I mean, they're just nominations. And that award is based on character through interaction...so the people who I was more engaged with and had good experiences with during one-on-one trade talks will obviously stand out.

It was actually really close. I didn't not vote for you guys because of the injuries though. So I'm still in the clear.

Appreciate the noms but I'm curious if the 2 voters for Cowboys in "one and done" want to give me insight into that one. Is that a nod for "Romo's f'n old?" lol. Outside a few key vets I thought I have a pretty young team.

My inclusion was almost exclusively because of Romo. That holds true for all 3 of my nominations (though some are older than others in other key players of the overall team; like the Pats for example). None had what I would consider a credible back-up/developmental QB, and the existing QB was obviously an important one based on the % of cap space they were taking up. I see the teams I listed struggling to be true contenders in the next 1-3 seasons once those QBs retire (for various reasons; including, but not limited to, not being bad enough to acquire a top young qb in the draft). I honestly had a hard time even selecting the three I did, so I had to settle on my reasoning, and I definitely wanted to recognize that they are absolutely contenders right at this moment IMO.

There needs to be a "best write ups" category

VO killed them and i thought Schisno's draft ones were pretty darn entertaining too.

from that angle, I think this was the best year ever in terms of writeups and the amount of work put in. Too many great ones to single out.

I gotta say, I'm pretty disappointed I am not up for vote in a single category. One of only 4 qualifying GMs to achieve such a feat.

Pittsburgh had the #7 scoring offense in the league last year, and #2 in yards. I lost no one of value in the skill positions (and my #3 and #2 WRs are entering their 2nd and 3rd years respectively, so could easily get better despite strong seasons last year), but added a backup TE with potential to contribute, a backup HB (who is talented enough to be a #1, health is his issue), and only added to my OL (albeit not with an immediate starter) which was one of the best in the NFL last season.

Then in FA, I only am relying on 2 of my signings to start, all the others are depth. Getting two decent starters for $12M total seems like pretty good value in this league (especially when one is coming off 3 straight pro bowls, and if I had a camp, there is no guarantee the other would start anyways). I had thought the Dolphins have clearly shown in the past that you don't win FA by spending the most money.

I focused primarily on my defense which was the reason the Steelers didn't win more games last year, and thought I did a pretty good job of building on what I had (I didn't think I had the best of any defensive category).

I know this will all sound like sour grapes, but I don't know that I'm going to bother participating in the future.

I guess one of the changes I would like to see in the future is a seperate award for position strength relative to what was had to what has been acquired. Just an example is if we had a "Best Wr" award and The Giants simply kept Beckham and Cruz they are inheriting that trait and while you must commend them for not blowing it up what about the guy who goes out and turns an average unit into a strong one??

Its an inexact science because you shouldnt penalize a team like Dallas for keeping those beasts on the OL intact, but then again if a GM turns an OL from bottom 5 into the league into top 5 in the league...who did a better job? There is no wrong answer just a slight flaw in the system.

I feel your pain in a different way. I was nominated in half a dozen categories for things but Im only included in the voting for one thing. Not a fan of this voting system so I wont be bothering. In the words of Vince Lombardi "What the hell's goin on out here?"

:console: I did nominate you for top young team (future powerhouse)... I thought what you did with the defensive side of the ball, bringing in young talent to replace the aging defense shouldn't have gone unnoticed.

While we're on the subject of feeling sorry for ourselves, I really thought I'd get more noms in the Best in Trades category (I believe just one nomination). Especially after how many guys came out against the Khalil Mack acquisition. I thought my top 3 trades (Jordy/Dez/Mack) were my greatest collaborative work since I've been doing this. I don't think I would have won the category though... won't say who will but it's pretty obvious.

In speaking for myself because I'm self absorbed... it's a shame that a quarterback's importance in the voting categories is completely ignored. There should be a best offense category.

I"ve already sent a PM to GIK apologizing for the tone this thread is taking. I'm not bagging on him... just thinking out loud. We just had the best year here and we should all be thankful to him and everyone else that helped out. It was a tremendous year.

But... :shifty: if I were to make another suggestion... suggestion box time... it would be to make nominations anonymous. Final voting should still be public record although it shouldn't be disclosed until all the votes are counted.

fun little exercise... look at your nominations then compare them to the final voting list... 21/30 of my nominations are on the list... 70%... not sure what to make of it. Someone should do this for all the teams.. schisnooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo?

    "Aaron Rodgers, $18,250,000 ($29,450,000)
    Matt Flynn, $510,000 ($0)
    Connor Halliday, $446,474 ($446,474)

Well, this was a no brainer. A-Rod is, in my view, the top quarterback in the game today. Continue to build around the best. Brought back Matt Flynn to be the top backup. Yes, A-Rod will get hurt every once in a while due to his play style. So it is important to have a quality backup. Matt has been the only other guy in the last several years capable of playing in this Packer offense. Drafted Connor Halliday in the 7[SUP]th[/SUP] round to be a guy we can develop. I think he fits the Packer offense perfectly. Curious how he does in Washington as a UDFA. I reckon he could be starting for that franchise before the season is over."

whoops. Though no biggie with A-rod around. Still a little off with that prediction though

well... that's akin to losing a guy to injury for the season... nobody can predict that (or that a player would retire). 49ers should have drafted him here though... to continue that trend... would've been epic. A bit stunned he hung it up, but that's today's NFL.

There are a few of us who feel that a team should start with their strengths and upgrade their weaknesses while mostly keeping things intact, but it has always seemed that the league voting largely operates on volume and splash and complete roster turnover. I think you did a good job augmenting a pretty good team already while maintaining good continuity.

The reason why it went so smoothly is because we had a lot of veteran GMs who have consistently shown they will go the full 9 yards. It wasn't anything special that I did.

I wish the voting process was better for everyone. I tried to condense a lot of things because it made it easier on me. Having to tally 20 awards takes a lot of time.

We had a lot of nominations this year compared to the past. So there was a few situations where someone had four votes and got in the final five but there were three or four teams that had one less vote so they didn't get in. Normally we don't have this good of a turnout for nominations otherwise I would've just had teams nominate one per category.

People don't have to apologize for speaking their mind, I've grown quite used to it by now.

Am I missing something in the way the nominations counted? I noticed I got more nominations in 2 categories over folks who did make it to the final vote.

I'm just going to delete the voting thread and make a new one tomorrow. I have bachelor party stuff going on all day so I don't really have the time to fix it today. I'll adjust timeline accordingly. I doubt anyone's in that big of a rush to vote anyways.

Curious why the Cincinnati Bengals GMs did not get nominated for Man/Woman (insert joke here) of the year? We were nominated, I believe, on 5 of 17 ballots. If my math is correct, only one other team that made it on the ballot had that many nominations. If I'm off, I apologize...just curious.

EDIT: Just saw GIK's post above. Understood, no rush, just wanted that to be reviewed.

See... Joffrey ruled with an iron fist... he was vindictive... a psychopath... easily hated, yet respected... Tommen rules completely different, understanding, caring, or is he? Is he oblivious to his surroundings? just wants to have sex with his queen. A figure head. I'm not sure I want to be either. :shifty:
