I agree we need one more good OG, but Ryan Tannehill needs to acquire better pocket presence. A lot of those sacks are on him...
I would love Marpet. Hopefully he makes it to our pick in the fourth round, but not sure he will last that long. Good kid though. Be interesting to see how the first 12-15 picks play out in round #2. Might have a chance to trade down a few spots and still get Perryman.
Spent about 30 mins today doing some video research of parker, both good and bad. What I have to say is I think out of all the receivers he has the best hands imho. His size is a great addition to our offense which I love and the kid isn't afraid to fight for the ball. Alot of his routes he battles double coverage and manages to keep his eye on the ball and worry about the hit later.. I think we got a great pick. I was hoping for Kevin White in all honesty, but im loving the Parker pick now more than ever. A great group of hands we now have! Been so used to players who have the drops when it matters. Now we got plenty of playmakers! Spread em wide coach!!! They can't cover them all!! This pick also plays big into Tannehill's perceived lack of deep ball threats. Hes go great YAC performance!!
Wonder if Parker's number will be revealed at the presser? Right now, the only ones technically available would be 11 & 87, though I would imagine the scrubs holding 15, 16, 19, 81, 82, 86 & 89 could just be told that they're giving it up. (I really, really want 19 to be ended )
Yeah, wishful thinking on my part. I just really like the kid, and would love to get him. Maybe we find a way to pick up an early third rounder and snag him if he somehow gets out of the second round.
Respectfully disagree. #1 priority on offense (now) is to fortify that O-line IMHO. Although, a power/change of pace back is also something that needs to be addressed. But, perhaps that is done after the draft, if not later in the draft.
Like this kid alot. Best of luck! Great little piece! great interview video. Humble and hungry kid. http://www.courier-journal.com/story/sports/college/kentucky/2015/05/01/devante-parker-will-miss-louisville-loves-miami/26695179/
Honestly I think Tannehill gets too much blame. Philbin is the coach that Incognito mess happened under. Philbin is also the guy who can't motivate his team to win either of the two games that would get his team into the playoffs. Philbin is the coach who can't tolerate strong personalities and trades away talented players like Vontae Davis or Brandon Marshall or Mike Wallace. Tannehill's numbers have gotten better every season. 4,045 yards, 27 td's, and only 12 ints? Those are pretty good numbers. Oh and he didn't miss a game last season. Tannehill did his part of the job. Could he have done better? Yes, he's not perfect but those numbers are good enough to get you into the playoffs. If we don't make the playoffs this year and Tannehill's numbers are decent it's Philbin who needs to go and should have gone before last season. With Philbin as the coach I fully expect us to go 8-8 this year.
Good point. The OL is def a concern, especially in the AFC East. The reason Id put RB slightly ahead of OG is bc it allows the offense to stay balanced, keeping the O out of obvious passing situations, limiting opponents' chances to get after the QB, and keeping the D off the field and fresh.
Agreed. Managing the pocket is the weakest part of his game right now. If he can improve that he's well on his way to being a top level QB. Obviously the OL needs to get better too but NFL QBs have to deal w pressure regardless of how good their OL is.
This is such garbage. When pressure is getting to the QB 2.5 or less, and it's coming from multiple directions, i.e., up the middle and around both ends, what exactly do you want the QB to do? He can't escape up the middle, and he can't go around the outside. Not to mention, when it happens that fast, he's still going through progressions. IN fact, he's probably barely out of his dropback in some cases. I mean, I get that there were a few sacks that he probably could have scrambled on, or thrown the ball away. However, if someone were watching the games without an agenda, you wouldn't come away from the season thinking, "Man, that Tannehill guy has HORRIBLE pocket presence." You'd come away thinking, "MAN, that OLINE is absolutely horrible in obvious passing downs."
Dan Marino probably ran a 7.0 second 40 yard dash, yet ESPN considers him the 7th most elusive QB in NFL history. Some QBs have it, some don't. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
GL with that one. Lol. Yeah, it's sad when fans of other teams talk to me at work about how impressed they are with our QB and this and that, and we have our own fans who are just so painfully ignorant it burns. At the very least these people are able to acknowledge (pretty f***ing easily) how well he plays behind the O-lines we've put up in front of him, And this is coming from teams with both much better AND worse QB situations than us. I've told at least a dozen of them how much some people swear Tannehill is a big issue and one of the main reasons for struggles we have, no playoffs etc, and atleast 75% of the time I just get an immediate "wat" look as a response. Hell, 2 of them at lunch lol'd in confusion and proceeded to point out modern QBs that have made the playoffs playing worse than Tannehill did (I wonder why that was)... Yeah.... I'd love to see a few peeps in particular on this forum play QB (at any level), behind an equivalently horrid o-line, and be told to work on your 'awareness and pocket management' while breaking franchise records.
Marino would have died behind that line. Let's stop pretending Marino ever had a line even a 1/10th as bad as what Tannehill has endured.
Dan Marino would average 6000 yards and 50 TDs with the rules in today's game. Let's not skew the facts...
WTF are you talking about? I'm not talking about the rules today and neither were you. Dan Marino would have been sacked a lot and probably injured if he had Tannehill's lines.
THAT is a FACT! Not the o-line being straight worst in the nfl for 3 seasons. Not Dans o-lines being no where near as awful. That stat line. Fact.
Curtis Conway was really talking up Parker on Path to the Draft. He thinks Parker is the best WR of the draft. Talks about his ability to run routes, to go up and get it, to play the ball at the high point, to run after catch, his catch radius, his body positioning, etc. He mentions how he got 855yds and 5 TDs in just 7 games last year.
It's just painful to see the same recycled garbage thrown around about Tannehill, by the same people, over and over and over again. I should probably just put those people on ignore, but they do post stuff sometimes that is accurate. Anyway, if you listened to them, you'd think that Tannehill had some sort of adequate line, that actually formed pockets for him to maneuver in. Too bad that wasn't reality. Marino would not have been able to do his shifty pocket moves behind this line. Not that it matters in the least however, since there it's zero reason for anyone to ***** about Tannehill not being as good as one of the greatest to ever play, in one facet of his game. It really shows how ridiculous the complaints are.
Ryan Tannehill is NOT elite. I won't settle until the Dolphins have a true elite QB again. Why should I?
Because you'll be miserable for a very long time. QB's the caliber of Marino are extremely rare. If you consider it "settling" to be happy with and root for one of the best young QBs in the league, maybe you just shouldn't watch football or post on forums. If I said I won't be happy until we have All-Pros at every position, and I *****ed constantly about every player that wasn't an All-Pro, people would take exception with me, and tell me I was being unrealistic. Sure that is an extreme example, but I hope even you can get the point. Maybe just take a beautiful date out to Golden Corral, and forget about the Dolphins for awhile. Or is that too classy a joint?
I have a beautiful girlfriend. Gorgeous actually. And if I want to criticize Ryan Tannehill's game I have every right to. You people are hilarious. ANY time somebody says anything negative about Ryan Tannehill the SAME freakin people jump in to bash all over the poster almost immediately. Take off the homer glasses son. Do I like Ryan Tannehill? YES. Do I think he has flaws in his game? Absolutely. That doesn't make me a bad Dolphins fan. That makes me a realist. Ryan Tannehill has poor pocket presence and has trouble with his touch on deep passes. Those are FACTS. And I'm allowed to criticize him for it. He needs to get better.
Dude, I've seen your thread. Secondly, those are not "facts." His deep ball was poor to Wallace. That is a fact (the reason behind that fact is not simple, though). He had an average/good deep ball to receivers not named a Wallace, also a fact. His offensive line was terrible, also a fact. His offensive line allowed pressure from multiple directions, very quickly, especially in must pass situations. Here's an idea: people stop posting the same false garbage about Tannehill, that has been disproved over and over and over again, and we won't have these same stupid discussions. You say he needs to get better...and he's gotten better every. Single. Season. If continues that, he'll be top five within three next season or two, even with a sh#t line.
Dan Marino was the NFL's Iron man pre-Favre. He started for 10 straight years until the achilles snapped. And he did it in a league that didn't care about QB safety whatsoever. Probably injured? No, I doubt it. I don't think Tannehill is tougher than Marino, and Tannehill has proven to be a tough SOB. As for sacks... - Dan Marino took 20+ sacks only 5 times in his 17 year career. Three of which came after the achillies. - Dan Marino took 10 or less sacks 5 times in his 17 year career. - Dan Marino, who couldn't stand up on his tippy toes, lead the NFL in sack % per dropback (3.5%) in 97, for the final time. - 10/17 seasons Marino was the least sacked QB per drop back. You're either overrating Tannehill's pocket awareness or underrating Marino's. I suspect both. And you're discounting Marino's release, which was always an eye blink away from launching rockets. Our offensive line may suck, but I would bet Marino wouldn't even have taken 30 sacks in 2013 or 2014. I also think there's another issue in your assessment that you're neglecting, which doesn't favor Marino. He hated to be sacked. So much so, he would be willing to throw in ridiculous coverage. Which lead to negative plays worse than sacks, sometimes. He was a double edged sword like that.
It's amazing to see people bashing Dan Marino on a consistent basis. Dan "effing" Marino. Blasphemy! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
This has nothing to do with tough, this has everything to do with his knees and the punishment he would have gotten behind this current line. It wasn't a knock on Marino, so everyone can just calm down. I'm not a heretic.
Jesus.....my point is and was that Marino had a great line. That has never been questioned or disputed. That doesn't take a single thing away from Marino at all. Marino was elite at moving in the pocket, but with Tannehill's horrible lines there isn't always a pocket to move in. Marino's knees would have been punished.
We have precisely the QB for his talents. We did not for Wallace, we do for Parker. It all comes down to catch radius. Parker's is huge. So is Landry's. Wallce's and Hartline's were not.
