Yes, he gets to the QB, but you publicly sold him as a DE, which is misleading. Two 3's for Newsome was a bargain for Fin-O. He was so good as a rookie and has such nice edge-rush ability and potential that I was actually comfortable trading Beasley [ask the Redskins]. You don't get a greater endorsement than that. As far as "publicly downgrading" Davis goes, well if you don't publicly upgrade him as something he isn't and then call out the league in the process, you wouldn't have anything to worry about. At least when I sell Newsome, Jones, and Marquess Wilson, I sell it for exactly who they are. If you wanna publicly sell Davis as a 6.5 sack defensive end and publicly suggest that we won't find a guy capable of matching his production as a DE, then I'll publicly correct it for integrity's sake. If you think I mislead anyone about Newsome, Jones, and Marquess Wilson, then by all means feel free to argue it, but I can tell you now that you'll lose. That is a fair point, but people needed to know that his greatest contribution comes from the interior in nickel, not off the edge at DE, and if you go back to my post you'll see that I suggested as such. I never said to stay away. In fact I said that he's a nice addition to a team lacking interior pass rush ability, which is probably a lot of teams. Michael Bennet inked a $32 million deal mainly due to his ability to generate inside pressure in passing situations, and I said Davis is being used as like a poor man's Bennett, so I think you're taking my post a little too personally. Bennett signed for $32 million/4yr; following Davis's 6.5 sack 2014 season, he re-upped for 585k on a 1 year deal. If Jax valued him as much as you and PFF's grading do, they would've re-signed him for more money and to a longer deal, no? As far as interior rushers go, I'm not sure he represents the best talent on the board, but I do know that he's at least proven himself capable of such a role in the NFL which shouldn't go for nothin'.
I keep worrying I'll draft someone that's been drafted. I think I scanned the draft thread 200 times. Intense.
The Jets are thrilled to welcome backup Guard Andrew Norwell to our team. Picked up at vet min., Norwell started 11 games last year for the Carolina Panthers (as a rookie) and finished +8 according to PFF with +3.5 grade as a Pass Blocker and +2.3 in run blocking.
I didn't need a Todd "sales pitch" to convince me Newsome is a good player. I've followed his career since he was recruited. I had been interested in him the entire time, we just took a while to get the compensation where we wanted it. i know this draft is fun and all...but the reality is the success rate of 3rd rounders in the NFL is not very good. I entered this draft with a 1 and 2 6's....to this point I've walked away with a special RB, an immediate starter in the slot, a CB with as high an upside as there is in this draft, and a pass rusher who has already shown flashes. I'm ok with these results.
Spin it? What's to spin? When Jax had more bodies on the field capable of getting to the QB, Davis's sack numbers dropped to 2.5 over 9 games. Do you think those numbers will improve with Odrick and potentially Beasley/Fowler added to the mix, plus the healthy return of Branch who notched 8 sacks over his previous 10 games before suffering hip and groin injuries? I know right, Chuck Pagano is such a sucker.
Not even Cole Hamels could stop the plague that occurred in Philly. Yes, I know, you were using a 12 Monkeys ref.
Thank you soooooooooo much for defending the integrity of this fine league. You're the hero the GML deserves...It's a faux pas to comment on guys being actively moved. Don't think it takes a genius to figure out why. And he is a defensive end lol. Just because he's moved around the line on passing downs and because he's not a LEO (reserved for a special breed of D-ends, guys that are usually 240 and that's all they do) doesn't mean that's not where he normally plays. Fortunately, I am colleagues with a handful of people who cover NFL teams for a living, so I'm able to sift through your bull**** points pretty seamlessly. Asked my buddy who professionally covers the Jags (and has done so for about a decade) about Davis: "He's a solid rotational guy. Better than Branch, although he performs better in limited role. He's an edge guy, I think he's capable of (averaging about 7 sacks per season) in his current role. More of a true DE than a LEO." So yeah. He's a DE. Please get your **** correct before you spew uneducated dribble out there for all of us to read. I guess I'm unsure of your motives and desire to give a lengthy, fairly inaccurate, scouting report on a guy I was looking at moving to the entire league...just know I wouldn't do that to you or anyone else.
That was simply my point in trying to move Davis...young guys who are competent at getting to the QB are hard to find, nonetheless hard to find in the third round or later. So asking for a 3rd rounder (not two) for Davis seemed more than fair. Newsome (24) averaged a QB disruption on 12% of his pass-pushes. Davis (26) did so on 11 percent of his. Just saying that those making it out like I'm asking for a ton or that its absurd to want a 3rd and a 5th for that probably aren't doing their homework, when someone with comparable numbers netted two 3rds.
It's not that I approve or disapprove, it's just funny that y'all have managed to draft from essentially the same place every time without clearly reaching. This was exactly who I projected to go at this pick when trying to determine who will make it to my next pick. I will say, I don't know who to project next though. I have a guess, but I'd bet it's wrong.
We really did NOT go into this with only HUrricanes on the board. Actually this pick was supposed to be - Lakin, Aj Cann, Marpet or David Johnson, they all went. So, next on the list Chickillo. Hope we dont get zinged too much by the voters. It just happens that he's another Cane.
Yeh...also since this is a Dolphins board...you tendnto get to know Hurricane players as they come up in conversation alot...or if your like me whoistens to shows like Joe Rose and the Koop and Crowder show alot..you get to know them as well...its like recruiting in your own back yard..
I don't see why you would get zinged, like I said just funny because it's unusual. Based on who you listed, my next guess may actually be right though.
Draft card is in.... And Luke Willson is on the block, if anyone is looking for a TE who really has a ton of upside and played in an offense in Seattle that didnt utilize him often, then hit me up.
you probably were right on about 30 minutes ago, but things change..LOL we were throwing a lot of names on the wall and Heureman stuck!
Hundley was my back-up pick. I don't need a QB, but I like him a good bit, and he's great value at this point.
