because college skill does not equate to pros. ask tim tebow or sam or the plethora of other top college players that didn't make it in the pros, even some heisman winners, gasp.
I'd say he's worth whatever else Miami has left. I understand your thinking, but those other teams have to have an interest in him, too.
Those other teams could all use an OL and have roughly $65k more to sign. Miami's steering clear of trouble completely this draft.
He tested quite well though. His knee(s) is the only thing that should have kept him from being drafted.
Zach Vigil was the Mountain West defensive player of the year as well and finished the year with 156 tackles, second only to Scooby Wright the 3rd, and he wasn't drafted either.
@NealDriscoll: Dolphins will make run at La'El Collins. Have 2 advantages 1-La'El represented by Priority Sports-Tannenbaum connection and 2-no state tax.
I was advocating LC for a number on months. I know as much about his case as you... Hypothetically, what if he's involved in the murder? Then we don't sign him... We waste a pick that would of likely been useless anyway. The world turns and it's not a big deal. This isn't Aaron Hernandez, committing murders while being an active member of his team for numerous seasons. There's no egg on our face. And if he's not involved in the murder, drafting him gives us his rights. A bonafide 1st round pick in the 5th round.
DT Elias McCarthy seems really similar to DT Anthony Johnson, who we signed as a UDFA out of LSU a year ago. Huge kid who was a 5 star recruit, but it didn't click in college for whatever reason. Places I've read say he lacked direction and discipline at UCLA, and was never in good shape. Maybe with some coaching (oh well....) he can develop into something for us. Edit: DE Ray Drew out of UGA seems to be the exact same way. Also a big DE at 6-5, 284. Good practice squad candidates?
http://www.thephinsider.com/2015/5/2/8537425/miami-dolphins-udfa-nfl-draft-signings-live-tracker Is it bad that i like the udfa more than half of our the draft?
I understand that. You said: "second only to Scooby Wright the 3rd, and he wasn't drafted either." I was just saying the reason Scooby was not drafted either was because he was not in this draft.
Well, I was mostly referring to their histories as big recruits coming into college at the DT position who didn't pan out at their schools the way most people thought that they would. I like the idea of bringing that kind of player in as a UDFA and seeing what we can squeeze out of the physical ability. Heck, Johnson had been predicted as a first round talent before his final season in college.
Barry Jackson @flasportsbuzz 2h2 hours ago N. Illinois 6-8 TE Tim Semisch, who impressed at Fins tryout & is red zone threat, is being signed to Fins contract, agent Brandon Smart said. According to his agent anyways. 6'8" and has some athleticism, but didn't register many targets or reception in college. Not very fast on the 40 (4.98), but I like how quickly he gets his hips turned and starts heading downfield after the catch. Not to mention his potential red zone capabilities with that frame. Interesting add since our TE depth is not that strong. Some video... a lot of blocking, since he didn't have a lot of catches.
