157 the Vikings take SS Clayton Geathers, UCF

Four-year starter. Has feet and hips to cover tight ends. Maintains depth when asked to play single-high. Play speed is better than his timed speed. Adequate short-area quickness. Has closing burst to ball and disruptive hands when he's in position to challenge the catch. Weaves through the trash, finds and finishes in run support. Seeks out action and posted tremendous tackle production over previous three seasons (298 tackles). Cherishes his role as a hitter.

    RB Josh Robinson, Mississippi State

    - Bowling Ball? If I was playing five pin maybe
    - Yeah that was a good run on Kentucky, just let me know when they decide to become a powerhouse in anything other then basketball

Pro Comparison: Shannon Moore - What a small M'Fer

    Our scouts take:
"Were you watching Rudy again? It's going to be just like that because we're going to have to watch his friend the QB die because he can't block anything bigger then Mr. Chow's nuts. I know I'm mixing movie references, you're mixing up our draft cards."

    - He reminds me a lot of Michael Sam... you must be excited to scout him at the veteran combine next year!
    - He's got short arms like a T-rex, so he's going to get eaten alive by tackles and guards like they were Spinosaurus
    - A system guy, kind of like NES in the age of PS4

Pro Comparison: Kallisto - This close to being the luchadore Rico.

    Our scouts take:
"You know that saying looks like Tarzan and plays like Jane? Well Jane can get a sack, if you know what I mean. This guy is the lead you can't turn into gold."

From purely an athletic standpoint, no other TE in this draft really compares. Sprinkle in his production and ability to pluck the ball out of the air he presents tremendous value imo in the 6th round. A bit undersized for a TE. Very similar player to former Dolphins TE Charles Clay.

With the 164th pick, the Indianapolis Colts select

    Jeremiah Poutasi, T/G, Utah

The powerful, violent 6'5 335 pound Poutasi looks and plays the part of a young Mike Iupati and jolts defenders in ways that only Brandon Scherff is capable of matching in this draft class. As a true junior and still just a young 20 years old, the upside is high with this 2nd Team All-PAC-12 lineman. Three year starter at left & right tackle but will move inside to left guard where he can focus on what he does best- maul the s*** out of people while no longer being exposed to speed rushers off the edge. This selection allows AJ Cann to slide inside to center, his high school position, where some scouts feel he's even better suited at than guard. The Colts feel this represents solid 6th round value for a player who might've been a top 75 pick in 2016 had he stayed his final year.

One of the most beautifully embarrassing pancakes I've ever witnessed. More like a ragdoll toss. [Poutasi is #73 at LT]

We finish our draft with our second corner after taking two running backs to end the draft with only drafting two positions. We're fine with that because we feel we got 4 very good players that fill big holes at the only two positions we had any. Gaines is a guy who we feel represents very good value at this pick. He will compete for playing time immediately.

Despite going hard for defensive prospects, it was hard to pass up this RB. His size (6'2, 230), shiftiness, and low mileage made him extremely appealing as a project to develop behind our current depth. Now he gets to learn the art of a stiff arm from Lynch.

    Tyler Varga, FB/HB, Yale!!!

Tyler is a guy we fell in love with at the SR bowl, where he showed how much of a true football player he was. Undeterred by the challenge of playing FB for the first time on such a bigger stage than he had to perform while at Yale, he went in there and showed a real aptitude for the position and also displayed his running prowess on two touchdowns (among other carries). We really began scouting him more after that, and found him to be a powerful and shifty runner who also displayed soft hands and good pass blocking for a college tailback. There will be an obvious adjustment from the level of competition he faced, but I am not sure the challenge is any greater than what he was dealing with while a student at Yale, balancing his pre-med degree with football. I just know we can't wait to add him to our backfield of Le'Veon Bell, Ryan Mathews, and Dri Archer. We know he'll put his all out there for us whether it be STs, backup running duties, blocking, H-back, or 3rd down back. We're very excited.

With the 183[SUP]rd[/SUP] in the 2015 GML Draft, the New York Jets select:

    Bobby McCain, CB - Memphis

    Height:
5’09” Weight: 195 lbs. Experience: Senior

Obviously, Cornerback was the last place we were looking to go for considering we are already four deep and our last selection was the undersized but feisty Steven Nelson. But if I learned anything from watching 16 Giants games last year, it was that you can go from being five deep at CB to two deep in depth in a blink of an eye. Bobby McCain was by far our highest rated guy still left on the board, having given him a third round grade. We think this is a very smart player who not only loves the game of football, but will excel at it. He is undersized to play outside but he has the swagger and playmaking ability to play outside if need be. We project him as a versatile nickel whose ceiling is as a Brent Grimes-type.

    STRENGTHS:
Has excelled in the classroom. Versatile cornerback who has played outside and inside at nickel. Playmaker. He’ll bait QBs into mistakes by filtering off in zone and making them think a receiver is open crossing into his zones. This has extended when giving a deep disguise in Cover Two, where he makes decisive reads on the QB’s indicators with help over the top. Re-directs his frame with ease. Finishes interception opportunities. Excellent hip flexion. Fluid cornerback. He works to use his safety help with a deep post safety in the middle of the field as a nickel back in man-to-man coverage. Sticks his foot in the dirt and drives on quick passes with decisiveness. Will set the edge on the perimeter for his teammates in inside-out pursuit. Provides a satisfactory presence on swing passes and can lift-and-rise through the hips. Flashes timing as a blitzer on both corner spots and also from the nickel spot (after disguising). Has earned time at the gunner position and returned kicks in his career.

    WEAKNESSES:
Missed three games in 2013 as a result of an injury. Eye control. Has been over-aggressive and given up some double moves. This showed up with even more frequency when facing UCLA in 2014, where he allowed two touchdowns because his eyes were fixated in the backfield. Has not always flashed a supreme downfield closing gear once WRs have gotten a step on him. Seems to go immediately back to the QB once the receiver makes his first break. He’ll play a little bit soft in three-deep coverage in zone, allowing lots of room on deep curls. Too often he’ll get into his zone or man turns too early and allow separation at the break points when playing from an off alignment (either in the slot or on the perimeter).

    COMPARES TO:
Brent Grimes, Dolphins – Like Grimes, McCain is able to overcome his short stature by being blessed with natural fluidity and a very aggressive nature. His ball skills in this draft might be second only to Senequez Golson, but his willingness to tackle and his hitting power is absurd for a 5’9” CB. To reach his full potential, McCain will need to work on eye control and not be baited so easily into throws, but we think he will do just fine competing for our no. 3-4 CB spot.

The Cincinnati Bengals, with the 186[SUP]th[/SUP] overall pick in the GML Draft, select:

    Mike Hull, LB, Penn State

Hull (6-0, 237) is a gritty, instinctive ‘backer who plays with a reckless abandon. Although he’s not overly athletic, he is quick in the box and extremely stout against the run (5[SUP]th[/SUP] among all draft-eligible LBs with a run-stuff percentage of 14%).

Some scouting reports criticize him for not getting off of blocks quickly enough, but we saw the opposite of that when watching some game tape. Short arms? Sure, but fought to get off of blocks and was successful in navigating RB after getting engaged.

At this point, we’re not sure Hull is a starter, but he will provide excellent depth on the inside and should do enough of the little things well to have a long career in the NFL.

With the 187[SUP]th[/SUP] pick in the 2015 GML Draft, the New York Jets select:

John Crockett, RB – North Dakota State

    Height:
6’0” Weight: 217 lbs. Experience: Senior

On offense, our goal since acquiring Peyton Manning has been to maximize the talent around him and ensure that the pressure won’t solely be on his shoulders. Our offensive line is one of the best out there, and after acquiring two solid but not spectacular backs in Pierre Thomas and Robert Turbin, we made our first round pick Todd Gurley. However, we have expressed a desire to not overwork Gurley and to make sure he comes back from his ACL injury at his own pace. We feel it is necessary to add another back to pick up the pace and we believe John Crockett is the perfect guy. A legend at North Dakota State, Crockett is the type of hard-nosed, workhorse back that will fit perfectly as a complementary player. We are excited to see what he can bring to the table.

    STRENGTHS:
High football IQ and A+ personality. Team leader. Played in pro-style offense at ND State. Physical presence. Takes advantage of his size. Decisive in his movements, finds the hole and gets through it. Patient. A downhill, north-south runner. Does not waste any movements. Good feet when making cuts. True lower body explosion. Impressive speed for a back his size. Dual-threat back who can catch it effortlessly. Consistent production and a consistent winner.

    WEAKNESSES:
Upright running style. Will need to lower pads if he wants to reach true potential. Does he have the breakaway gear for the next level? Power to move piles and break tackles not always there. Willing and aggressive pass blocker but lacks technique, footwork. 389 carries in 2014.

    COMPARES TO:
Pierre Thomas, Saints – Although Thomas is now on the Jets, he and Crockett are similar players. Both are prolific in the passing game and have enough speed to get down the field. They are patient runners who make the most out of their carries and receptions and now how to get the ball down the field when it is placed in their confident hands. Having a player who is similar to Pierre Thomas learn from the man himself is perfect.

With the 188[SUP]th[/SUP] pick in the 2015 GML Draft, the New York Jets select:

    Chris Covington, DT – Rice

    Height:
6’3” Weight: 295 lbs. Experience: Junior

Another pure value grab, Covington was someone we valued as a fourth round talent and his talent is too good to pass up at 188. If not for a dislocated kneecap suffered, Covington is a day two, possibly late first round type prospect that is available. We feel we have superior depth along the d-line, especially at DT with Damon Harrison, Tyrunn Walker, and a rejuvenated Jay Ratliff. We like Brent Urban, but we feel Covington has more potential and slightly fewer injury issues.

    STRENGTHS:
Athletic bloodlines. Possesses a high football IQ. Equal effectiveness as either a two-gapper or one-gap penetrator. Collapses the inside pocket for the QB by bullying OGs and OCs. As a change-up, he’ll use a snatch-and-pull to get upfield penetration. His first step lateral quickness challenges OGs off the snap. Possesses a deft up-and-under rip move. Showcases a swim move to expose OGs leaning off the snap and will chase plays down laterally. Consistently commands the double team and he will split them to locate the ball. He seems to have an innate feel for timing when to stop his pass rush and get his hands up to affect the three-step passing game. In the run game, he’ll sink his shoulders into cut-off blocks to control his gap and spin back to find the ball after establishing it. Skill at getting skinny in-between line gaps will show up on special teams.

    WEAKNESSES:
Injured his left knee vs. Texas A&M in 2014 and was forced to leave that game and miss the team’s contest vs. Old Dominion on September 20th. Underwent season-ending knee surgery after dislocating a kneecap against FIU and missed the remainder of the season. Did not participate in the 2015 NFL Combine. Wore a cast on his right thumb in 2013 after suffering an injury to his hand early in the season. Double teams wore on him a bit in 2014. He’ll have to establish a balance of taking a shoulder away because he gives ground when doing so on a consistent basis even when defending the run.

    COMPARES TO:
Dominique Easley, Patriots – We see Covington as a heavier version of Easley. Both were dominating in college (when they played) and had a variety of pass rush moves to wreak havoc. However, both have questionable injury pasts that, if they want to make a game-changing impact in the NFL, needs to be overcome. Covington has the chance to be something special if he can stay healthy in his career.
