Really expected a guard right there. Biggest need at this point. Maybe it was and early round BPA approach. I just dont see a guard in the 4th that can come in and get it done right away. Trade back up?
With all those 5th round picks, definitely trying to get back into the 3rd round, question is, how expensive will it be?
I agree. Truly thought they would reach at Marpet. I cant blame the pick. Obviously they are concentrating on stopping the run this year since we got abused last season.
Was this a case that they didnt like the value of the Guards and LB's so took a DT to strengthen the line making it easier for the Lb's we have?
Probably IMO. Philbin is married to Misi even if he probably isnt playing his best position. Our biggest GLARING need has not been addressed.
Not thrilled with the pick. The team has glaring needs on defense and still needs another guard. We should have traded up to get one of the LBs.
Collins plays with a mean streak that is evident in every game, and could come in and start right away in a power-running game as a guard. Graded at 6.1 this guys still on the board. OT La'el Collins
Im not comfortable with any guard prospect left starting at guard for our team... I think theyre banking a healthy Albert will be enough.
I'm not thrilled with the DT Phillips pick in the second round like that. I hate seeing some of the names we passed on.
Biggest surprise to me and maybe it shouldn't be a surprise is TJ Yeldon being an early second round pick... this guy was DECENT in college, nothing special... slow as Trent Richardson... 4.5 to 4.7 40... Just doesn't make sense to draft a guy like him, he's definitely not the third best running back... But Saban somehow is always able to sell running backs to NFL scouts. If you're a running back you want to be recruited to Alabama cause Saban will guarantee you get drafted.. You could have had TJ Yeldon in the 4th round, maybe even the 5th.. not even overreacting. Glad I'm not a Jaguars fan. Yikes.
Just read an article. Parker's mom says she's happy he didn't get drafted to the Browns because they don't have a quarterback nor a team. lol
Texans got themselves a nice prospect in round 3. Strong followed the same trajectory as Keenan Allen. Someone thought to be a late first, early second, somehow ends up in round 3. TBH, I liked Strong as much as Parker... Obviously hindsight is 20/20 but if we had known he'd be there in round 2... Could of picked him up and used that first one someone else.
That was tough to see, especially after the two other MLB were taken right before him... ****, Randy Gregory in the 2nd would have been a nice pickup too.
Jake Fisher especially. He would have been an instant starter for us at Guard and then could have been kicked out to Tackle in a few years.
Yeah, that was hard to watch. He fell right in our laps, and we trade back...ugh! Not only that, but they let a guy a with an incredible motor go for a guy that I hear isn't motivated to play at a high level on a consistent basis. Makes no sense. Take the guy that loves playing the game, and loves hitting people.
We wasted a pick again. I can't believe this. We passed on a high quality starter from day 1 for a project. SMH
I would of preferred Perryman, no doubt. But I don't think JP is a "project." He's a good player and has first round talent. The concerns are/should be about football character and back injury.
Which is enough of a reason not to draft him. Not in the second round anyway. If it was me, I would've stayed at #47 as soon as the run on LB's started, and drafted Perryman. I think they fell in love with his size and athleticism (for his size), and didn't put nearly enough stock into his football character. I want guys that LOVE to play football. Not ones that have to be motivated to reach their fullest potential.
Phillips is definitely a project, anyone that watched the Sooners know the guy doesnt give it his all all the time. Takes plays off constantly. Oh well, he will be behind Suh anyways. Just could have addressed another position... Anyways, to me I think the Raiders has had the best draft so far. Very exciting pieces for Carr.
I'm all for BPA strategy but imo that applies to the first rd. We have glaring holes so to use the 2nd rd pick on a position of strength is just wrong. As far as the trade goes, it seemed the FO wanted to trade down no matter what. Value-wise we lost out. I have a pet-peeve about nfl trades when some people believe a team receives more than they actually do. We didn't gain 3 picks for our 47th pick. We gained two additional selections in the 5th. Receiving PHI's 52nd is standard. But they settled for compensation two rounds lower (should have been a 3). And what makes this worse is tbaum sent back a pick. Look at it two ways. First, going into day 2 we had 5 draft selections remaining. After the trade we had six. If all they wanted was an extra late pick they should have traded the fourth. We missed out on some good players (Rowe, Perryman, Morse, Darby) at need positions. And secondly, the chart. Yes, some teams don't religiously use the draft value chart like in the past. Some. And as a side note I believe they were referring to mainly the first rd pick values. Anyway our 47th was worth 430 points. PHI's 52nd(380), 145th(33.5) & 156th(30) totaled 443.5 points. Not that big of a difference. You could say it's close to an equal trade with us coming out on top right? Well don't forget that 6 rd pick we sent to them. Pick 191 worth 16 points. The new tally - we gave away 446 points and received 443.5
Hopefully they are able to send two of those fifth round picks to the Eagles for Mathis. I cant think of anything else we can do to fill our glaring hole at guard.
