I think Randy Gregory would leave me scratching my head. He's an awesome talent, but I don't know where he would play in our defense.
I wouldn't call it a nightmare, but I'm really nervous about Parker and hope we stay clear from him. Shaq is a guy who would be closer to a nightmare.
Gregory or one of the edge rushers might afford us a good opportunity to trade down, however, I think our best shot would be the Panthers trading up for one of the tackles they have identified as a potential day 1 starter on the left side.
Why are so many down on Devante Parker? I see stud WR all over him. Heck I live in the state of Kentucky, I am a UK fan, can't stand U of L but even I see the talent he has and want him.
I see a third round pick who would be a nice fit in a west coast offense like ours. I certainly don't see any potential greatness at the NFL level. If he wasn't all hyped up and was there in the third, if we had a third, then maybe, but I would rather take a flyer on Chris Conley in the third because there just may be true greatness hiding in that brilliant young man.
He looks like a fine 2nd round pick. I haven't seen anything that gets me excited about him being a first. He is a 4.45 guy who looks like a 4.55 guy in the film I have seen.
Probably because he is considered the 3rd best WR prospect in the draft and a lot of us are tired of always being the bride's maid. Why can't we draft the #1 prospect at a position for a change? At #14 we could do that if we wanted to. I wouldn't complain if we did draft Parker. But I'd rather draft Todd Gurley. Just toss him out at WR if we need to on certain downs. Dude has great receiving skills as well as the total package at RB. He is the true definition of a "Freak of Nature".
I think he will turn out to be a mediocre to below average WR in the NFL. I just see far better players the Dolphins can take with the 14th pick in the draft. I would rather see them draft Dorsett in round two than Parker in round one. In fact If they are determined to draft a WR at 14. I like Perriman and Green-Beckham more than Parker.
I agree with Shaq. Seems like he would need an inspirational coach who really believes in him to just let him run wild. Didn't realize there was so much skepticism about Parker. He does seem like a Keenan Allen type and he dropped to the third. I watched Randy Gregory's 40 at the combine and thought Dion Jordan. Arik Armstead just screams square peg to me. I don't think the first round is good for cornerback either. I really wouldn't mind any of the Big DT's in the first. Shelton would be my first choice, but Goldman really intrigues me. Todd Sauerbrum, that is a nightmare...
It is hard for me to have Green-Beckham over Parker. I think it will take 2 to 3 years for Green-Beckham to be a good wide receiver in the NFL. He just doesn't have the route running to be effective in the NFL. Talent only gets you so far in the world of the ridiculously talented.
As much as I think CB and LB are bigger needs than a RB at this time. I totally agree with taking Gurley in round one. He may not be ready right away because he is coming off an ACL injury, but once he is healthy, he will be the type of back this team hasn't seen since Ricky Williams best year with the Dolphins. To me, Gurley is a once a decade type RB and whoever drafts him will end up with the best RB in the league for the next 5-7 years.
I agree but at the same time there has to be someone there that teams want to trade up for. There has to be a Marriota fall, a Scherff fall, a stud WR teams want there, LT etc. A lot of teams Im sure feel the way you and I feel. A lot of fanbases feel the same way. When I watch Parker I see a guy whose game speed isnt matching what his timed speed is. He plays slow because he accelerates slower then his 40 time indicates he should; 10 yard was timed 1.51, 20 yard was 2.61 40 was 4.45. That usually indicates better long speed then short area quickness. He relied heavily on his athletic ability last year which is not exceptional for the position and I dont see that combination working that well enough at this level to justify where his draft stock is. Additionally, I see a body catcher not a hands catcher which affects his ability to catch the ball in stride. He struggles vs press and reading coverages and as a result he tends to use the same moves multiple times to try and beat coverage off the line. Lastly he uses his arms a lot to create separation. He wont get away with that in the NFL. Ive heard people compare him to A.J. Green but I see more of a present day Michael Crabtree (Not the Crabtree that came out).
I am not saying they should draft Green-Beckham. I just happen to like him more than Parker. In fact if I had my choice, they would take Gurley in the first round and Dorsett in round two. I just don't think this will happen because of the more pressing needs on the defensive side of the ball.
its that kind of thinking which has set this franchise back some time now, going for quantity over quality....yeah trade down let the talent at the beginning of this draft slip away, settle for a jared odrick or koa misi instead of an earl thomas
That was a different and a very different set of circumstances and I was dead set against that move. Most people had Earl Thomas mocked to us and that is the guy I had coveted the most in years and actually I still can't think of a player I wanted more since then. Earl Thomas had all the right stuff and IMO that was easy to see. Where did the Dolphins turn for a FS that next year? Was that Clemons with a fifth or something?
Now you're being a bit silly. Gurley is not a pass catcher like Marshall Faulk, he can't legitimately be thrown out at WR regularly
Probably DGB. Not only because of his off-the-field incidents (which, plainly, he may be over), but because I'm not a huge fan of his as a football player. That risk would be better taken after the first round.
Everyone saw the effect Moreno had. With our lack of a big back and pass protection, he just seems like the most logical risk to take at 14. Amari would be ideal, but you would be mortgaging the future big time. Gurley just might be the only player in this draft that could save Philbin's job...Gurley to save our girly coach.
We can go a lot of ways and I'll be ok with it. I'm not sure what my nightmare would be, but this team has a long history of passing up good players to talk lesser ones. If we somehow get Cooper, White of Parker I'll be delighted. I'm apparently much higher on Parker than a lot of you. I really want a bigger WR who can make the intermediate plays on one side, with Stills opposite him and Landry in the slot. I do not care if he's not a burner. My nightmare would be taking some other WR in the first, when either one of those three is there, or if they're all gone, a good player at another position, such as corner or MLB where we need help. I'm scared of all the talk about Perriman, but hoping its all a smokescreen.
Man, I sure have got a lot of laughs from this post. I've sent screen shots of it to pretty much all of my friends. My son even laughed his *** off. EDIT: "With the 56th pick..."
I never saw any of Kiper's Draft Reports with a spiral ring binding. Maybe he had a special edition for Canada, aye?
I agree with this. The only player I would be thrilled to see on a trade up in Leonard Williams. Otherwise, stay put and take the BPA or trade down.
Parker had the 3rd best WR 10 yard split at the combine. White was 1.53. Even Dorsett was 1.54. Heck, Cooper was 1.61
Yes, I think he could. But, it seems like a moot point because I really really do not expect we take him.
