage. Too many times last year, the scheme called for one of our defensive ends to drop into coverage and they then proceeded to get burned. Kansas City game is an example. Shelby/Vernon/Wake dropping into coverage. And Dion Jordan not dropping into coverage enough. So I think it's more complex than just saying we should have Dion Jordan playing linebacker. But that doesn't make for a nice headline.

I was surprised they didn't do this last season when clay was banged up. I was on the field for the san diego pregame and his towers over everyone one else he is near. The only person on the field who was as big as he is was king dunlap

They made him an eligible receiver on one endzone play near the end of the season, forgot against which team. The play got called back because of a timeout by the other team... but I remember that Tannehill lobbed him the ball before the whistle was blown and he had to triple catch it with no defender even near him.. guess that's why the staff didn't try him at TE anymore, lol.

Yeh....I was listening to either "Finsiders" or "Joe Rose" cant remember which one..and they were saying how one of the guys was out playing catch with Dion and he has hands of stone. Even they said.."Guess thats why hes not playing TE"

Suh can play any technique and position inside the Tackles you want and still be dominant.

One-gap he's playing the same techniques, and you can see him two-gap enough to be comfortable with that. I wouldn't put him as a 2-gap Nose Tackle as his every week position, but if there's a nice matchup why not?
