One of the biggest remaining mysteries of this Dolphins offseason is whether they can find a cornerback in the draft who’s better than Jamar Taylor (the current front-runner) or Will Davis for the starting job opposite Brent Grimes.

But we can assure you they’re looking very closely at draft options. I'm told they have summoned three potential first-round cornerbacks --- Michigan State’s Trae Waynes, LSU’s Jalen Collins and Wake Forest’s Kevin Johnson --- to meet with Dolphins coaches and executives in Davie.

And from Philbin's comments, he almost called out Taylor and Davis.

"Neither one played any meaningful time their first year. Last year both of them contributed somewhat and both ended up on injured reserve. They should have enough experience. You know the drill. You’ve been around. You’ve been in the system. Coverages haven’t changed a lot. It’s an important year for them.”

Could see them giving Taylor his shot and drafting an eventual replacement for Davis. Rowe at Safety seems more compelling if they're going the route of DB in the first 3 rounds.

I am glad to see that they are looking at CB's. I think CB, LB, and OG are the three major needs on the team. Hopefully at least two of these positions will be filled with the Dolphins first two picks in the draft.

I would not be surprised if we take a cornerback in round 1 and a olineman in rounds 2 and 4 .

I'm still hoping that we get a WR. If we got one of the top CB's or LB's I wouldn't complain, but I feel like getting a true #1 WR is what this team really needs.

CB is a huge need!! Grimes is in undeniable decline and Jamar Taylor has the mental age of a 5th grader. Will Davis shouldn't even make the roster.

At least two CB's need to be taken in this draft.

This is why trading down is absolutely the best draft strategy. In both the 1st and 2nd round if possible.

In theory I want a CB, all depends on the actual prospects. Parker or a pass rusher would make be a good get if theres no CB worth the pick. Trading down is a good idea also.

We need ball hawks back there as Suh and Wake crash in and apply pressure. Gotta capitalize on all the rushed passes. So hope that is our plan.

A little harsh but not entirely off-base.

Grimes did look to be in decline in the back half of 2014. Isn't he literally the oldest corner on an NFL roster?

Will Davis had a great training camp, picking off a lot of passes. But then he fell apart when really called upon. I was told during the season that he played only because Kevin Coyle liked him but that nobody else did, and that it was a real source of acrimony between Coyle and some players (Finnegan probably first among them), as well as even some assistant coaches (Lou Anarumo). At one point, they'd spent all week preparing for Michael Thomas to play in a certain nickel role, and then when it came to game day Coyle decided that it would be Will Davis playing in the game. This caused some pretty extreme consternation and I was told even a shouting match between Anarumo and Coyle, in addition to a shouting match between Finnegan and Coyle, and Finnegan I believe openly calling Davis a "pus-y" on the sidelines.

As for Jamar Taylor, if you follow what he's been putting out on social media and in the press since he was drafted, the term "thin-skinned" is what comes to mind. I guess it's good that he cares, but he's very defensive and not good at keeping his head down and tuning out the noise. He also gets hurt a LOT, little nicks and health issues that have been plaguing him since he came to the team going back to that bad kidney problem of his. And honestly I'm not sure his play on the field has been all that good. He's good when the play is in front of him, which might be what Miami needs since the way to combat Suh/Wake is to get the ball quickly to the edges of the field.

Grimes is definitely on the decline... and we should be thinking that way especially with his size and age, his athleticism won't be sticking around much longer.. this is the time to get a guy for Grimes to take under his wing.. but man... we have so many holes elsewhere it's like I don't even know what should be addressed first..

this is why I think we should just pick up Jennings and forget receiver.. or trade down and get another second round pick..

we can always use a extra draft pick but we seem to waste those picks what we need is a blockbuster draft and focus on defense and use free agency to get a wr .
