With the 79th pick, Seattle selects DE Mario Edwards Jr., Florida State University

More fun players to mess around with on the defensive line. He slimmed down since the end of the college playoffs, getting in better shape, and becoming more explosive. He's a project worth developing behind Bennett, Avril Lavigne, and Biermann.

HoustonTexans select with the 82nd pick in the 2015 Draft:

Tony Lippett, WR – Michigan State

School:Michigan State | Position: WR | Experience: Senior | Height: 6-2 | Weight:192lbs

OVERVIEW: One of the most improved players in the country, Lippett ledthe Spartans in receiving in 2014 and had good production for the Spartans with65 receptions for 1,198 yards with 11 touchdowns, over the past 2 seasonsLippett has hauled in over 100 catches for just over 2000 yards and 20 TD’s. Lippettshowed nice route-running and hands for Michigan State, he developed chemistrywith Connor Cook has been evident and it's been tough to find weaknesses inLippett's game this season.

Started2 games at CB in 2014, could be converted into a CB at NFL.
STRENGTHS: Large, strong hands, and uses every inch of his wide catching radius to adjust andsnare passes away from his body. Plucks the ball and stays focused in contestedsituation. He has improved his patience in his route-running combined withexcellent footwork in his breaks to sell patterns, hold defenders and createroom to work after the catch, including using a mean stiff arm.

WEAKNESS: Lacks an ideal body type with slender shoulders and lankylimbs. Average top-end speed with little that separates him athletically fromothers. Lacks suddenness off the line and at the top of his route, strugglingto stack. Needs to attack defensive backs in the open field, before and afterthe catch instead of avoiding contact. Needs to show better sink-and-cut in hisroute movements to hold defenders. Doesn’t consistently play up to hisheight/length and needs to be more consistent on 50-50 chances. Underwhelmingproduction as an underclassman with only four career touchdowns prior to hissenior season.

Nate Orchard, OLB, Utah!!

We're pleased to get a player like Nate here in the 3rd round. He was ultra-productive in his Senior campaign, coming up with 18.5 sacks, 21 TFL, several FFs, and some PDs for good measure. Nate was a captain and Ted Hendricks award winner (Defensive End of the Year).

If not for his slower than desired 40 time, we have no doubt he'd be off the board much earlier. But we are grateful he isn't and is available to us. We feel like he has all the tools and tenacity to play an OLB role for us much like Terrell Suggs transitioned his 4.8s forty yard dash into a long and successful career.

We can't wait to see Nate come in with his other fellow draft-mates on the defensive side, as well as our other new additions, and bring back the defense the Steel city is known for.

OVERVIEW:
The New England Patriots let their quarterback of the future go in Jimmy Garopollo for a high first round draft selection which turned into Danny Shelton. They've found their new quarterback of the future in late round three by selecting Brett Hundley. The dual threat quarterback was the Patriots' clear cut best player available so they will not hesitate to pull the trigger. With Tom Brady approaching the age of 38 in August, New England will need to groom a quarterback for life after Brady. While Tom Brady and Brett Hundley are two completely different types of quarterbacks, the New England organization has zero hesitations that Bill Belichick will be able to utilize Hundley's skill set to its fullest potential once needed. Hundley will enter training camp as the number three quarterback behind Tom Brady and Austin Davis.

STRENGTHS:
• Looks the part with a tall, well-built frame and has the arm to unleash passes all over the field.
• Easy throwing motion with a strong, accurate arm.
• Noel Mazzone's offense asks him to make aggressive downfield throws and his quarterback shows the courage to attempt these passes even with defenders in close proximity to his targets.
• Quick set-up and release and possesses the velocity and touch to make any throw.
• Even more impressive than Hundley's elusiveness and acceleration, however, is his vision and poise while buying time in the pocket.
• Hundley feels pressure well and is willing to step up in the pocket.
• Though he needs to continue working in this area, he did show improvement in 2014 in re-setting while keeping his passing options open, critical for long-term success in the NFL.
• Hundley has the physical traits to explode as a dual-threat passer in the NFL and the mental toughness so critical for success at the next level.
WEAKNESSES:
• Takes virtually every snap from the shotgun and typically relies upon pre-snap reads in a relatively simple offense.
• Scouts want to see him operate better from the pocket, especially under duress.
• Has a tendency to drop his eyes and look to run in the face of pressure, even when able to elude the initial defender.
• Good, but not great straight-line speed in the mold of elite dual-threat QBs.
• Hundley's ball placement is a work-in-progress.
• Like most young quarterbacks, he needs to develop his anticipation as a passer and show better rhythm with his weapons, but he has the qualities that can't be coached
PLAYER COMPARISON
• Randall Cunningham, Philadelphia Eagles

With the 86th overall pick, the Detroit Lions select...

TJ Yeldon, HB, Alabama
[IMG]

We don't really have any more needs, so it's best player available for us at this point. Yeldon is a guy we thought about taking in round 2, but picked Abdullah who we had a slightly higher grade on. The good news is, Yeldon and Abdullah complement each other perfectly as Abdullah is a smaller, more electric player, and Yeldon is a bigger, more powerful back. Without a ton of depth at the position, we expect Abdullah and Yeldon to be a dynamic 1-2 punch for years to come in Detroit.

With the 87[SUP]th[/SUP] pick in the 2015 GML Draft, the New York Jets select:

Steven Nelson, CB - Oregon State

Height:
5’10” Weight: 197 lbs. Experience: Senior

Although we don't view CB as a pressing need, especially after acquiring Orlando Scandrick, the value was too good to pass up for us. Nelson is a shorter CB where 6'0" and taller players are the newest flavor but anyone who overlooks him based on height is foolish. This is a well-polished young player who leaves it all out on the field every play and is confident enough to match up with any receiver. His most impressive game came against first round pick Jaelen Strong, totally shutting him down despite the obvious size advantage. We view Nelson as our immediate No. 4 CB, not from lack of talent, but from a purely depth standpoint. Should Thurmond struggle to stay healthy, we are confident Nelson can start in the nickel with no dropoff in production.

STRENGTHS:
Physicality is very obvious. Small frame but plays bigger, plays up to level of competition. Very good speed and agility, loose in the hips and moves with the Receiver. Instinctive. Reads ball and makes a play on it. Delivers hits that someone his size shouldn’t; jars balls from Receiver’s hands as it gets there. When covering a Go route close to the sideline, angles the Receiver out of bounds and either makes the throw too far out of bounds or doesn’t allow the Receiver to get two feet down. Uses boundary to his advantage. Competitive fire, showed up to play at the Senior Bowl. Confident tackler who is not afraid to get dirty. Shutdown Jaelen Strong in 2014 (the vast majority of Strong’s yards came when Nelson was not covering him).

WEAKNESSES:
Clear size limitations. Although he was able to handle Strong, his ability to come off of blocks was greatly inhibited. Gets grabby, might generate fouls at the next level if hes not careful. Willing tackler but doesn’t always clean up. While he makes plays when the ball is in the air, will mirror a receiver and often gives up, or nearly so, a catch.

COMPARES TO:
Cortland Finnegan, Retired - Both CBs are undersized but feisty players who do not let their size dictate how good they are. Although Finnegan was faster coming out of college, Nelson is still speedy enough to stick with receivers in the NFL. Both players are excellent technicians who were underrated for the majority of their career, but Nelson has great potential to be something special.

With the ninety-first pick in the 2015 GM League Draft, the New York Giants select . . . Grady Jarrett, Defensive Tackle, Clemson University.

From NFL.com

Strengths
Squatty ball of power. Has a compact, powerful frame and gets consistent push. Plays to the whistle and will chase plays to the sideline. Outstanding at timing snaps and getting into lineman first. His natural power and leverage is a nightmare for centers and taller guards. Protects himself against cut blocks and shows plus ball awareness. Able to elude guards in tight spaces and get into the backfield.

Weaknesses
Undersized, despite his well-built frame. Relies on initial burst off snap to generate pass rush. Plays hard but will wear down in the fourth quarter. Might not be able to carry too much more good weight on his frame.

Sources Tell Us
"Grady will take you on a ride when he gets into you. I think grades on him will really vary since the only real fit for him is in a 1-gap 4-3 defense on the nose. Teams will beat him up over his size, but someone is going to get a good football player with him." -- NFC North scout

NFL Comparison
Earl Mitchell

Bottom Line
Jarrett is built like a refrigerator, but he's hardly a stationary player. He lacks the overall size to be considered as a nose by most base 3-4 teams, but he's a perfect shade-nose fit for teams looking for a disruptor in a one-gap, penetrating front.

From the GM:"Jarrett is the perfect fit for coach Schiano's one-gap defense, we think he's a tremendous value at the end of the third round."

Overview

At this stage in the process, it’s about maximizing your value while filling needs if possible, but you can also take some risks. Late in the third round you’re looking for those “potential” guys who can offer starting ability but may be lacking “something” that’s caused other teams to pass up on them. That sort of explains how we arrived at Senquez Golson as our latest draft choice.

When I look at Golson I see a slightly undersized guy that was arguably the most dynamic corner in the toughest college football conference in America. Schematically I see him being able to play in both man and zone schemes (and more importantly, complex blended schemes such as those that our defensive coordinator likes to run). I believe he has the ability to line up outside or inside, and can develop into a shutdown guy if the circumstances are right. We’ve heard the arguments. Some folks will look at Senquez and think he isn’t in love with the game. We disagree. Some say that he doesn’t have the height to be a cover corner. Again, we disagree. We like this quote, from an AFC Scout, who had this to say about Golson:

Doesn’t sound like he has a passion problem to us. In fact, it sounds like the opposite. When we evaluated Golson we saw a plus guy who had the potential - and again it’s late in the third, so we’re willing to roll the dice a little bit - the potential to be a very good, if not great, starter in the NFL. Here’s Spags with more.

Strengths / Weaknesses

Courtesy of NFL.com.

STRENGTHS: Outstanding competitor with plus ball skills. Production was off the charts in 2014. Had 9 interceptions and 16 pass deflections. Explosive through lower body. Instinctive. Can twitch and trigger to break on the ball. Can mirror in space and closes down passing windows. Plays with smooth hips and good balance. Can open hips to turn and run and has good top-end speed. Willing and effective against the run. Maintains leverage against the run and can disengage to make aggressive tackle when necessary. Has good eye discipline and can focus on his man and the quarterback at the same time.

WEAKNESSES: Worked primarily in zone and off-man coverage. Needs to show NFL evaluators that he can get in a receiver's pocket and stay there from press-man. Might be considered too small to play outside in the NFL. Three of his four touchdowns allowed came against receivers 6-foot-4 or taller. Smallish frame combined with aggressive tackling could lead to durability concerns.

NFL COMPARISON: Brent Grimes

BOTTOM LINE: Golson has the twitch, ball skills and instincts to be an outstanding cornerback in the NFL. Despite playing so much zone in college, there is no reason to believe he can't transition to any coverage asked of him. He's well put-together, but his lack of height could force some teams to view him as a slot-only corner. Golson has Pro Bowl potential.

OVERVIEW:
Played in 49 games, starting 42. Captured South Team MVP honors at 2015 Senior Bowl. Named unanimous All-American in 2014 and was tabbed first-team All-ACC for two years in a row (2013-14) while helping lead Florida State to a 27-1 record and 2013 BCS national championship. In 2013, missed one game due to ankle injury. In 2012, named second-team All-ACC while starting 14 games at right guard. Played in the final eight games as a freshman, and started in bowl game against Notre Dame. Played both offensive and defensive line at Wayne County High School (Ga.). Missed his junior season with an ACL tear.

STRENGTHS:
• Leverage and strength to stand and steer defenders in confined spaces. Stays flat-footed and balanced at point of impact in pass pro. Deliberate, controlled climb to second level. Power to jolt in his hands. Shows recovery ability when beaten in run game. In short pull, can find target, engage and seal. Aggressive play demeanor. Can take a stand when being bull-rushed.
• Good burst to get to linebackers at the second level and the agility to turn and seal defensive linemen in the running game. Uses his mass and leg drive to easily plow opponents off the ball when he keeps his pad level low. Durable.

• Compares to Justin Blalock

WEAKNESSES:

• Relies on mass and strength to occupy blockers. Stops his feet on contact. Strong enough to latch and control collegiate-level opponents but if he doesn't shuffle laterally or allows opponents to get into his chest, he can be beaten with quickness or power. Has the short-area quickness to get to the second level but doesn't have great balance or change-of-direction agility to adjust to moving targets.

GM SAYS:
BOTTOM LINE:
Jackson is arguably the most accomplished right guard in the draft. Despite his reputation and NFL build, Jackson could struggle to enjoy the same success at the next level unless he learns to play with greater technique. He too often relies on his natural gifts and must prove he can consistently compete at the highest level. Has the talent to be a dependable, quality NFL starter, but he needs to work on weight and conditioning in order to improve his feet and reach his potential.

With the 98th pick of the 2015 GML Draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers are proud to select...

Josh Shaw, DB, USC!!!

Josh is a player we've had our eye on for quite some time, and we're more than happy to have him available here. After missing a significant portion of the 2014 season due to an embarrassing lie that spread across the country, we knew he'd be in for a drop come draft time despite being highly thought of before last season. We think however that Josh has held up well in the pre-draft process not only on the field and in drills, but with how he has handled himself in the media and in interviews and proven himself worthy of a selection at this point in the draft (if not sooner). This is a very talented individual capable of playing either CB or S at the next level, and we will look to maximize his talents and contributions, while not trying to force too much on him too soon. This is not a selection for today, but a selection for tomorrow, however tomorrow may ultimately come sooner than one thinks.

With the 105th pick of the 2015 GML Draft, the Seattle Seahawks select....

LB Jake Ryan, University of Michigan!

Mr. Ryan was off to a promising college career until a major injury in 2013. Ryan managed to work his way back to play in the 2014 season and was noted and observed as getting better as each week passed. Ryan proved to be one of the few bright spots on a pretty miserable Michigan team in 2014 (I know, we're all so broken up by that), proving to be a quality tackler and playmaker. More importantly, by the end of the season, Ryan appeared to be back to where he was before his 2013 CL injury. Ryan went on to post a better than expected 40 time and having himself a quality combine. Given his work ethic, Ryan will compete with Pullard in what should be a great camp battle for either the starting MLB position and/or playing time behind Irvin and Wright.

Jesse James, TE, PSU!!

We have followed Jesse's career closely for these last three years as Jesse played football in our back yard and we are happy to add him to our team. We think he will fit in nicely behind Heath Miller, and be able to glean plenty of craftsmanship and professionalism off of him (we feel similarly about Taylor Thompson). We also have no doubt that our coaches will be able to convert Jesse's considerable strength into functional blocking technique, making him a valuable piece of our entire offense. Jesse posted modest numbers in his PSU career due to coaching changes early on, as well as playing with an underclassmen QB the past two year, but still managed to catch as many TDs in his career as any other PSU TE to date.

Jesse comes with plenty of athleticism and size, posting some of the most explosive numbers at the combine for his position (37.5" VJ, 10'01" BJ, and he improved his 40 to the 4.6's for his pro day), despite being 6'7" and 261. We know that he'll grow into a more complete TE with us and be a nightmare in the RZ early on.

Overview

I got a text while I was at the bar early Monday morning from Chip Kelly. "This is Chip" the text read - which you might think is weird because I have his number in my phone, but he actually starts every text this way, at least to me. "Let's wrap this thing up. I'm bored." I texted him back asking simply, "O or D?" He responded back with "Spags is *****in about the D. Go get someone. Don't **** it up." Chip can be such a pain in the ***. So I put down my tankard of mead, quickly found a trading partner (thank you Tampa Bay), and started doing some research.

In doing that research I ran across Za'Darius Smith. I found his story intriguing; played basketball, started playing football in 2010, became a JUCO stud, transferred to Kentucky, and began wreaking havoc. So I went into the film room, and what I saw was a promising, albeit raw player, with some limited pass rush skills on the outside, and with the ability to kick inside on pass rush situations.

In other words, I had found my very own poor man's Michael Bennett, which is to say that I had also found my very own poor man's Ryan Davis. Or was that Jonathan Newsome ... ? I'm still not entirely sure. Like I said. Tankard of mead. Stay with me here. I figured that I owed it to Spags to get him a lineman - they're his favorite, after all. I wanted to do this earlier in the process, but Chip had traded away the second rounder I had set aside for it because he decided he wanted Matt Forte. Either way, I felt like I had found a diamond in the rough. So I ran Smith by Spags and he was ... well, I'll let you see what he said.

I probably should have left that last part out. Ah well. You're probably curious what the plan is for Smith. He'll technically be classified as an "Edge Defender" on our roster but that's a bit of a misnomer. He's one of those versatile players - something Chip loves. We feel like he can be a reserve Run Stuffing Defensive End / 3-4 OLB / Pass Rushing DT type of player for us. We resigned Brandon Graham and signed Calvin Pace, so he will not be forced into the lineup early. That said, we feel that he has the potential to grow into a starting role down the road, especially when you consider he's only been playing the game for a few years.

Strengths / Weaknesses

Courtesy of CBS Sports.

STRENGTHS: Tall, long and broad-shouldered with solid build on his frame, looking the part of a NFL defensive end. Initial burst out of his stance to win the edge and surprise blockers with quickness. Core power and length to set the edge with heavy hands and upper body strength to shock blockers at the point of attack. Aggressive swat/swim moves with active hands to work off blockers and keep himself free. Improved eye use to locate and track quickly, rarely losing sight of the ball. Stays assignment sound and rarely take himself out of plays. Physical striker and reliable tackler, using his length to wrap and finish. Only average speed, but terrific effort each snap and fights through the whistle. Fiery competitor and plays with a passionate demeanor, always fired up. Versatile experience as an edge rusher at both left and right end, also lining up inside as a 3-tech tackle. Football bloodlines with an older brother (OL Bob Meeks) and cousin (DT Davern Williams) who played in the NFL. Toughed out an ankle injury late in the 2014 season, missing three quarters against Georgia, but returned following week. Always smiling and carry himself with a positive attitude and the coaches talk highly about his growth, both physically and mentally.

WEAKNESSES: Adequate initial quickness to run the arc, but needs to better control his momentum. Wild pursuit angles, struggling to stop his momentum on a dime and redirect at full speed. Has some stiff, rigid movements in space. Can be driven backwards and needs to improve his high pad level to play with better leverage and anchor. Routinely pops upright and needs to better protect himself vs. cut blocks. Needs to show more creativity and better shoulder dip as an edge rusher, not fooling blockers with his current bag of tricks. Plays high so he tends to hit high, which leads to helmet hits and smaller ballcarriers breaking free. Still relatively new to the game and learning the details of the position.

From CBSSports.com

STRENGTHS: Above average speed for the position with transitional quickness and natural footwork. Highly aggressive and plays at full speed at all times. Never gives up on plays and has a knack for chasing down ballcarriers downfield from behind. Understands angles and sees things happening quickly. Decisive sideline angles with closing burst to make up ground. Good anticipation to jump routes, reading the quarterback and baiting throws.

Heady awareness and won?t fall asleep at the wheel. Adequate ballskills and knows what to do with the ball once he gains possession (six career interceptions, averaging 29.8 yards per return with two touchdowns). Plays bigger than he looks and initiates the action, seeking out contact with a violent mentality to strike through his target. Plays ticked off and sets the tempo. Unselfish team-first type with ideal training habits.

Played on special teams coverages at Arizona State with experience as a return man. Productive starter in only two seasons at the FBS level, creating 10 turnovers (six interceptions, four forced fumbles).

WEAKNESSES: Undersized and lacks ideal strength and bulk for the safety position. Willing tackler, but too often needs help to finish stops and can be taken for a ride. Too many ankle biting tackle attempts. Needs to break down better on the move and keep his feet underneath him to be more reliable in open-field opportunities. Overaggressive, leading to wasted steps and motion. Will get fooled by play fakes due to his overaggressive nature.

Needs to stay patient in his pedal and often bites too early, which will lead to disaster when lined up in man coverage. Still very unpolished with the technical side of the game. Needs to harness his hostility to avoid unnecessary contact and late hit penalties. Size and violent play style draw durability concerns as he was often dinged up in college.

--Dane Brugler

From the GM:
"Randall is a guy that we've seen projected to go in the second round, so to get him here in the fourth feels good. He may not have the size, but he's got a nose for the ball. We think the combination of he, Trae Waynes, Leon Hall, and Jonathan Cyprien will provide the Giants with a ferocious back end for the next decade."

LB Kwon Alexander, Louisiana State University

We are excited to add LSU's leading tackler this past season and a combine workout warrior to compete at all linebacking spots. With Ryan possibly being more of an outside LB in the end, the fast Alexander will be put to use in space and provide depth inside. This will give us the ample depth necessary and continue the youth movement on the defensive side of the ball.
