We need LB, OG and CB, so we take a DT....makes sense if you are Jeff Ireland......

This DT will make your current LBs a lot better, and that in turn makes your CBs better. I like the pick.

Well, so far this seems a lot like last year. We address a near consensus need in the first round and then take a player in the 2nd that the evaluation says is worthy. Last year Jarvis Landry shocked everyone.

Plus, for anyone not aware, DT was going to be a clear need next year when Earl Mitchell's contract ended...and P.S Earl Mitchell isn't that great anyway. ;)

Could be about value. Phillips was rated around the 30's--40's, some even talked about a late 1st round pick. So If they've seen him at 52 I guess they nabbed him while they could, determined to ensure we don't get run over by the Jets, or anyone else, again.

I expected DT all the way. I don't know what everyone is pissing and moaning about. You'd have to be blind to not realize we didn't really have anybody solid to fill in the 3-man rotation.

I agree that with needs at guard, LB, and CB, taking a DT does appear to be a little strange.

If the pick was made because he was the best player on their board at the time, I can live with that. I would rather see them draft the player they feel is the best player, regardless of position, then draft a position of need and end up with an inferior player.

It's a need. Behind Suh... you really dont have much in the way of depth. You need someone there. The athleticism he has for a guy his size, if a guy like Suh can mentor him and get him working hard, there is alot of potential IMO.

That being said, I would have rather seen us go OL or CB probably.

That being said... lol I think it was obvious... once Kendricks went off the board, we lost all faith in the second round. Trade back, get some extra ammo/picks, then take your BPA at a need... and yes... DT can really be considered a need, because like I said... all we really have there was Suh and Mitchell.

Is it a need? I guess. Is this guy the pick with no 3rd?! After reading about him. Hell no.

Lazy. Takes plays off. Can't split double teams. Back surgery in 2013. Total boom or bust. Hate this pick

    Hope I'm proven wrong.

This is what left me scratching my head with this pick.. I thought they were all about highly motivated guys who play every snap the same way from start to finish regardless of the score, as Tannenbaum put it. Sure doesn't sound like Phillips.

Actually good point Suh could easily spend time on sideline. If he tackles Brady there's sure to be a suspension to follow.

Collins plays with a mean streak that is evident in every game, and could come in and start right away in a power-running game as a guard.
Graded at 6.1 this guys still on the board.

All I hear all year is that they need to draft players that "love football". Shows what the media knows about anything, and about me for actually believing it.

    Not feeling the pick either

Pick Analysis: "Phillips has first-round ability all over him. He can dominate at the point of attack. He controls the run game. He reminds me of Terrance Knighton. People question his football character, which is why he's being selected in the second round and not in the first." -- Mike Mayock

That last sentence makes me worried. We don't need players with questionable football character

It wasn't just the media, it came out of Assistant GM Eric Stoke's mouth... then Tannenbaum explained what he meant by that and stated specfically that players who love football show it on tape and play with the same effort if the team is up 38-0 or down 38-0.

Don't think the term boom or bust applies here at all.

He should contribute and his ability and size almost dictate that , will he be consistent? will he elevate his play? will he be more than good at times and other times jag? Those are more the question marks. Feel pretty confident he will be a factor , and for several years , he has the chance and Dolphins believe that obviously.

Whether he realizes his potential or the Dolphin's grade on him is to be seen , but Dion Jordan is a bust , Pat White was a bust ( and on and on ) but I don't see that in this case.

I understand wanting to acquire more picks but the fact that perryman was still there and we lost on him really makes this pick worse. I think Perryman is an all star LB in the making

Worst case scenario? He's a fat sack of crap that requires blockers to move and frees up suh. (See also: nick fairley)

    Which is still quite useful.

    Agree with you SICK.

In so many ways this was such an anti-Hickey pick. All the guys he took last year and Parker were all hard workers and 5/8 were team captains. Phillips is lazy and has an injury history at a position that back injuries have wrecked many careers.

I think DT was a need, but damn Jake Fischer would have looked good in a Dolphins uniform... To make matters worse there is still A LOT of talent at the DT position going into the 4th and 5th round.

I don't like the pick. Not because it is a DT but the player. This guy will be a project and if anyone thinks he is a sure day one starter they are sadly mistaken. He is lazy and out of shape. They said he had trouble in college playing through games and got tired a lot. How will he do that in the NFL in blazing hot Miami?! With so many needs unfilled and better players available the team doesn't have the luxury to take on these boom or bust project players. Perryman and other players were there for the taking. Also if you're going to trade back get something good. Only 2 5th rounders after trading back in the 2nd round?! You couldn't get a 4th out of that? Just don't do the trade. 5th round picks most of the time are out of the league in a couple years. With 4 5th round picks hopefully they can trade up for another pick in the 4th round. IDK I'm scratching my head on this one. Hope he turns out good but with what I see of him so far he is a project boom or bust and has issues with conditioning.

This is what I know, last time we traded down for a dt we lost out on Earl Thomas and just like that time dt wasn't a need. We needed a safety just like we need a mlb now

I agree SICK. I haven't been pleased with our draft at all at this point. But, it seems the more I read about DeVante Parker and Jordan Phillips The more I am liking them. I'm with you though. They better be STUDS...

Yes. In fact, since we signed him, Miami fans have anointed him the next Jesus. He's going to turn chicken **** into chicken salad. Not as good as water to wine, but it'll do. We're the #1 defense in football because we have Suh. The best part about Suh? He's going to do what Tannehill cannot, and play all 11 positions by himself. it's going to be CRAZY.

I love Suh and all, but lets get a grip on reality. We already have two starters in Suh and Mitchell. We have backups with potential. NT are notoriously easier to find than any other position. It's one of the big reason we let Soliai walk, among other reasons.

Philips can play 0, 1, or 3t. At least that's what he claims. The biggest issue with him is how coachable he decides he wants to be.
